Looks good but play is lacking

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 0 / 0

This game is ok overall but the play seems slow and the controls
aren't the most intuitive or easy. It looks pretty good but
nothing exceptional here.

The character customizability seems to be nonexistant, you just
distribute stat points and pick one of 2-8 character models
depending on the race/class choice you made.

Overall it's disappointing, but that's mostly my own fault for
expecting it to have all the classes and races from DnD 3rd
Edition, they left out my favorite (Wizards), and because I
thought the character developement would be more involved.

Bad rpg, good graphics

This could have been a good game. The combat system is very true to the pen and paper D&D. The problem is that it is really, really repetitive. If you've had one battle, you've pretty much had them all. And aside from a few extra powers, the battles don't change. The RPG aspect of the game is laughable. Most of the time I had no idea when I was fulfilling quests as most are kill the bad guy in front of you. Now I have to wait for a good CRPG like Neverwinter Nights to come out. Black Isle knows how to do D&D. UBI Soft doesn't

Crash dummy game

Okay, this is one of those games that crashes frequently. I have played all the way through a couple of times. The story line is good, the graphics are good, but the game is so unstable that it crashes about every 15 min. on my computer. The scroll down spell lists are a pain in the .... while in the turn base combat. There are a shortage of quick key options in this game and I seem to waste a lot of time walking back and fort to areas that should have a short cut (most areas do not respawn). A recall spell of some kind would make this game so much more bearable. This game would take considerably less time if you didn't spend so much time walking your characters from one corner of the world to the other without even having one encounter.
I really like the story line, but there aren't very many things you can do for extra XP. This game had all the makings of a great game but fell incredably short because of a crashing problem and so far to walk with nothing to kill.
Like I said I did play this game through a couple of times, but it is a slow play. The multi-character part of this game is okay, but it seems like my wizard always ends up first through the door or on the front lines when combat starts. There is no way to prevent this flaw that I have found. This game is fun if you can look beyond the crashes and the constant walking and the characters blocking the leader and the weakest character always going first no matter what you do to stop it. Neverwinter Nights is a much better game in my opinion or even Heritic Kingdom, but any game will have its flaws and this one has several, but it is still fun to play

Fun game but lots of bugs

This was a great game in theory, but the bugs made it hard to cope with sometimes in reality. Make sure you install the patches before you play! Quite satisfying in length, but maybe a little more variety in the landscape would be nice. Overall a good time.

Nothing too impressive

I agree with a lot of the things that have been said already. While the graphics on the backgrounds and the animations are very good, and the sounds are good as well, the graphics on the characters are somewhat lacking. Character creation is fairly limited and somewhat bad at points (the fact that when you choose an icon for your character, you only get two options, and they are basically the same exact thing, only slightly different colors, was disappointing at best). I think where this game really loses out, though, is gameplay. It's just not fun. It plays like a Windows program, and that's just not exciting. You cannot scroll the screen beyond where your characters are standing, making the view limited. You can't rotate the view, meaning that your characters are often standing in the way of something you are trying to look at. Basically, nothing about the game screams excitement. It's a ho-hum, not really worth buying until maybe it comes down in price kind of game.

Great game

This game is really fun. I have been playing it steady for about five days now. The experience is very similar to playing paper and dice D & D. Fighting is at the center of the game: and it is very fun. You must think to win a battle. There are bugs, including an install bug, which did not come up on my install, and a save corrupt bug, which did happen to me. I was able to correct the second bug by reading the forums on various websites for the game. Keep an eye on this game, and if a good patch comes out, it would be worth getting.

a decent game, but doesn't live up to the hype

well from what everyone else has written about their copies being buggy and some not even being able to install the game. i feel luck, i ran out and bought the game the day it was released. and i had no problems installing it or playing. not a single bug so far. but and this is the major problem i have with the game, it is way too boring, not anything like it was hyped up to be. the controls are somewhat sluggish, and i hate the menu interface. but still all in all a decent game

Don't buy it!

Thousands of user complaints about incompatibility with their systems, severely curtailed ability to customize the graphics and sound, reduced implementation of promised features, and little incentive to roleplay within the game are just a few reasons to avoid it.

This is probably the worst implementation I've ever seen. Go buy Baldur's Gate instead.

Do not buy this game yet, wait until next year.

First and formost, this game is buggy, and has even destroyed some OS when trying to uninstall. I got mine to run and played it for about 10 hours. During this time the game slowed to a halt about 12 times. A patch would resolve this problem, but the game also suffers in gameplay. All the hoot and holler about being the first 3E computer game for D&D can be forgotten, they butchered the rules. But there is good news, if you look past the bugs and the fact that this is not the game I was looking forward to ( A D&D 3E game ! ), I think a great RPG might be in there somewhere. But wait until they fix the darn thing!

Update: It has been about 3 months since the games release and the big patch (1.3) is not out yet. Wait until next year when (If? ) they get it fixed, it will cost less then ($) by then.

Awesome- long time coming

Xylina, in the reviews section here has said it, if you were any kind of pen and paper D&D fan, this game is a must, expecially since you can tweak out the game play with what limited game options you have. I am running a home brewed system:
abit kt7-raid, tbird 800@950, 30gb WDCaviar/60GB wd caviar, 12x10x40 creative CDRW/pioneer 16x10x40 DVD, 256 MB pc133, 64MB geforce pro/GTS and the game runs beautifully when I disable FSAA in the control panel. These other mucks out there who are whining need to learn how to use a computer before they think they can game
