Homies

It look stunning - the artwork is obviously inspired by Chris Foss and Peter Elson (sci-fi artists of the old 'Great Space Battles' books from the late-70's), and it's gorgeous, even more so than 'Conflict: Freespace'. Not only is it technically impressive, it has style, too - space itself is a colourful nebula, and the vehicle designs and paintwork give the impression that you have a gigantic set of cool toys at your disposal. Surprisingly, the 'Battlestar: Galactica'-esque story around which the game hangs is a cut above the average - whilst not exactly 'War and Peace' it's still much better you might expect.

The flow of play is less interesting, though. With no terrain as such, it's not so much a tactical game as a strategic one - the side that can field the most amount of units wins. As one of the other reviews mentions, a gigantic asteroid field would have helped things enormously. Furthermore, as in 'Urban Assault', the AI requires that you manage every significant unit at the same time, something which gets on your nerves quite quickly. And it gets very, very hard later on - especially as your status is carried from mission to mission. Often you realise that you're going to have to start again from scratch in order to complete later missions, and having to spend ages after you have 'won' mining for resources in order to build up your forces is very dull.

Do you want this? It's more or less one of a kind, and it's utterly stylish, although in the long run both 'Starcraft' and the older 'Total Annihilation' are more fun to play.

The best computer game, EVER. true 3D fleet combat in a gorgeous anime-inspired universe. I have been playing it daily for almost a year now. Everthing about this game is perfect, the music is haunting, the background and feel are epic and mature. Truly a masterpeice!

This game certifiably kicks ass. I am completely in awe of the beauty of the storyline, graphics, and espcially the music. Whoever thought of mixing Islamic music with sci-fi is brilliant; the solem and almost sad beauty of this game cannot be overemphasized. It's just beautiful; that's the best word to describe it. This game draws you in; the adrenaline rush I got from meeting an alien race in the depth of uncharted space was incredible.

Great game with choppy user control

I agree with other reviewers on the game's amazing graphics, great plot and revolutionary 3D RTS mechanism. Its very much like combining Wing Commander series and the Warcraft series together. For that, 5 stars are underrated.
However, I found that the responsivity of the user control are not up to par. Imagine, during the heat of the battle, you wanted to use your group of fighters to attack the enemy's squadron. You press Ctrl-Left Mouse to attack the enemy group, and before you know it, instead of attacking, you ended up selecting the enemy group and lose your chance to attack.

This game is simply amazing ...

I read reviews on this game and said I must have it. I played it and well was stunned. I figured it might be like Rebellion or something but this game is truly amazing. The fellow who only gave it a two doesn't look at the fact the those units that are standing there are ASKING you for orders they only do stuff under your command unless fired upon. The games graphics are excellnt I mean I have spent a good half an hour sitting there and staring. THis is a game i certainly recommend for any gamer.

This game doesn't raise the bar, it completely blows it away

What could be better then playing Command and Conquer in full 3D? Playing Homeworld! Homeworld is everything C&C is only better. The true 3D gameplay completely enthralled me. The graphics are top notch and very custimisable. The music is better than most sci-fi movie soundtracks. Most of all the game made me think, more so than any other stradegy game out there. Five stars, easily!

Game of the Year!

Homeworld was a groundbreaking game in almost every aspect; it shatters the 2D limits that we have placed in RTS games(real time strategy). The graphics are amazing but I would recommend a powerful system if you want to get the full impact. Not many games can capture the true feeling of 3D combat as Homeworld can. Granted, the control system is not top-notch but this game sparkles everywhere else. The music is impressive and the storyline unfolds like a good sci-fi should. I'll guarantee that this game will be the Game of the Year!

Please don't waste your money!

At first the game was great. The graphics were excellent and gameplay was fun, but after I started getting into it, it all changed. The ships would only follow my orders after nagging and begging them to do so. It was as if they were to good to fight for their colony and just decided to stay at home and eat cold pizza. I tried over and over to correct this problem. I ended up shooting several bullet holes in the CD. Basicly, the game just has to many glitches and is very poorly made. So, please do not waste your money on this game. There are much better ones out there.

Fantastic game!

For those of you who are real time game enthusiasts, Homeworld is sure to increase your heartbeat by at least 50%. Unlike most other real time games (ala Command and Conquer Series, Myth Series, and Warcraft/Starcraft Series), Homeworld uses a true 3D Engine. You can fight in almost any angle imaginable, the whole 360 degrees.

The ships available are extraudinary, the graphics, well, the screenshots speak for themselves. The storyline is also very engrossing, updating you about your position during the missions itself.

Do NOT let the fact that this game has two different races fool you. You might think, oh, that's twice the gaming time. But you're wrong there. The storyline is exactly the same for both the races, and there is only the difference of two units between the two. Despite that, all the units of both the races look different from each other.

You truly feel you're in space combat, at least science fiction space combat. The physics are no way realistic, but I'd rather have a fun game, which makes its own laws of physics, than have a VERY realistic game, and have no gameplay.

First of its kind and well worth the praise

This is a 3D RTS game and as such will require a lot of getting used to. I am a very spatial person so the interface was very intuitive, but for others, it might take a long time to understand and master or never at all. The story is original and gripping. The music is enchanting and after 8 years I still go back and listen to it. The races that you'll encounter are just incredible. It is like the Odyssey, so I guess you can say it is a Space Odyssey of sorts. There are just so many strategies and tactics you can use with the multitude of units at your selection. The only limitation is your creativity.

This is definetly a smart people's game. Don't go in to it thinking it's another mindless build and rush game. It will actually challenge you to think.
