Hello and welcome to my review. This game isn't that bad but the interaction and alot of the controls of this game are alittle too hard for most players. (I had no problem but many of my friends were using words to describe it that isn't worth mentioning.) The storyline is alittle dry with no real mission laid out and only through dry humor can you advance in some points. It would have been nicer to have a list of choices-maybe in the next version. It was too easy to beat and did it in less than 2hrs. So if your bored and renting a game-this is for you. If your a hard-core RPG'r......then you want something more to sink your teeth into. Just my opinion. :-) Happy Holidays
Very fun and entertaining game, but....

I had a blast playing this game, but there were several points where I got stuck in the clipping and had to reset the game and as luck would have it, I was far from the save books.
Other than these issues, it was a very fun game.
I wasn't able to finish it though because of the clipping snags.

I really liked this game here are my stars (out of ten)
Graphics 8.0 Good but nothing special
Plot 9.5 Really well written but sometimes predictable
Controls 9.0 Very good and easy to get used to
Voices 10 Cary Elwes and Tony Jay do a great job
Camera 5.8 not the best its at a weird angle but you get used to it
The Plot is about a Bard named Bard who all he cares bout is as the tag line goes coin and cleavage. I won't go into the plot. The Snakry/Nice talking system is good but it has some problems. Its just like in most RPG games where its just asking you which way to go. But be careful with it. If you say the wrong thing you can skip whole parts and then leave the game unfinished. The replay value of the game is not the best. Exept for retrying the ending and seeing what happens if you choose something else. The combat is preatty good it is "real-time" combat so its more action but harder. The best thing about the game is your dog, (just be nice to it.) ;)
ESRB rated this game T for Violence, Blood, Suggestive Themes,Language, and Use of Alcohol. The Violence is not too bad about the same as most RPG games (even some E10 games Legend of Kay for one). The Blood is not that gory. Just semi clear red stuff that appears on the ground under dead enimes. Suggestive themes is just some "crude humour" the worst is just a mention of the Bard sleeping with a bar maid. Not in detail and just in passing. The Use of Alchol is just bars and the song Beer, Beer, Beer. The Language is just the word d*mn and *ss oh and if you are British the word bloody.
Over all a really good game that just didn't get enough publicity.
Great gameplay & story line

Probably one of the best game story lines I have ever seen or played. The Bard is a major smart ass and is your typical macho male, all he thinks about is sex and beer. Game play is sort of challenging at parts, but not too hard and confusing. It won't leave you frustrated and turning off the console. The visual aspects of the game could have been better, but sound quality is great. You got to love the little green guys and their random songs and the undead break dancing was genius. The freaking skeleton tells the zombies that they "just go served". Hilarious. Great game and will look forward to something similar to this. Only downfall is that it is one player. We need more two player games like this and Champions of Norath.
probably the best game ive bought in awhile...

wow, is all i have to say about this game, really... It was fun from start to finish, a complete blast.
STORY - The storyline is pretty good. The Bard is just some guy that can conjure up animals, people, and elementals. You start off as him conjuring a rat to scare a bar owner chic and make it go away for a meal... and of course you hit on her, blah blah... its hilarious... then you get into the missions and you (along with all the corpses you run into during the game!) have been labeled as "the chosen one". What have you been chosen for? you've been chosen to free the princess... Along the way you run into all sorts of enemies and allies... The best part are these little trowl's that sing and dance like oompa-loompas! HILARIOUS!!! Eventually, you'll make it to the princess and have THREE endings to choose from (either choose to save her, leave her, or side with the guy imprisoning her).
CHARACTERS - Of course you only play as the Bard, but you can conjure up 16 different beings. All of these are useful (you have a healer, a trap finder, elementals, an archer, a bodyguard etc etc). and on top of that you can call up the main bosses that you have defeated along the way using crystals that you pick up... A very original concept, if you ask me!
WEAPONS - There are alot of weapons in the game, you can, like always, pick them up or buy them. This game has a slight Diablo feel to it when it comes to the weapons, because you have to upgrade to use certain weapons such as the Flails or 2-handed swords.
HILARITY - This game incorporates the great concept of choosing what you say... normally that would be a so-so thing, but in this one you can either be A) nice to people, or B) rude and sarcastic! (of course i prefer the second, but i would watch using it, because it will get you in alot of trouble OR make you have to pay your way 10fold!). Everything the Bard says is hilarious. He is just SO politically incorrect you wont stop laughing until he stops talking!
GAMEPLAY/CONTROLS - the controls and gameplay of this game are great... the only thing that confused me was WHY is there a jump button when you NEVER use it?! The coolest thing is that the blocking is more realistic than most games, you have to block RIGHT when the enemy attacks! Which is alot better than most games where you just hold the block button down and nobody can hurt you... thats weak.
COMPLAINTS - um... yeah, i dont think i have any! i would have liked the game to have been a little bit longer, but thats expected from me, i say that about every game, so disregard! so really, i have no complaints at all!
CONCLUSION - this game is probably a must get for any gamer. i dont really like games like this, but this one is definetly one of my favorite games EVER now. get it and have yourself a good laugh! (also, if you DO buy it, when you get to the end and can choose from the different endings, save first and when you beat it DONT save over your data or else you wont be able to go back and see the other endings... I personally suggest choosing "me" first from the endings, happy gaming!)

I have been playing Bard's Tale for a few hours now, and i find it to be a pretty decent, if not great, game to play. Of course, being a fan of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I love that kind of humor in my games. It definetely adds some spice to the game. It's worth buying.

This was a fun game. Game play was not necessarily the best, but the comic relief made the game very enjoyable. The price was well worth the game play value.
Humor makes this otherwise average game top-notch.

It's an action RPG. So far as game play or graphics, there's nothing special about this nowadays. It would deserve a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 at the most. But the humor! The writers know ALL the RPG cliches* and mock them without mercy. On levels that might take 30-45 minutes to finish I'll play for 3 or 4 hours just to try all the different story lines and catch all the jokes. The humor pushes it to an easy 5 star rating.
If you have a sense of humor and enjoy RPGs you need to play this!
*for example, the obligatory Lava Level is NAMED the obligatory Lava Level.
Great game

A Bards tale, is a great game. Not for Kids through. I bought this game for my husband for his birthday with the game guide (a must have) and he was on cloud nine. The Bard is a snarky fellow that is thrown into a situation and he copes with it to the best of his ablities. The dialog is halrious, and he says things that you wish Link could say. He's a bit on the sour side, and it's great. It's a one person game, not multiplayer, set in a fansty type world.
