I have really enjoyed playing a series beginnings and this game is no exception. I first thought years ago that this was a Final Fantasy game but instead it is a Mana game like Secret of Mana. I remember playing this game and really liking it. It has a story and the graphics are not so sparse that you do not have to pretend the blue is water and the green is land, but rather when you go onto land, there is texture like trees drawn and a cave opening. If you need color graphics then this and other games of this age will not be your cup of tea. I on the other hand had a great time playing it.

This is one of the best games ever. What is good about this game: pacing, story, final fantasy references, gameplay, fun, and the absolute best thing about this game is that it not its' horrible remake titled Sword of Mana.

Often overlooked as one of the red-headed stepchildren of the Final Fantasy series, FFA plays more like the early Zelda games than the incarnations of Final Fantasy that we are used to. That aside, the game is amazing, with an amazingly deep plot for the time period and plenty of options to customize your weapons and armor, four character traits that you can level up, and eight spells you pick up automatically through the game. While it can't compete with the depth or graphics of its successors, FFA is definitely an oft-overlooked classic from the original Game Boy era.

This game is fun at first, and the instruction booklet gets you to a certin point. Then they leave you to your own devices, it loses the fun. I still can't find out how to get past it.

Well one this is boring. The only good part is killing sombody good in medusas cave. And two the battles stink. if your looking for a final fantasy game, I suggest you skip it, unless you want torture.

The prequel to Secret of Mana

This game starts off the Mana series, and not many people know that. I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on each of the "Final Fantasies" for the Game Boy. Adventure is the best of the four. The storyline is recognizable to Secret of Mana veterans. A young woman is discovered as the key to the mana sanctuary, and as a newly discovered mana knight, you must save her and gaurd her. The battle system is just like the Zelda series. Your shield even works in the same fashion. Along your quest, you earn 8 different magic spells that will aid you on your journey. Many allies will show up and help you, with some having special abilities, for example, to heal you or replenish your MP. The game may get hard at some points but is somewhat easy overall. You also get to choose what stats go up when you level up. This makes for many different variations of the main character. You can make him a wise man that is superb with magic, or a strong barbarian. The animation can be choppy at times, but what more can you expect from an older game boy game. Overall, this game is great for road trips and good enough to play at home.

Best pre-advance, portable RPG available

I can't tell you how much I loved this game when I first played it years ago. The gameplay is addictive, the storyline is engaging, the puzzles and battles are moderately challenging, and the graphics are not so old that they are off-putting. This is a traditional maiden-in-distress adventure story with swords and magic, and was originally part of the Mana series (billed in the US as Final Fantasy to boost sales). A guide or FAQ may be useful to make sure you get all the secrets, but the game should not take anyone too long to beat. It does not meet the high standards of graphics, sound, and story that GBA games like Golden Sun are setting, but for nostalgic, "old school" gameplay this game can't be beat. Buy it if you can find it, and play the hell out of it.

I remember a few years ago playing this game. This was my introduction to the Secret of Mana series even though I believed this to be part of the Final Fantasy series. Maybe they called it this because they didn't know that they were going to make more games with the Mana tree, so no sense in saying FFAII and FFAIII. But the story line is definatly great. You start out as [your name for charecter here] in a forteress where the Dark Lord uses people to play in gladiator like fights. This seems like some of the Final Fantasy games where you start off with normal life for the charecter and then you delve into a rich story line. When you escape the castle, you meet up with a man who was freshly slain by monsters and a girl crying at his side. After talking to her, she tells you that she is looking for an old man. I forget his name since the time it's been, and from there, the story line becomes increasingly better. It was way ahead of it's time where it has plot twists and can bring out emotion in you. I was sad after fighting Medusa (won't say what happened) and at the tree of mana (my lips are still sealed) I don't have this game anymore so I am planning on buying it to beat it again -it's that great! There is also a remake of this game called Sword of Mana for the GBA but has minor changes that are enough for me to shun it because it will ruin my thoughts on one of the most gripping original Game Boy games ever. Buy it now!
