Megaman64 is a whole new game. The original megaman was fun but I like the 3-D versions better. This game revolves around diggers and the hunt for the legendary Mother Lode. The game's targeting system and gameplay is somewhat similar to The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. The graphics are a too much alike with the Playstation version. That is probbaly it's biggest con.
The game's story is a little too kiddish it doesn't go as deep as some RPGS. I would put this in a Action/Adventure category rather than an RPG. This game is like most megaman games are.
But if you want a deep plot and perfect gameplay I also recommend Ocarina of Time or Donkey Kong64. Don't get me wrong this is a good game but Capcom didn't give it a deep enough plot. Searching for the Mother Lode is challenging and the enemies are extremely hard but it needs a deeper plot. This game is more of a hit and run game rather than solving puzzles.
To progress you need to buy plenty of Buster Parts. You also need to buy more health pieces, you start out with five but you can buy more. I don't know what the limit it is but I'm sure you can buy over ten. I have only beaten Bomb Boone and Tron Boone but that's only because I've been working on Majora's Mask( the second Zelda game for the N64). If your a hit and run type gamer this game is perfect for you but if your like me and you like puzzles and fighting get Ocarina of Time. I mainly have Action/Adventure and RPG games. They are the best type of games in my opinion so check this out at your local Blockbuster and if you like it buy it and if you don't check Ocarina of Time it is a Must Have. I admit I like Zelda better but this game is still a classic game if your a RPG Action/Adventure collector like me buy it today or tomorrow. Well I hope you like it. Oh yeah check some of my other reviews I've written one for just about every RPG on this website.
Before I finish this review here's a list of other good Action/Adeventure RPG games.
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask
Donkey Kong 64
Star Fox 64
Super Mario 64
Gex enter the Gecko
Gex:3 deep cover Gecko
the funny the about the gex games is they have gex1 and gex3 but no gex2
Banjo Kazooie
and Banjo Tooie
Well I hope my review was helpful.
P.S. check out Megaman Zero for Game Boy Advance..
Okay storyline and sound, but poor graphics and controls.

STORY: 2.5
Not too bad. Not too good, either. Essentially, you're a futuristic treasure hunter (a "digger") who crash-lands on an island and saves the inhabitants from pirate invaders. (Did I mention that you are ten years old?) The story doesn't get any better until much later in the game, when you start exploring subgates and especially at the very end.
CONTROLS: 1
Bad. Really bad. Consider this: in practically every 3-D platformer on Nintendo 64, you use the control stick to go forward, backward, left, and right. Well, not this one. On this one, you use the control stick to go forward and backward, or turn in circles. You use R and Z to go left and right. Now, you can eventually get the hang of this. However, once you do get the hang of it, it is incredibly simplistic. There really is no variation. None of the rolls, slides, or special jumps that you'll see in Super Mario 64 or Donkey Kong 64. Just plain running and jumping.
More odd controls: the action button is C-down, not the beloved A of many other platform-style games. To aim at enemies, you press R and Z simultaneously, a combination so contrived and inconvenient that I choose to ignore it altogether. To use your primary weapon, you press B, which is fine, but to use your secondary weapon, you use C-left, which is just plain odd. You get the idea.
GRAPHICS: 1.5
Antiquated, low-quality graphics. There are some SNES games that have comparable graphic quality. Everything is very low-resolution. Especially odd is the way you can see behind walls whenever you turn in the opposite direction. It is atypical of an N64 game, and I don't really like it.
SOUND: 3.5
Not bad. The music is appropriate and well done. I especially like the Main Gate music. This is one of the few console games that actually has speech. All important character speech is actually audible. Unfortunately, it is not of very high quality. This means that, for example, the huge segments of monologue at the end of the game, although they are very interesting and contribute immensely to the storyline, are practically inaudible. Still, if you turn your volume way up for the speech segments and back to normal for everything else, you should be able to understand most of it.
REPLAYABILITY: 3
Even once you complete the game, there are plenty of subquests to engage on and many items to find. Also, there are two hidden modes (hard mode and easy mode) to play once you beat the game on the standard mode. It's not something that I'd play over and over again, but it's definitely a keeper.
OVERALL: 2
Good points are sound, decent replayability, and a so-so storyline. Bad points are horrible graphics and controls. If you are looking for a good platformer, try something else. But if you already have all the major titles in the genre and are just looking for a few hours of new entertainment, MegaMan 64 is not a bad choice. It should last about eight to ten hours your first time through, and maybe another fifteen or twenty hours of replayability. Although the graphics and controls certainly interfere with gameplay, it's still a very playable game.
pretty good

