Horrible beginning to a great series

Especially if you have already played Hitman 2, or Hitman: Contracts, do not buy this game. Perhaps it would have been fun, or less frustrating, had I -not- played the other two awesome games. This game is riddled with bugs, flaws, and just stupid design decisions.

The first is that it does not work on a great many newer computers. Fortunately, it works on mine, but I have tried lending it to two different people. Neither one could use it, and the Eidos Support page is very helpful, essentially saying it's Microsoft's fault, and they have no intentions of releasing a fix to make Hitman more compatible with newer systems.

The map is useless, showing only you and your exit point. It is even more frustrating than that, but there aren't enough words to describe everything, so I'll move on.

You cannot save; you must complete the entire mission before it will autosave for you.

You cannot check during the game to see if objectives have been completed; if you're unsure, for example, if you've properly hidden a body, or placed something at the scene of the crime, or maybe if you went on a rampage and aren't sure if you hit your target or not, you need to go all the way back to your Exit point to see if the objectives are marked as complete or not.

Many of the buttons and commands require you to be in a very specific location to access them. You can be looking directly at a button, moving the cursor around in front of it, but it may be that you need to be standing a few feet away, facing in the opposite direction to use it. Time-wasting trial and error is wonderful, especially when you can't save the game.

Finally, the AI is just great. I loved pulling a silenced gun a ways behind a civilian, sending him immediately running, as he obviously heard me pulling the gun from my coat. The old man then soaked three shots to the body. So these civilians are psychic -and- sporting body armor!

In conclusion, Hitman 2 was amazing fun. I opted for the Silent Assassin style myself. Hitman: Contracts was not as good as Hitman 2, but still great. The original, Hitman: Codename 47 shows me that the design team was lazy, the support team ineffective, and the game ended up being more frustration than it's worth to play. Buy one of the other games, and play it twice. Skip this one.

Yes, this game is amazingly difficult, as the "Cons" say up above. The enemies do the same thing every time you play the level, so basically you just play the same level over and over to find out the scripting of that level so you can make an attempt to beat it. And quick, your hit might leave, so it's timed. Also, it took me an hour to beat the tutorial, which is required. And, even worse, you can't save during levels which makes it frustrating. Barely over 10 small maps. Maybe a few more. Bad Game.

I had looked forward to this game for months. It installed without incident. The problem I had was the tutorial, beginning with the elevator (lesson #4). The booklet says to "call elevator". I didn't have to because the elevator was already there with its door open. Then the instructions are to click on the control panel and select "basement level 3". Clicking on the control panel did not work. What did work was to spin wildly inside the elevator clicking on the walls and everything else until it moved. Then I go to the very last Lesson (9) with the sniper rifle. I could not put it down and was unable to finish the tutorial, and as a result could not play the game. This game is loaded with bugs. Don't take my word for it--go to eidosinteractive.com and look at the forums for Hitman. I wasn't the only one to have trouble in the elevator.

Great idea VERY POOR execution.

I had waited for this game after playing the demo and what a big letdown. First of all you cant really play the game longer than 30 to 45 minutes because it slows down to such a crawl that it takes you 10 seconds to perform a action. Its not my system, running a 1 GIG HP,128 mb memory and Nividia card, besides everthing else runs fine. Also the game has so many bugs that sometimes you have come so close to completing a mission and it crashs for no apparent reason, there is no save game feature so you end up repeating so much over and over. There are so many other ANNOYING bugs that i just dont have time to go onto. Check out the Eidos site and you will see that i am not the only one with these problems and the game is incomplete, one mission is to run from one end of the jungle to the other, and was rushed out for Christmas. A suggestion for Eidos change the name to CRASHMAN CODENAME 500 BUGS

Yes, the graphics are great. Yes, it's fun to play as a hitman. The controls are different from most other FPS but they are manageable. The AI can be a toss up at times. So what's my complaint that led me to giving this game one star? HITMAN DOES NOT HAVE A SAVE GAME FEATURE. Some of the maps are rather long and you will end up playing them from the beginning over and over and over and over and over and over and over . . . repeating the same tasks each time, even during the opening tutorial. Since there are only 10 or 12 levels in the game this is probably an attempt to make the game appear longer. Shame on IO Interactive for ruining what could have been a great game. Unless your mental capacity is limited to that of a gold fish whose every swim around the bowl is a new adventure, this game is not for you.

Maybe I'm a moron, though. I loved Dues Ex by Eidos, as well as other FPS like Undying and Alice. After about the 20th time getting thrown back in the start room on the first level, despite following the cheat guide step by step (plus, no way to save mid-level), I've given up.

If you find a way past the first training level, I hear the game is really clever. I'm not able to do it. Too bad, I really wanted this one to be cool.

Shame on the developers. Most people would have told them what I have, if they'd listened.

OK, I give up. I consider myself an experienced gamer. I've played Deus Ex, all three Thief games, and just finished Max Payne which was insanely fun and exciting. I own at least 25 adventure and FPS games. What a disappointment Hit Man is. I struggled my way to the 4th mission, and after two whole days of repeating the same thing over and over again, I quit. How could Eidos make a game like this with no save game function??? How many times do they expect people to repeat an entire (difficult) level from the beginning?? On mission 4, I finally made it all the way to completing all 4 tasks, and then when I could not make it to the escape boat, I was booted all the way back to start again for the umpteenth time. In addition, handling weapons takes so many mouse clicks that you are shot dead before you can even get armed. Graphics and sound are OK but not good enough to compensate for all the short falls. I am all for a challange, but when it stops being any fun at all, I feel ripped off. Buy this game if you want to feel the same way. It is nothing but an excercise in frustration. I gave it 2 stars for "fun" because if only Eidos had used their brains and allowed for saves, this could have been a great FPS game on a par with the ones I mentioned. As is, it sucks. Gamers, be warned!

Fun, but runs horribly on my computer

I played the demo and knew I had to have this game. It's fun to just be a everyday pedestrian one minute and climbing into a window to do a hit the next. I was very disappointed on how the game ran on my system! I have many first person games and this is the only one that causes me grief. I have a Dell 450 mhz, 128 megs of RAM and a 16 mb Nvidia TNT card. I realize this isn't the best system right now, but I would think that I'd at least be able to run the game at 800x600. When the gameplay continued to be extremely jumpy (even with the patch) I tried (gasp) 640x320 graphics. Still, it was very jumpy and unplayable. So the game went into my drawer. Maybe I'll dust it off when I get a new computer next year.

I thought that I was going mad...............

..Until I read Rob Matthews' review of this game. I am also stuck on the training mission. I never got past it since I would go up the elevator, shoot a guard and then wind up at the beginning. This is a bug to end all bugs. It felt like I was in that Star Trek episode where they kept repeating the same day over and over again.

I had high hopes for this game...
