I purchased this game for $4.99 and I would have to say that I really got my moneys worth in annoyance and utter frustration. I have installed the game twice and have the newest patches installed as well. On both occassions the game will tease me with 20-30 hours of game time and then crash when I save. THIS CRASH WILL CORRUPT ALL SAVE FILES AND YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO START FROM SCRATCH OR UNINSTALL!!! The only positive I can say about this game is that I was somewhat happy when I snapped the disk in two. Don't waste your time or money on this garbage.

I can't believe I actually apent money on this game. It is the WORST game I have ever bought for myself and that's bad. I would rather play ... I try to think of someone I can sluff it off to, but no one is around that I would like to put through that torture.
First of all, the interface is utterly too much. I mean the only thing is your hit points in one corner and a map/quest button in the other. Experience is never equal to what it should be. I am convinced you only level up after completing tasks. While trying to use the interface, you will run out of time trying to cast a spell, wasting your time as your party is killed, the enemies you face at 1st level is too much at one point. I mean they actually make you fight a wraith when your party might have one magical weapon. I mean come on, what good is that? There is no wizard, only a sorcerer class. I'm just totally disgusted by this game.
Secondly it does crash on me. Every time I try to leave after my party has been wiped out over and over, it will freeze up making me have to hard restart my computer which makes me very angry. DON'T BUY THIS GAME... I know I shouldn't, but Baldur's Gate is what I thought it was gonna be like. It turns out that it is worse ...
Worst Game I Have Ever Bought

I am a huge CRPG fan, particularly the Baldur's Gate/Planescape/Icewind Dale line of games, but including others such as Return to Krondor, King's Quest, Quest for Glory, etc. I was looking forward to PoR with great enthusiasm. Boy, what a disappointment. I would give it ZERO stars if the Amazon interface would allow it.
The plot is terrible, undeveloped and difficult to discern. The maps are unnecessarily difficult to navigate. Party movement is tedious and cumbersome. Combat is boring, slow and predictable, and the spell/magic item casting interface is incredibly difficult to use effectively.
This is the only computer game I have ever bought that I didn't finish. Truly awful. Please, don't waste your money.

Boring, boring, boring. The graphics are very pretty, but how many times can watch the same monsters doing the same thing(walking towards you). When you encounter a large group of monsters, all you get to do is watch the same animation over and over and over, then it's your turn for a second, then the brutal cycle begins again. Some people have appreciated this games translation of the pen and paper game, I am not one of those people. In the pen and paper game, I never remember having to sit through so many almost meaningless moves. Any DM with a brain makes the creatures moves that don't involve an attack simultaeously or at least you don't have to wait and watch the same tired animation. Being an impatient RPGer, I like to cheat my through a couple of times to see what all a game has to offer. This got boring fast. Not many interesting items to find even though the monsters and rewards are tailored to the ability of your characters. I couldn't stay awake long enough to get through with high-level characters. Trying to stay within the rules was even worse. The non-linear layout allows you to explore areas in the order you want, but this gets low-level chars into trouble fast. How are you supposed to know which 'dungeon' to go to first so you party can live long enough to see level 2? Too often you start a supposedly easy dungeon, get to the middle of the first floor, and find a monster powerful enough to squash your party like bugs. I don't mind a challenge in an RPG, but dam, how about a chance to get going? Want an RPG with a story, decent graphics, interesting NPCs, and a chance to able to gain levels? Buy something with 'Baldur's Gate' in the title.
Ick...

Many hours of my life have been wasted playing this poor excuse of a game...boring, boring, boring. But I finally finished, without cheats, and solved every subquest in the game. And you know what, I'm left with the feeling I just killed a Dracolich with mediocre characters using absolutely insane weapons and armor...huge demon sword with +5 hit and triple damage on a level 8 character. PLEASE!! THAT'S SO STUPID!! I still can't believe I found some +3 warhammer with a level 1 character. This game is insanely boring and just an attempt to have a chance at killing a Dracolich, a monster that in any normal D&D situation would be next to impossible to kill.
Very very bad game.

First off, overlooking the fact that the game shipped with a bug that will only allow it to be installed to your c: no matter what you tell it to do. Nevermind that it's actually completely destroyed peoples operating systems. Put all that aside and you have a dull, uninspired romp through a HUGE dull and repetitive dungeon with characters you can't even customize. If your a D&D fan STEER CLEAR of this game as you will hate it. If your a diablo fan stear clear as this game is NOT like diablo. It's very VERY slow paced and limited.

After the anticipation I felt for this game, all I can feel now is bewilderment. How could this game have been released? I have played for about four hours and have given up. The gameplay is horrible. It is slow, the cursor movement is choppy and at first level my sorcerer has no spells. I am unfamiliar with the 3rd edition rules of D&D, but I always thought a sorcerer would get at least one spell so it must be a game flaw. I have not found one single quality in this game that would make it remotely fun to play.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME. You will be better off playing Baldur's gate, BG2 or Icewind dale again. If you are a fan of these games, as I am, you will be sorely disappointed with Pool of Radiance.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

First of all lets talk about bugs. I have played the game for about 20 hours now and have not had a single technical problem.
How does the game play. Well, it isn't BG or Diablo, and thank goodness for that. I hated both of those games. Diablo was simply a frenetic clickfest requiring absolutely no thought at all. BG was a little better with the pseudo real time, but things were still to hectic for my liking. Combat in Pool of Radiance is turn based and I am in heaven. I can actually see what each of my characters is doing and plan what they will do next round. It is more of a thinking man's game, so I guess that is why most of the whinners don't like it.
The dungeons are simply vast. I have yet to complete the first level of the first dungeon, and my most powerful character is only up to third level, so it will keep you busy for sometime to come. I suppose that is another strike against it for those who want to reach superhero status after five minutes of play.
Enough rambling. If you want a fun dungeon romp with turn based combat, then buy this game.
Worst...game...ever!

This game does NOT use the 3rd edition rules. Most of the races/classes are missing (no wizards!). You don't get to pick your feats or skills. Most of the feats and skills are even missing (Monks don't get flurry???)
It is also very buggy.
Stay away, this game is awful. It's not even a role-playing game. It's a simple dungeon hack. Buy Diablo 2, you'll be much happier.