This game is great but the bosses could've been harder and the graphics could've been better. But other than that Megaman is easy to move around and has cool weapons.
Sad Disappointment

I've been a hard-core gamer since the days of Intellivision, and this release is BY FAR the most disappointing video game purchase I have ever made. I loved all of the NES and Super Nintendo Mega Man games. The strategy was simple: a lot of really hard gaming sequences in which you acquired a special weapon or power that you would need later.
I guess Capcom was trying to come up with a Zelda-esque plot line, but this is childish ... and an insult to the Mega Man fan base. Capcom should have created some more mature levels emulating the Super Mario 64 level designs. Instead, they wasted a lot of time on infantile dialogue sequences and shockingly weak graphics. This product was thrown together to sell solely on the name of Mega Man. It is a disgrace.
A real dissapointment

I have played all the opther mega man games, and i liked them all. this game is not only a disgrace to the mega man series but it is one of the worst n64 games i have ever played. yes, it is 3d unlike most of the other mega man games, but you will stop liking it quickly, the dialouge is moronic, controls just don't work... i could go on and on....
Mega Man! :o)

OK, Mega Man 64 is about as much to traditional Mega Man games as Orciana Of Time was to traditional Zelda games and Mario 64 was to traditional Mario games, and Castlevania 64 was to traditional Castlevania games. Which means if you liked what they did with those, youll probably find this remake to be a must-have as well. Mega Man looks normal as ever, but you run around like Zelda and blast the heck out of giant robots. You dont get their weapons when you beat them, but rather you find weapons and items to make weapons out of. When you have the best weapons and items the game gets really fun cuz you can kick some giant robot butt. :)
An all-new style of Mega Man

Mega Man 64 is a great game. There are hundreds of weapons, thousands of items and millions of secrets. Albeit some of the weapons are dull (splash mines) but others more than make up for them (shining laser!!). Even little things are secerets, from Dark Mega Man to hidden parts. The storyline isn't much and the dialauge is simple, but the gameplay is awesome! I hear many people complaining about the graphics, too. They're none the worse than any other N64 graphics. And for those of you who think camera angles are obstructing your gameplay, here's a tactic: circle straefe. Hold Z and right or R and left and there you have it. no problem.

I first played this summer 2001, my nephu had rented it. He had got bored with it and I mindlessly started playing it. At first, I thought it was confusing and I hated it, but I kept playing it and I got more and more fun. Well, It's March 25, 2002 8:53 pm and I still think it's fun.
Graphics:
The graphics could be better. I don't mean they're as bad as the Adin Cronicles *shudders* but they could be better. 3 stars
Sound:
The sound is pretty good, the music isn't too good but it's not horrible. 3 stars
Gameplay:
The controls can be hard to get the hang of. 3 stars
Lasting Appeal:
As I said, It's a hard game to get tired of. 5 stars
Over all: I think this game is wonderful 5 stars

this is one great game. Nothing like the originals, but its great. Mega Man and Roll are in the game, but they look totally different. Mega Man is a digger which is someone who goes into caves and looks for crystals and stuff. Roll gives you advice and stuff. Also, there is roll's grampa, Barrel Casket. they are looking for the mother lode, which is some sorta special; treasure. There is lots of room to explore, and if you search you can find parts for roll to use to make you arm weapons like mines. and you use your megabuster. there are lots of mazes to navigate which are challenging, and the boss battles are pretty tough. you can talk to all kinds of people and donate money to the town. Note: Megaman is a boy, not a robot. buy this game. P.S. the old meganman games do not stink they are classics
