Move over Sim City...here's Moon Tycoon!

I've been waiting for a Space Sim game for years. The wait is over and its been worth it. Let me just point out the aspects that make it so worthy.

Gorgeous graphics. It really looks like you're on the Moon, flying around a space colony! You really have to play the game to understand. COMPLETE 3D camera freedom, beautiful Earth-rises, and just wait until night time and your colony night-lights turn on! I've spent hours just looking at the screen, drooling at the sights.

Balance of gameplay. The game itself plays perfectly for a kid, or the expert gamer, providing lots of layers of depth to suit your needs. Build homes, communications and utilitie as the foundation, then grow into a mining, production, research or tourist colony. The designers of this game have really taken a fresh approach to the Sim theme, taking it in whole new directions.

Cotnrols. The designers of this game have made a truly marvelous control system. You pick up the game in seconds, and the camera control fits like a glove. Other companies should take a look at the contol system here for pointers.

Concept and Story. Usually a major flaw in most games, the story behind Moon Tycoon is both dramatic and very possible in the near future. Its nice to see that some game designers are actually putting some substance in a game. Plus, the script has loads of humor and more references to sci-fi movies than you can imagine.

Lots more goodies. Two seperate soundtracks: either ambient or techno really let you immerse yourself into the game, 3D sound effects, and the coolest disasters ever in a game(you can bombard your colony with the "Armageddon" asteroid if you want!)

And finally...the price! I'm simply amazed by the 19.99 price tag. This game could easily go for 39.99 and still sell strong.
Probably the best value you can get for a game.

I Highly Recommend!!!!

A 15-year-old Moon Tycoon

I like the premise of this game--build a colony on the moon or an asteroid and make it thrive--and the grapics are, for the most part, great. My main problem is getting enough money to buy all this expensive stuff. My moral and attraction are almost always in the minus numbers, but I like playing the game. (I never get any good Special Requests, either, but once Yoda visited my sister's colony.) I wish I could actually go inside and walk around, and sometimes there's nothing to do while you wait for your money to build up (in my case, until one of the advisors says, "Warehouse storage is at full capacity. You must sell some inventory, or build more storage," and then I sell off 600 tons or so of uranium, helium 3, and electronics). Sometimes graphics can get a little choppy, but it's not bad.

I've had a little trouble with the campaigns, though. Campaign 1 was, for the most part, really, really easy. I got through "Outbreak" in Campaign 2 okay but now I'm stuck in "Tyranny." Maybe I'll get through it eventually, though.

Bottom line: if you like sim games, or if you like outer space, get Moon Tycoon.

very nice sim game!

Moon Tycoon looked like an awesome game when I carefully examined the box. I bought it and it is cool! I do admit the fully 3D interface is tricky to get used to esp. after games like Simcity and Roller Coaster Tycoon. But with a little time I liked it. The graphics are really good with a highly textured lunar surface and fairly well rendered buildings. The map is quite big allowing for a large colony with plenty of room for expansion. You first need to build a control center then "inflatable homes" for your colonists. You also construct oxygen plants and power production plants. Everything is connected via either above, or below ground tunnels. As you progress thru the game more buildings become available due to "research", a common feature of games such as Starcraft and Roller Coaster Tycoon. You make money thru mining and exporting as well as tourists. You can trade goods with Earth or aliens (yes aliens). The game takes place in 2021 and Earth is in crisis as it runs out of natural resources. The game is refreshingly original and I recommend it to any sim fan! Check it out!

The Best Sim Game I've Ever Played!

I'm not kidding, this is the best sim game I've ever played and to top it off it takes place in space!

The 3D graphics are awesome. This is the first time I've ever been able to move around my city in full 3D! Not only are the 3D graphics great, but the gameplay lives up to all the hype. It's a great challenge, and very addictive...

Take my advice, get this game NOW!!! You won't regret it!

Could be better

There are a lot of things to enjoy in this game, such as the great 3D graphics which make you feel that you are really on the moon. My biggest gripe is that it is too simple. Once you've played it once or twice it gets boring. There are only a few types of buildings, and your only option is to keep building the same ones over and over again. Adding additional, more advanced buildings would help the game immensely. I would also like to see the colony doing more changing itself, dependent on the kinds of choices the gamer makes. Overall, it is a fun game, but only for a little while. Except in terms of graphics, it really can't compete with games like Roller Coaster Tycoon and Railroad Tycoon.

This is my favorite game. Here is what I like about it:
-Create the first colony ever on the moon, OR an asteroid
-Choose the amount of money you want for your construction
-build hotels, condos, or small residential houses
-build shopping malls, research centers, warehouses, golf courses, amusement parks, aquariums, and MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE!!!!!
-hire mining probes to collect resources and burn the resources for money
-discover extra terrestrial life by finding alien artifacts, and aliens themselves!!
-create a city on the moon, and a colony!!
-instead of streets, you use metal tubes to walk through
These are the things I don't like about it:
-Screen is EXTREMELY dark, and is difficult to see what is going on
- even if system requirements are met or beaten, screen is choppy, or runs in frames,or is split or chopped up
-game is rated "E", but even adults have trouble with the financial stuff, and morale.
-helpers bug you with facts that don't have anything to do with the game, such as,"the moon's surface is 40% oxygen trapped inside the rocks."Getting back to the thing I said about the system requirements,my best friend has a PENTIUM 4 PROCESSOR,1.7 GHz,512MB RAM,A 128 MB AGP VIDEO CARD,AND WINDOWS ME, and the game runs horrible when lots of stuff is built.
But, all in all it is a great game, and I would reccomend it to anyone.Have Fun!

Very Disappointed

I was not happy with this game. I realized that the only thing you can do in this game is build. You have to continually build things. There's nothing more to it. You can't sit back and watch your colony like you would watch your mall in Mall Tycoon, becauseyou can't even see the people. The graphics are horrible and honestly I wouldn't consider this a good buy at all. If you're looking to buy this for someone as a gift, don't.

fun BUT

My grandson (6) and I love the Tycoon games, however, leveling out the ground on this one is REALLY tedious since you have to do 1 block at a time.
We found a trainer to keep our money up and everything else is not only doable but fun if you like to build.
Justin really enjoys the Zoo Tycoon series, we have all 3 and at 6 years old he told his nana he wants to be a anthropologist when he grows up. Now he's excited about this one and who knows??? He may want to be a space colonist when he grows up :-)

This game is sweet!!

I you like Sim-strategy games you'll love Moon Tycoon. Once you start playing you get caught in a whirlwind of 3-d action! "Out of this world" sound effects and more than 60 fully 3-d buildings at your fingertips. Sure it is a little slow but who cares when there's 16 diasters, night and day cicles,30 missions and so much MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be Warned-This is NOT like Roller Coaster Tycoon

My twin 7 year old boys love Roller Coaster Tycoon. I was thrilled to see Moon Tycoon - it looked great! We just put it on last night and it was a big disappointment. Its very dark and hard to see what you've built. Its complicated for little kids (and their dad). We lost interest quickly. Its rated E so I thought it was geared to the younger set. It is not.
