Plowing the space lanes gets boring.

This game lost it's appeal after the initial 10 hours or so. At first, it was very interesting, with incredible graphics and an excellent tutorial that guided me through the missions to develop my character. However, after the initial buzz wore off it got old. Much time was spent warping from this place to that. While you can group, I found that I spent most of my time alone, watching the chat room and mostly the same die-hards chatting back and forth. When I asked for assistance, most were to busy to give any meaningful help. The game play could use some work. While experience in different areas sounds promising, I found that you need to really do a lot all three to be effective. This really creates problem. If you're a warrior, you need to explore to find new areas (which takes FOREVER in your pathetically slow ship) and trade to earn credits (which takes FOREVER with your pathetically small cargo hold). The other classes have similar problems. You can try one of the mixed classes, but then you end up being not real good at any task. On the whole, I would say that while the idea is a good one in theory, this isn't a game that I will continue to play for very long. Looking forward to Blizzard's WOW for a real MMORPG.

Dont buy this

Wasn't horrible while it lasted. except for some serious balance issues and lack of content. However this game was canceled. You cant play it anymore the most you will ever get to do is watch the intro so unless you need the box for your collection. I would not buy this and I can't believe they are still allowed to sell this. Want a good spaced based MMO go with EVE Online. It doesn't have much in the way of PVE content, but the PVP contents is expansive and beyond any MMO I have played. With a complete Player based economy and only a small portion of space patroled by npc's. (There are 5000 solar systems to set up shop in so even the npc petroled areas are pretty big) you don't have to be a pirate, but the danger sure makes being a trader more interesting. you really don't like danger. then you can still run missions, trade goods, and mine ore in high security space, but its not nearly as valuable.

A Solid Game!

This game is a lot of fun, especially the group activities which are very important to the game's design. A huge storyline also adds exitement to the solid gameplay. Many things are available at your disposal inclusing super beams, missile launchers, shields, engines and so on. There are many notable sights to see such as Saturn, Jupiter, Earth, the Moon, Mars, and many others. This game is tryly worth the price!

Wow was i amazed.

When I started playing the game I didn't expect much from it, but they caught me off guard. With great graphic's, game design and surprisingly great NPC interaction make this game a fun to play as well as look at. The beginning tutorial can get the even the most computer illiterate person to understand the game. If you want to play a good game that's a lot of fun I suggest you buy this game.

DO NOT BUY!

I'll keep this brief as I have many more important things to do...
SAVE YOUR MONEY! DO NOT BUY THIS OR PAY FOR THE MONTHES! Beyond level 50 or so, levelling is like pulling teeth. Exploration and trade experience can only be gained through MIND-NUMBING activities...examples: Truck-driving around the universe to gain levels at a rate of one per ten hours, litterally camping job terminals for upwards of twenty-minutes only to do nothing but point and click a destination afterward...Even combat gets boring after a while. Trust me, I've played this for monthes - after level 50 it is almost no fun.

EnB takes the multiplayer world, well out of this world. The graphics are stunning, and the gameplay, if you want it to be, can be challenging. The only drawback, and a major one at that, is that they are not allowing PvP. This prevents you from killing that jerk that swoops in and kills the mod you've been working on, and they get the credits and the loot. However, over all, the game is quite good.

Good Stuff!

I had been meaning to check the game out for a while now, but kept putting it off. A few days ago, I found out it was going to be released on Sept. 25th, and I cursed myself for not checking out the beta. So. I downloaded it Sunday afternoon, installed it later in the day. After finally getting the reg code, and setting up my character, ship and colors, I was all set. It was very cool! I played for about 10 hours straight (with the necessary breaks in between). You could do anything, and take your time learning everything. Pretty soon, I was ready to venture out, and explore more. I was shocked at how eager others were to team up, or add you to their parties. No complaining if you requested it, and no one was sitting there counting your kills, or not allowing you to loot in things you group killed. It was nice. The other thing that was cool, was not getting PK'd. From what I read, there will be PvP sectors to do all that stuff at, which it nice to know. I'm just not ready for that yet, and it's nice to know I could concentrate on getting started, before running for my life, heh. My only complaint, is the monthly charge. I know it's needed, I understand, it's just still hard to swallow. But after listneing to some of the players online, talkingabout others things you could be spending that money on (McD's, a 6-pack, a night out) it all adds up, and [amt]a month doesn't seem that bad.

