Probably the worst sonic game, but a good game

What I said above pretty much sums up my feelings about this game. I have played practicaly EVERY sonic game in excistance, with only but a very few exceptions, and am a HUGE Sonic fan. of all the games, I have had the least amount of fun with this one, why? Mainly because the difficulty curve went beserk and would make you think such a thing as a "difficulty curve" was just a figment of your imagination and never existed in the first place. I was un-able to even get passed the first zone because of the "dodgeball" boss, dodging has never been my strong suit in gaming. This boss however has gone done in history as what many people would call the hardest boss in Sonic history. And guess what? I used a level select code (which I would put here if I still remembered it) to get myself to the last level, the one you could only get to if you had all the Chaos Emeralds. And I beat the final boss, hands down, with little to no difficulty once so ever!! Losing too many times to count on the very FIRST boss, and not even losing one life to LAST boss? That's like, mayjorly messed up! Also Tails (my fav character) wasn't playable, instead you had to rescue him from Robotnik, (that's pretty much the whole plot, though with the way the Chaos Emeralds are hidden, I dought that hardly any one who plays this will be able to acomplish this, even if they beat Metal Sonic). I'd don't get it, the Genisis version is like SOOOOO much better! But if you have a Game Gear it might be worth a buy, it's dirt cheap (I've seen it for sale for 1 penny before!), and is better than most other Game Gear titles, though not as good as all the other Sonic titles on the system (such as Tails Adventures and Sonic Triple Trouble). Bottom line: It's not really that bad and is still fun, if you're a hardcore Sonic fan you probably should get it, and if you're looking for more Game Gear games you probably should get it, every one else get the Genisis version instead!

A very cool game

I remember when I had the sega Genesis. I loved it, and I ecspecially loved the sonic games! I remember, however, that I was really jealous of my cousin's game gear. So for a long time I wanted a Game Gear..... I never got one, because I couldn't afford one! But last December I ordered my first game gear from Amazon.com for just [price] and I love it! I mainly bought it because of the Sonic games, and although the sonic games for genesis are better, the one's for game gear are still real good.

Sonic 2 for game gear is a real fun game with cool levels. The first level is pretty hard but its real fun!A cave to start things off? The first boss is way to hard to beat for only the first level! I figured out an effective way to beat him though... what you need to do is, stay near the little monster thing. When those very annoying bouncy balls start coming down the slope( the high bouncy balls)stay near the little monster until the ball is close. Then, jump a little towards the monster, and then away from it. With practice you'll get the hang of it!

The second level is also real cool! Here's a tip.... On the first act of the second level, get 100 rings and then you'll get a life. Then go near the handglider, but do not jump on it. Jump over it... yep.. down where the spikes are and move over to the left. You should find a life box. Jump on it and then commit suicide by spiking yourself to death. Repeat the process over and over again! ( note: when you do this make sure that you get the invincibility box first.) I think that riding the hanglider is pretty fun! The secong act is kinda hard though, but once you learn to gain complete control of the hanglider(which does take practice) then everything will be ok. The boss for this level is pretty cool... one of my favorite bosses! A huge Bird! First jump on the little birdies and then you fight their momma! Jump on her head right after she has fired a fire ball at you, and repeat the process.

The third level- an underwater act is pretty cool but its extremely frustrsting( act 2 is) One Huge relief, however, is that this boss is the easiest in the game! jUST JUMP ON THAT BALL THAT IS on his head!( only jump when it's on its head!)

The fourth level- "Green Hills Zone" is great and very fun. It is very easy to get many lives here! ( I can't beat the 3rd act though, because I always end up falling on spikes!

However, with the use of codes I have played the other levels a little bit. I really enjoy the battle with siver sonic! He's cool, but he's extremely easy! I just hope that I can fingure out a way to beat the last act of Green Hills Zone.....

So all in all this is a great game! It's just a little bit hard, that's all!

