This game rocks!! If you loved Half-Life you'll love this game. In my opinion it is at least as good as, if not better than Half-Life. Superb graphics/sound & storyline to keep you on the edge of your seat consistently.
The hottest first person shooter game I've ever played!!

Wow! This is a wholly original super fun game. The weapons are awesome and totally progammable. There's even a programmable tank you get to drive on one of the levels. The enemies run the gauntlet from human snipers to robotic monsters to dinosaurs and more. Though it it utilizes the Half-Life architecture, it is not a exactly the sequel to Half-Life but it's own game, with it's own awesome worlds at the far end of the galaxy. Graphics are great, fully realistic. Though it has a story line, it does not get in the way of the non-stop awesome action.

To start off, the game uses the Half-Life engine and the HL AI. Which is not a bad thing since HL put the gaming community on it's ear a few years back, with it's great game. So pretty much this is HL just with different story and setting, like I said that is the good thing. There are some points about the game that no one else has pointed out. The biggest to me is the game is just to short. HL took me 3 weeks to complete, Gunman 8 hours. This has happened to me twice now with add ons to HL, and that is pretty much what Gunman is, an add on. The other problem with the game is a texture problem. This does not affect the game, but do expect a patch in the near future. The last complaint is the fact that the story seems a little weak. You really never get to know who you are in the game, or who the Gunman really are. Once again this does not affect the game play, but does affect the way you feel about the character. What I did like about the game was the gun layout. You have a good array of weapons that can be configured to your liking. This is a good idea because of the fact of only being able to carry so many things. This way your laser gun can become a sniper riffle with the right model add on. Now you can use the right weapon for the right job and do it on the fly with just the click of the mouse. I also like the fact of being able to drive a tank from time to time in the game. This gives you a nice brake from running and shooting all the time. Okay so I gave it 3 stars, will mostly because it was so short. I do not like the thought of game companies throwing a few levels into a game and just not taking the time to make a fun experience, just to make money. If you have not played Half Life, GO now and buy it and see for yourself what Gunman should have been. Also if you want a great game try Deus Ex, loads and loads of fun and game play there.
Half Life, in another form - but not as good!

When this game was first introduced by ReWolf Software, I admit I was excited about the possibilities this game possessed. When Valve took over the project, I pretty much lost any interest in the game. I was really hoping that the game would actually be in the Half Life universe, rather than only using the antiquated graphics engine. Sadly, I was incorrect. The unfortunate part of the game is...well, the game. Turok was bad enough on the N64. Why would I want to play it on the PC? If the game was still offered as a free download like several other Half Life modifications (Team Fortress Classic, Front Line Force, etc.), I would have given the game a higher rating. Otherwise, the game is not worth the $30. And that is my two cents.
Great 3D shooter

At first it could be easy to overlook this product, as it is a total-conversion of the classic Half Life that was created by a group of new programers the world over. Many of the team had not even met one another as they worked on the project. That being said, they game is fantastic, the work that resulted is a fantastic 3D action shooter, with an enjoyable storyline. The player is cast in the role of Archer, the new leader of the Gunman. The Gunman battle enemies in the galaxy keeping it safe for colonization. The General of the Gunman was lost in a mission years ago, and in the time sense, deadly alien Xenomes have been raiding the colonies and killing all they find. Before long, Archer is deep in the mix, and being assaulted of all manner of creatures, in a all out war for survival and to end the Xenome menace. The game is a solid program, and has a very gripping and involving story. I especially enjoyed the level where the player gets to use a tank, and the enemies are very well designed and amongst the best ever created for a 3D shooter. The weapons in the game all have multiple settings for different abilities, and this can make for some great strategy when playing online. Here is hoping for another chapter in this series in the near future.
Where is the rest of it?

I became a big fan of Valve's work when I played Half-Life, which had an involved story-line that seamlessly blended the action with the plot. Although Gunman Chronicles has a pretty weak story line, it still managed to keep me interested. The graphics are what you would expect from Half-Life, with a few new features, like cutomizable weapons and a tank you can drive. The down side is, the game is VERY short. I beat the game in less than fifteen hours of game time. I'm quite disappointed. This would get a stronger rating if it weren't for the length.
A good first person shooter

Gunman chronicles shows it's heritage from Valve. The game engine and graphics appear right out of half-life. There is a patch for 3dfx video boards. The patch provides open GL and glide support. The AI is better than half-life. Characters have a greater ability to move with the scenes. The story lines and scenes could use more work. It's certainly worth a few rainy afternoons of play.

... This is a great game in the tradition of Half-Life but still falls short of the greatness which Half-Life attained. I guess then I should start off with why I gave it 4 stars instead of five.
First the game is still based on the HL engine. While still being a good engine to use it is starting to show its age. HL came out about 2-3 years ago and FPS engines have had a drastic over haul in that time. The game still looks great and plays great though.
Secondly the levels are a little too short for me. I played it for a couple hours last night and I am already on the 3rd planet. The box says that there are 4 immense worlds to explore and well I haven't done much exploring to say the least and the worlds are not immense at that. Hopefully the 4th world will be a little bigger. Ya the story line is a little hokey but its better than many I have seen.
Well other than those two gripes the game shines. Each of the weapons has several functions with situations calling on your use of those various functions sometime throughout each level. The enemies are quite varied and fit in with the planet and its surroundings and their AI is pretty good.
I should say that I haven't played online yet with it so I am not going to comment on its multiplayer functions yet so this review may seem a little premature but I was here and what the hey...I wrote it.
Overall this is a fun game and if you like HL and Unreal then you will enjoy this game....
Disappointed

This is definetly a step back for Sierra. This game seemed to have all the annoying parts of half-life plus a few of it's own. Half Life is a great game, but it's engine does have some problems. This game seemed to be incomplete or like corners were cut to get it out for Christmas.
I finished this game in less than a week and I didn't really spend that much time on it.
This game rocks!

I read an online interview with the team in which they said there are three play levels (easy, medium, difficult). The easy version is basically for novice gamers and the game does go by in about 8 - 15 hours. Try the difficult setting and the game is superior to Half-Life and just as long. The thing is -- the innovations such as totally unique weapons that obey they laws of physics but that do things never done before in a game and the foes ( robots, odd but very cool creatures, human snipers, dinosaurs) have incredible artificial intelligence at the "difficult" level and are damn hard to kill. This game is great--it's too bad so many evidently are missing out by playing on the "easy" setting. The plot line about a general who was left behind to die in a silicon based life form and survived to get even for being abandoned fuels the plot and the plot is really cool.