E&B has good vision - always an important aspect of any story, movie or game. A good vision can make or break a game. Doubly an accomplishment since this game is not based on a series of movies or books - E&B employs relations between races of humans who have diverged down vastly different paths of development and evolution - forced by genetic manipulation and science in some cases, and a natural progression in others.

The mission based aspect of the game is fun and offers its own set of rewards but it isn't the only aspect of the game. The non-linear nature of the game, unknowns yet to unfold and mysterious races flying about make it both exciting and a little un-nerving at times (nothing like seeing a flight of alien ships swoop by not unlike a biker gang passing your station wagon on some highway in the Midwest - a little un-nerving).

All the races have strengths and weakness and a core set of skills (some skills are race-restricted) - all this comes together as you team up with different races in guilds or on specific missions allowing your different playing styles to mesh forming a stronger coalition. While there is no way - at the moment - to build new devices, trade items, etc, you can learn `recipes' for specific existing items (weapons, ammo, equipment, etc) and produce superior quality items for use or re-sale. Different races have difference build skills so again, this fosters working with the other races to get the best of the best and maximize your potential.

Neither trade, exploration or combat takes a front seat to any other experience class in the game - each play their role in providing you with different skills and levels of skills. I've often been surprised by what someone else has been able to do simply by working to extend knowledge in a single skill area above all else.

The E&B server set up is a good setup for a game like this. While lag can still be a problem on some of the more popular systems (Sol:Earth for instance) its not unexpected for a `galaxy' server which handles 2800 users at the same time. EA has taken this into account making several servers available (I live on Galileo but can create new characters on the other galaxies if I wish although I can't move my characters between galaxies).

The characters in the game can be engaging - some of the core characters actually have voice-over's for their dialog and we're not talking cheesy acting either (one even sounds like Kathleen Turner - WooWoo).

With EA talking about real-time changes happening to the universe (star systems being swallowed by a black hole or super nova, new gates to uncharted systems, etc) and an evolving story line which you are immersed in as soon as you make your first flight out of the space station (aliens seem to be encroaching on known space from an unknown phenomina) you immediately become your character and start piloting your ship as if it were your livelihood and your only oasis in uncertain and vast world.

Good but.....

While this game has it's strong points that I'm sure many other people will point out, it does have some drawbacks.

The one that comes to mind for me after playing the beta for a few weeks is that it doesn't bring the players together. Don't get me wrong it's a kick[en] game, it just seems more like a single player game with chat to me. You do get some extras by forming a group with other players while on maps, but as long as you're on the same map as them you will have those extras no matter where you are, so your group can be spread out along the entire map fighting different things and you still get your bonuses. This just seems wrong to me. I would get this game if it was stand alone because like I said it is a good game, the visuals are absolutely stunning and the missions are fun most of the time. Some missions are tedious, tedious like travel from one end of the galaxy to another then back for your reward tedious. Also the movement messed up when I switched maps for me, I would have to fly forward for a while till my ship detached itself from whatever invisible thing it was stuck on opon loading the map but thpse wouldn't stop me from having fun with the game.

Personally I think this is a great single player game, but not worth the extra fees per month. Like I said to me the MMORPG part is pretty much glorified chat, and I can get that for free.

Hmmm, well-

I am afraid I judged this too quickly. I originally gave this game 4 stars and a positive review. I must recant my earlier statements and rating. I still give this 3 stars because it is a good way to blow time while waiting for Star Wars Galaxy.

I must say that the missions are good. But with out Player Vs. Player (PvP) this game gets old fast. You spend hours warping through space on missions and talking with NPCs. Again the missions are good, but I also like the ability to spring out on my own and take part in Guild Conflicts. This game does have guilds, but what good are they if you cant really threaten the others?

Ok - I won't be too negative, but this is not a game for everyone. If you enjoy a passive gaming experience where you can team up with other players to complete missions - then buy this. However if you want the ability to experience "Real" conflict with fellow players or AI governments, this is not for you.
