This is the best game I have played to date. It is a game that has a great story, rich character, a huge world, and almost an endless amount of things you can do. Above all it is as involving as the player wants to be. You can rush through the quests and not be thorough or simply take your time reading all of the books you find, collecting various plants to make potions out of, or completing a set of armor to store in one of the various houses you can own in the game. The graphics are great, the sounds and voice-work is impressive, the orchestral music is grand and soft at the right moments. There are just so many ways to approach the game the replay ability is huge in that you can create a lot of different classes with various mixes of traits to play the game over again under a different light. If you want to feel like playing a game where you get your moneys worth and then some --do not hesitate to pick this up.
As far as the downloadable content to Oblivion is concerned: I have downloaded all of the add-on content that is offered on xboxlive for this game. The Shivering Isles content pack is THE BEST add on content--it is in fact more interesting and fun and engrossing than what I have played in the game with a few exceptions before they made it available to download. If you buy this game be sure to download The Shivering Isles--you will not regret it. If you get stuck or don't understand the menu system there are plenty of websites available for assistance, walkthroughs, ect... This is the best game I have bought so far- well worth every penny.

I typically stay with the shooter games, but a friend turned me on to Oblivion and it's all I've played for a week. The open game play is fantastic which is a big departure from the linear game play of the shooter style. But the quests were easy to initiate and not at all ambiguous or random as I thought they would be with such an open environment.
The programming really took advantage of the 360 hardware. I run mine on a 60 inch high def and the graphics look awesome. The controls are well organized and easy to use.
So what did I not like about it?
The fighting is pretty tame. Your only attacks are hit and hit again. To perform a power hit you just hold the button down.
Moving and picking up objects are basic and you can't move dead bodies (this is a problem if a NPC dies on top of something). When you drop something it just goes flying. You can't place something on a table or stack things neatly.
I love this game. It really set the bar high for other RPG's.
Great but could be better

I just bought this game and have been playing it for over 20 hours now. I love it It is a fantastic game but i do have some constructive criticism. One The creators spent a lot of time on the game world and not enough time on character anamation. The movement of the character when you are in a 3rd person view is verry chopy, or atleast i think so,. and the combat in the game is not as good as it could be. The combat could be more fluid. For instance why is it that when you jump you can not swing your weapon. And it is verry difficult to fight more than one enemy at a time because you have to turn and face them befor you can hit them. If anyone has played Fable for Xbox. you will know what i mean when i say the Combat should be more like that. But overall especialy for an early release game on a relativly new system this game is beautifull and the world is so expancive you could play it for years and never get tired of it.
Best game ever but buy Goty

Elder Scrolls IV has definately succeeded where Morrowind fell short. This game has so many different possibilities its amazing. As stated in other reviews, the character creation process is very similar to that of Morrowind. The character creation system was one of the few things that I greatly enjoyed about Morrowind, so this is an excellent plus. There are a multitude of premade classes to choose from as well as the ability to create your own kind of hero. The game is very intuitive about suggesting class types that will fit the way that you have been playing the game at the time of class selection.
The graphics are phenomenal. On that same line, I have huge issues with first person games. Every first person game that I have ever played has caused me motion sickness. I have noticed that the frame rate is what causes the sickness, the lower the frame rate the more ill I become. I had figured that I enjoyed Morrowind, and had heard so many good things about Oblivion that I would just have to suffer through it and only play for 45 minutes at a time. Oblivion is so well done that I have, at times, played it for 3 continuous hours and not felt even the slightest discomfort. I was more than pleasantly surprised to have this added bonus to playing.
Another feature that I find great is the ability to select which quest you want to be your current quest. It may be that I simply did not know how to use the journal feature in Morrowind, but I don't remember being able to select specific quests as my primary quest and having only that quest highlighted and guided. You may have 5 different quests running at the same time, but can easily focus on one, and switch mid quest to another one. The game guides you along your quests and doesn't leave you fumbling around, trying to figure out where you are going. You almost always know where you are going and how to get there.
I only have a few very small complaints about the game so far. The loading times are a bit long, but they are understandable considering the amount of information that needs loaded. Every now and again when walking through the terrain, the game will hiccup. Again this is from the loading of new information, but again is forgivable. I also don't like how few enemies there are that attack you. When wandering the forests, you may go 5-10 minutes without finding an enemy to deal with. This makes it difficult to level certain skills. and at times can be boring. The great compensation for this is that you can also warp to areas you have already discovered and towns in the area.
Aside from a few very minor complaints, this game has been extremely satisfying and well worth the 60.00 paid for it. I can see myself playing this long term, and going back and playing it again as a different character and class type.

This is the single greatest game ever. If the 360 were created for the sole purpose of playing this game it would be well worth the expense. Warning: It will likely absorb every bit of free time you have available.
Dear lord Oblivion is the best again todate.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet:
I've been gaming for ten years, I have been in the very early stages of Alpha beta in many of the new MMORPGS. I own P.S2 and 360 ... Out of all the games i've played this is the BEST game I have ever crossed.. With over 300+ hours of game play the possablitys in this game is endless... You can be as evil or as good as you want..Unlike most games you are 100% in control of what YOU want to become in the end.
Buy this game.
WARNING: once you start...You wont stop, this game is like crack only worse- when you are not working or in school you will be playing this game. (Ever been hooked on the sims? yah, like that only worse)

After playing both Oblivion and Morrowind, they both have there pros and cons. Oblivion blows Morrowind out of the water with the graphics, but the game play is almost exactly the same. The story line in Morrowind is WAY better though. It took me almost 6 months to beat every quest in Morrowind and i've already beat Oblivion in under 2... a lot of the quest are eaither the same or almost the same as they were in Morrowind. The creators said that they "Started Over" with Oblivion with the quest and story line. altho you start the game the same(as a prisoner). Its like they just took Morrowind and changed the world and made the Graphics better. and the fact that when you are doing a quest the game tells you EXACTLY where you need to go for you mission... Morrowind wasnt like that, you had to work for what you earn. Oblivion is a great game i'll give it that. but Morrowind is a much much better RPG.

I'm traveling this week, so I thought I'd order on priority basis, with overnight shipping, for my son. They failed to ship (or provide updates), so I've cancelled. If you want it fast, just drop over to your local electronics store. I've never had luck with Amazon on new releases, even on products with no scarcity, such as this one.
A great RPG for the 360

This game is by no means a 5/5 stars game there are some faults that can get annoying. The game took me one week to beat doing all the quests and unlocking all the acheivments so I reccomend buying it opposed to renting. I really loved morrowind and was hyped about this game. I strongly suggest that if you have a high end PC to get it for that instead.
I'll go ahead and break it down into sections
Graphics 8/10 some of the best on the 360 however the draw rate is very short you can just be running then all of a sudden plants will appear. It really breaks the immersion.
Sound 7/10 The music gets repetative very fast there are not that many variations of music you have battle music, travel music and dungeon music you'll more than likely end up using custom soundtracks. The sword/axe and the bow sound very nice.
Gameplay- 8/10 If you have played morrowind you'll rather love or hate it. Bethesda took out darts and spears so now the only ranged weapon is a bow and the melee are reduced to swords/daggers/axe/ or a mace the developers got rid of the dice system where you had a chance to miss your enemy and now every strike hits your enemy. Also I dont know if my expectations were to high but the world just doesnt seem alive like morrowind did.
There are not as many quests as there was in morrowind. Also you can ride horses in this installment of the elder scrolls however since you cant attack while your on them they are more for looks. The main story is ok nothing shocking nor any major plot twists like KOTOR however all in all this game is still very good.
