Yes, the game looks like its for small children. And while I will admit they'll probably have fun with the hamster-like characters, I wouldn't recommend this game for anyone under eight or nine years old. While this game is not an RPG, it has some of the characteristics, as there are some quests/goals you need to accomplish before you can move on. This isn't an platform hoping Mario game, folks; its more of a light RPG.
While I had only vaguely heard of Hamtaro before I bought this game, it's totally okay. There is no need for you to have any knowledge of the television show Hamtaro in order to have fun playing. And at its super-reasonable price, it's more than worth its cost.

This game is sooooooooooo cool! It's perfect for both boys and girls. The puzzles are never too hard to figure out (but sometimes parts of it are frustrating). The hardest ones are probably finding Cappy, Stan, and Sandy. I still haven't figured out how to keep Stan away from the girls in Sky Garden, Sandy helps you get him away, but I still don't get it. Since Cappy went into that cave thingy in the Ruins and the other hamster is blocking the way, I still can't figure out how to get him to move. If anyone knows how, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please tell me how! Its the only place where I'm stuck. I've got all the other Ham-Hams(Snoozer and Boss are already there, Boss because he's guarding the surprise, and Snoozer because he's always sleeping. They'll both give you info, Boss about the Ham-Hams, Snoozer about hints on how to get them back.)
A tootru spiffie game!

Although Hamtaro is considered a little kids type thing, this game is definitely not for 5-year-olds! I'm almost 13, and I had some trouble with it. My friend doesn't much like Hamtaro, but she was totally hooked on the game.
You've probably heard the plot. The character you play is Hamtaro. Boss is planning a surprise but he wants everyone back at the Ham-Ham Clubhouse. So you have to go and find everyone. But they're not just going to come back with you...you have to do something for them in order to get them to come back. And it gets harder and harder. You use Ham-Chat, the Ham-Ham language, to figure things out. But don't worry, learning Ham-Chat isn't like learning Spanish or Russian--you don't really have to memorize anything (though it would be helpful and it isn't hard). Boss gives you some words to start off with, and then you find more as you go along. There's always a handy Ham-Ham notebook available to you with the definitions of all of the words you've learned. The more words you know, the more you can do, and the more Ham-Hams you can find.
If you're tired of looking for Ham-Hams or you've found them all, there are other things you can do. You can buy clothes at stores and dress Hamtaro up, create a dance to music, or just search around and have fun.
If this game is so perfect, then why did I take away a star? Because I think the game gets kind of boring if I'm stuck on one particular thing or if I've mostly completed it. I also think the areas where Hamtaro can visit could've been a little more creative. It's still a lot of fun, though.
I definitely recommend this to kids and teens, though not kids too young. It's cute, the graphics translate really well onto the Gameboy, and it's challenging. Also, keep in mind that while it was made for Gameboy Color, it can still be played on Gameboy Advance.
Goodgo! Bye-Q!

I bought this game because it was too kawai to put down. Oddly enough, the creator's name is Kawai, which means cute in Japanese. IT IS SO CUTE! The game itself is much more than adorable, and the setup is well-done. The price of 19.99 is very Hamchu (kind) to the wallet.
You start out in the clubhouse and Boss tells you to bring all of the Ham-Hams back so he can share his secret. I thought his secret would be something like he's actually a girl hamster and behind that door was his other wardrobe (it's based off an anime, what do you expect?). No-p, it's a hamchu surprise, so play and find out! Well, he gives you 4 ham-chat words to start with, Hamha (hi), Hif-hif (smell), Tack-q (tackle), and Dig-dig (dig ^.^). You then go around to the places on the map where you have a sunflower (you can go there) and meet new hamsters. There's always things to do, so explore everywhere and ham-chat as much as you can!
What I liked: There's more than a story. There's also Ham-Jam, which lets you dance to music using Ham-Chat words. It's bestest! I look spiffie dancing. Don't chuk-chuk! It's good exercise and it's fun too! You can also go shopping and buy clothes for Hamtaro and then play dress up (I never did that as a kid, I think it's about time now!). Then you take a picture and it goes in your room and you see it each time you start the game. I have a wondachu Japanese outfit now. One more thing, you don't have to memorize the words since they are recorded for you in a Ham-Chat notebook which you can get to by pushing the start key. But you start using them in everyday conversation, and it scares people (I tell people bye-q all the time!). One more thing, the animation is bestest. Hamtaro's facial expressions are very funny (try dig-dig in a random spot), and the moves that they do to show the ham-chat words are good too! One more thing, the music is so catchy! I wish they made a soundtrack!
What don't I like? It's difficult! I just beat it last night because I couldn't get Cappy or Jingle back. But I figured it out because I would not chuk-chuk (give up). If you get stuck, please do not use cheat books since they take the fun out of the game. Even though I was stuck for a while, the game was still fun since there was so much to do and I could always find new words or new conversations to have. You can't think logically about this game! Remember that it's rated E for "comic mischief". That's how I figured out the hard parts. I think Cappy is the hardest to get back. Here's a hint, you don't get to him by going in the front of the . That hamster doesn't want to get up, and you won't convince her. Tack-q bowling is the bestest sub-game (maybe it's the only one). Oh yeah, I also don't like how people look at you funny if you say you are playing the Hamtaro game, but it really is for everyone, not just elementary school kids (I'm in college!)!One last thing, I read about all of the ideas for making ham-chat teach you other languages, and I agree with that, but I think it has a better use as an antidepresant. It makes you happy! So go play and learn your ham-chat! Bye-q and goodgo!

My friend got this game, and we both started playing it. We both liked the show, and I thought it would be easy. Boy, was I WRONG!!! It is EXTREMELY hard, and is worth getting, because it is a lot of fun. We beat it only when we had a game guide. This is a great gift for ANY Hamtaro, or gaming fan. The only down point is, that you can only have 1 game saved at a time. As they say, don't judge a book by it's cover. It may look cute, but it's a hard game to beat!
