I've played several sonic games(14 to be exact), and this one is probably the worst. It's probably the best one on genesis, but I don't have a clue what they were thinking when they made this one. there's nowhere to run or speed up in this game. in the console version, I used to dash through the loops and run down the spirals until time ran out. in the fist zone, the only place where you can even come close to having fun with the sonic speed that made the series famous is going down some hills on a rickety set of tracks in a mine cart. Infact, I didn't see a single loop, or any spirals, or anything relative to one. there is hope though, sonic chaos is so much fun that it's probably worth 12 copies of this game. the most important thing to remember if you want to buy sonic 2 for game gear is not to expect anything nearly as good as the console version, so get sonic chaos.
Good, but the game is hard

Well, I don't have a Genesis but I tested both. I have a Game Gear. I used PC to play the Genesis version. The overview:
We go through Genesis and Game Gear in both.
Difficulty: Game Gear - Hard Genesis - Medium (average)
Fun(out of 5 stars): Game Gear - 4 stars Genesis - 4 stars
Worlds: Game Gear - A+ Genesis - A
Enemys: Game Gear - Fantastic Genesis - Average
I could go on but you get it. Still I don't know why the 2 versions are different.
Summary: Buy Game Gear version you are TOTALLY a master at games! I've been playing for 6 years while I'm 10, starting with my NES, mastering many games, but this is the toughest I have! Buy it if you have been gaming for at least 10 years now! This game DESERVES bragging rights!
Buy the Genesis version if you started less than that(I can beat this) get this. Just because a kid beat it doesn't mean you shouldn't buy! It rockz!
Both are good, see for yourself!
Great Fun

An old game never really goes out of style. Same is true with this game. It is an old game that has never gone out of style. As the levels go on we find them to become harder and harder. But the game is still easy enough for people of any age to finish the game. A great game overall.

it is terrible. its a rip of the genisis version. you can't play with tails. when you have to deafeat the boss you have no rings. and the graphics is lousy. so don't buy it it's just a waste of money.
A great game, but...

Sonic the Hedhog 2 is an excellent game. The best part is it sells for next to nothing even if it's still sealed in the box. Still, I would reccomend this game, no matter what the price. That's because it's priceless. But there's a major and known flaw that I must tell you about in this game. Let's go into the depths of Sonic 2 for GameGear...
The Graphics: Excellent! Sonic looks real, his facial expressions are clear, and all of the worlds are colorful and well drawn out. Nothing bad here.
The Sound: Pretty good. When you jump, it makes a boing noise. Sounds are very simple and to the point. Nothing fancy.
The Music: Excellent again! The first act has the best tune ever! The music for boss battles is excellent as well.
The Gameplay: What would this game be without gameplay? Basically, this is Super Mario Bros. with a hedhog and fancier levels. You run around, collect strange coins, and try to avoid trechorous obstacles. Now, the enemies aren't much of a problem in this game. They seldomly appear and are easy to do away with. The challenge is the obstacles and bosses, which I'll explain in a minute.
The Challenge: Once you beat this one, you're going to want to run around and spread the news. The bosses are EXTREMELY challenging, although some of them tend to be very easy as well. Obstacles also make tretchery. In some places, you must trust the game. This is because there are blind jumps. You just leap and let the game send you to where you need to go. Sometimes the key is to sort of relax and let it go. Trust your instincts. Trust the game. Never will there be a blind jump that the game will kill you with. You just have to go with the flow.
Replay Value: Most levels have many secrets and more than one route to take to the end making replay high. You may have to beat the game more than twice just to get all the secrets. It also plain fun. Alot of the bosses are fun, too. Just a cool game.
Should I buy it?: YES! BUY THIS GAME! It is very cheap, can be found in the box for the most part, and is FUN. If you have a Sega Game Gear, this is the game you want.
A step up!

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega game gear is a step up from the previuos Sonic title, Sonic the Hedgehog. The gameplay is a little better and the graphics are somewhat sharper. This game is a classic: it is the only Sonic title where you can actually handglide in one zone. If you have never played Sonic 2 for the game gear, I strongly suggest that you purchase a copy right away.
This is a REALLY poor remake

if you are looking for a sonic game, get a genesis and get them. Better yet, get a GameCube and buy Sonic Mega Collection. In this game, sonic accelerates to top speed in around 0.7 seconds. Sonic usually takes about 3 seconds to accelerate. Also, the levels are VERY monotonous and boring and have no relation at all to the Genesis masterpiece. You are better off saving your money, unless you want a few minutes of fun in the car and you can find it for less than $$$.
A fun challenging game!

Well, this is a great game. It starts where Sonic goes on a trip to find adventure. He returns, only to find all his animal friends missing. He then finds a note from Tails,"Sonic, Robotnik has kidnapped me. He says that if you don't bring six Chaos emeralds to his lair, he'll kill me!"
Sonic sets off on the hardest Sonic game apart from Sonic spinball. The levels are;
1.Underground zone(81%)Fans expected Green hill first, but this level was there instead. It's quite fun.
2.Sky high zone(78%)This is quite a fun level, but act 2 is too anoying!
3.Aqua lake(75%)On act 1, this seems easy. But act 2 is the hardest single act in the game!
4.Green hill(85%)Does it need any introduction? This is the most popular Sonic level EVER!
5.Gimmick mountain zone(83%)This is one of the best levels in the game!
6.Scrambled egg zone(80%)You've found Robotnik, but if you don't have all the chaos emeralds, you won't go to the next level.
7.Crystal egg(87%)This is the last level in the game. It's quite hard, but beating Robotnik feels good!
VERDICT:This is a great game with lots of hidden stuff. The gameplay is also good.87%
