Pretty good

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4
Date: December 23, 2000

I've had the game for about half an hour, and I can already tell this is going to be one of my favourites. How to describe it... imagine crossing Dungeon Keeper and Starcraft, then giving it a 3d interface that shames most other games. The graphics are wonderful, and they even look good on my now outdated Voodoo 2. I can't wait until I get my christmas bonus and can see what they look like with a Geforce Ultra. The storyline is quite imaginitive, the characters are funny (though I didn't know Stratos was Tim Curry at first), the sound is great. The gameplay takes a little work to get into the flow of, but the tutorials really help. My only problem so far is that the user interface leaves a bit to be desired. Spellcasting is ok, but not very speedy (I'm sure I haven't found the quick keys yet), and it's often hard to select your minions, but other than that, this game gets my full recommendation.

Shiny is the one to go with

I usually make an effort to buy games Shiny is involved with, and Sacrifice, like their others, was no let-down. Shiny puts their all into producing terrific graphics for each of their games, but are always certain to make sure gameplay is unique and engaging, as well as featuring unique stories and characters.

Sacrifice is all of this, and perhaps a bit more. Unfortunately, for those who aren't willing to tinker with their machine's settings or expect a one-shot, out-of-the-box playable game Sacrifice could, depending on your system, give you a few headaches. Don't worry too much if your machine is slow: just adjust graphics options to make things a bit speedier. The problem will come in depending on what kind of system setup you have. Check with Interplay's website about whether your card has been tested with Sacrifice to make sure things will work OK, and if they won't what you have to do to fix them. Giving gamers more for their money is something Shiny (and Interplay, for that matter) are very good at doing, but this time they seem to have sacrificed (sorry) a bit in the way of compatibility. Future patches will hopefully provide remedies.

If you want a truely entertaining, not to mention challenging, experience, Sacrifice will be a game you can bet will sap you of valuable time and energy, but not leave you dissatisfied.

Breathtaking and Brilliant in Every Way

Sacrifice is a real-time strategy game with expanded capabilities. Fully 3D environments, with some of the most incredible graphics of it's time make up only a small portion of it's impressive arsenal. This game successfully bridges the gap between strategy and action gaming.

MyStats:

.A complex, dinamic story line executed marvelously in all elements: voice acting, plot twists, and an incredibly flexible course of action throughout gameplay which affects your decisions...forcing you to make hard choices which in turn result in different rewards. The dialogue is incredibly written.

.The music is brilliant. In fact I'd almost go so far as to say this is the best soundtrack for game and film alike. It's not like me to say this lightly either. I'm always severely aware of the music in any media. Sacrifice surpasses all else with it's beautifully constructed symphonic orchestral soundrack, worthy of the highest praise. Rendered smoothly, and meticulously complex in design, Incredibly intense battle sequences complemented by surreal soundscapes for the quiet moments. I found myself getting lost in the music and completely conformed to it's will.

.The gameplay is equally enthralling. Controlling your armies becomes second nature...and I, personally, had no trouble learning how to guide them, as so many other reviews will say. I found the design very straightforward and easy to get the hang of.
Over the course of the game, your wizard becomes more and more powerful, according to the arts of your chosing. You may serve one of five gods. Ultimately you can only please one, so chose wisely. By pleasing a specific god you gain the knowledge he/she is willing to pass to you at the level you'r currently at. As you may have guessed, this allows for a completely different game each time you play it, as you may serve the god of slaughter at one time, or the goddess of life another, or any of the gods inbetween.
The game is beautifully designed with magnificent concepts...rendered to perfection. Astounding use of strategy and action/adventure melded into one game. Did I mention it's fun as hell?
The game was clearly influenced by Dante's Inferno...which is a great work of the horror of imagination. But as to where Dante's vision of pergatory and paradise recede in multitude and thus in value, Sacrifice does not. The game is beautiful in it's ethereal realms.

.The graphics and imagery are astounding. If you have a high end system this game is a god send....if you still stick to old ways, the game is still playable and smooth. Many have critisized the game for having such high demands on system resources. But these setting were meant to keep the game from being outdated. And here we are in the future of this game, and I doubt as many people would dare critisize the need for 800mhz and 128RAM now. So be silent you wraiths! begone. This game is worthy of the highest praise available.

All in all, there are a million reasons this game is great and no reasons to state otherwise. The imagery and concepts are very well thought out and expertelly executed. The magnificent music, powerful gameplay, stunning conclusions, immense choices all add up to the best game of 2000, along with "Giants: Citizen Kabuto" which I aslo highly recommend. This game is fresh and innovative, brilliantly new and mastered into perfection.

Its a bit of everything

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 5 / 13

This game borrows characteristics from several gaming genres and combines it into a single game. It borrows the action and quick reflexes needed from a FPS game. It takes its resource managmement and creature control from RTS games, and it uses the 3D person perspective as seen in the Tomb Raider series.

This game will appeal to any gamer that likes any of those game types. The graphics are outstanding and so is the gameplay. You can play this thing on the net with little to NO lag! Its fantastic

Strategy at its best!

This game is without a doubt the most original and beautiful game i have ever owned. If you like strategy games, that don't take 2 and 3 hours to play, this is the game for you. Mulitplay is also terrific. Very fast paced and action packed, you better be able to think on your feet. You have to buy this game! I haven't put it down since i bought it! This is an instant classic for sure.

All glitter, no gold

At first this game is jawdropping. Beautiful graphics, a fast engine, original ideas and a unique premise. After playing through a few games, however, one quickly comes to realize that every session is essentially the same. There is little variation from mission to mission in the actual gameplay and it rapidly becomes a very repetitive experience.

Why didn't this game sell better?

In short, this is one of my all time favorite games (and I play A LOT of games). It combines the action aspects of a 3rd person shooter/adverturing game such as Diablo I/II, and excellently combines it with the strategy of games such as Starcraft or Age of Empires. There are many different ways you can beat the game, making it VERY replayable, I myself have beaten it about 6 times. In addition, it's halarious, has some of the coolest most unique character's I've ever seen, and has a great in-depth story. This is a great game, and every review I've read on it gives it a very high score. This makes me wonder why it never sold better, but I may die not knowing.

Way Overrated

This game is way overrated. It gets boring in a hurry in single and multi play. The community is ugly and customer support is just short of arrogant fascism.

Prepare to sacrifice much of your time....

This is an absolutely fantastic game! It has revolutionized the real-time strategy genre for the following reasons: 1. you are represented by an avatar, who wields powerful spells, allowing you to directly influence the battle 2. the units are unique from one another, both visually and functionally 3. the graphics are excellent 4. the dialouge features wit, and the storyline was made with much thought 5. an impressive multi-player game Obviously, much time has gone into the creation of this product. The single reason why I haven't given sacrifice 5 stars is that the requirements exceed the current average: games shouldn't be created for the meager few, but for the majority. And this game should be accessed by the majority!

BUGS! They kill this game!

This title has a ton of potential, but the fact that it's loaded with bugs and took me over a week just to figure out how to get the dang thing to run (hit ESC while the story is being told) without it locking up. I like the interface and the graphics are great, but it's about time software companies start putting out a quality product. If you like downloading patches and reading tech support bulliten boards, buy this game. Otherwise, wait for the next Blizzard title.