The best hendheld Sonic game except for sonic advance

Well, this is a great game. It starts where Sonic goes on a trip to find adventure. He returns, only to find all his animal friends missing. He then finds a note from Tails,"Sonic, Robotnik has kidnapped me. He says that if you don't bring six Chaos emeralds to his lair, he'll kill me!"
Sonic sets off on the hardest Sonic game apart from Sonic spinball. The levels are;
1.Underground zone(81%)Fans expected Green hill first, but this level was there instead. It's quite fun.
2.Sky high zone(78%)This is quite a fun level, but act 2 is too anoying!
3.Aqua lake(75%)On act 1, this seems easy. But act 2 is the hardest single act in the game!
4.Green hill(85%)Does it need any introduction? This is the most popular Sonic level EVER!
5.Gimmick mountain zone(83%)This is one of the best levels in the game!
6.Scrambled egg zone(80%)You've found Robotnik, but if you don't have all the chaos emeralds, you won't go to the next level.
7.Crystal egg(87%)This is the last level in the game. It's quite hard, but beating Robotnik feels good!
VERDICT:This is a great game with lots of hidden stuff. The gameplay is also good.87%

if you are looking for a sonic game, get a genesis and get them. Better yet, get a GameCube and buy Sonic Mega Collection. In this game, sonic accelerates to top speed in around 0.7 seconds. Sonic usually takes about 3 seconds to accelerate. Also, the levels are VERY monotonous and boring and have no relation at all to the Genesis masterpiece. You are better off saving your money, unless you want a few minutes of fun in the car and you can find it for less than $$$.

A great game, but...

Sonic the Hedhog 2 is an excellent game. The best part is it sells for next to nothing even if it's still sealed in the box. Still, I would reccomend this game, no matter what the price. That's because it's priceless. But there's a major and known flaw that I must tell you about in this game. Let's go into the depths of Sonic 2 for GameGear...
The Graphics: Excellent! Sonic looks real, his facial expressions are clear, and all of the worlds are colorful and well drawn out. Nothing bad here.

The Sound: Pretty good. When you jump, it makes a boing noise. Sounds are very simple and to the point. Nothing fancy.
The Music: Excellent again! The first act has the best tune ever! The music for boss battles is excellent as well.
The Gameplay: What would this game be without gameplay? Basically, this is Super Mario Bros. with a hedhog and fancier levels. You run around, collect strange coins, and try to avoid trechorous obstacles. Now, the enemies aren't much of a problem in this game. They seldomly appear and are easy to do away with. The challenge is the obstacles and bosses, which I'll explain in a minute.
The Challenge: Once you beat this one, you're going to want to run around and spread the news. The bosses are EXTREMELY challenging, although some of them tend to be very easy as well. Obstacles also make tretchery. In some places, you must trust the game. This is because there are blind jumps. You just leap and let the game send you to where you need to go. Sometimes the key is to sort of relax and let it go. Trust your instincts. Trust the game. Never will there be a blind jump that the game will kill you with. You just have to go with the flow.
Replay Value: Most levels have many secrets and more than one route to take to the end making replay high. You may have to beat the game more than twice just to get all the secrets. It also plain fun. Alot of the bosses are fun, too. Just a cool game.
Should I buy it?: YES! BUY THIS GAME! It is very cheap, can be found in the box for the most part, and is FUN. If you have a Sega Game Gear, this is the game you want.

A step up!

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega game gear is a step up from the previuos Sonic title, Sonic the Hedgehog. The gameplay is a little better and the graphics are somewhat sharper. This game is a classic: it is the only Sonic title where you can actually handglide in one zone. If you have never played Sonic 2 for the game gear, I strongly suggest that you purchase a copy right away.

rip off

it is terrible. its a rip of the genisis version. you can't play with tails. when you have to deafeat the boss you have no rings. and the graphics is lousy. so don't buy it it's just a waste of money.

Good, but the game is hard

Well, I don't have a Genesis but I tested both. I have a Game Gear. I used PC to play the Genesis version. The overview:
We go through Genesis and Game Gear in both.

Difficulty: Game Gear - Hard Genesis - Medium (average)
Fun(out of 5 stars): Game Gear - 4 stars Genesis - 4 stars
Worlds: Game Gear - A+ Genesis - A
Enemys: Game Gear - Fantastic Genesis - Average

I could go on but you get it. Still I don't know why the 2 versions are different.

Summary: Buy Game Gear version you are TOTALLY a master at games! I've been playing for 6 years while I'm 10, starting with my NES, mastering many games, but this is the toughest I have! Buy it if you have been gaming for at least 10 years now! This game DESERVES bragging rights!
Buy the Genesis version if you started less than that(I can beat this) get this. Just because a kid beat it doesn't mean you shouldn't buy! It rockz!

Both are good, see for yourself!

Great Fun

An old game never really goes out of style. Same is true with this game. It is an old game that has never gone out of style. As the levels go on we find them to become harder and harder. But the game is still easy enough for people of any age to finish the game. A great game overall.
