I have played adventure games for 23 years, and have never enjoyed one as much as Asherons Call (AC). It submerges you into a beautiful world of color, adventure, lore and excitement!
The game is so deep because you have hundreds of places to go. literally hundreds of dungeons, monsters, castles, mountains to explore and conquer (alone or with friends!) The fact you can own a house and storage, and belong to a guild with a mansion makes even better, because you can equip and prepare for any type battle. Wear different armor. Cast spells and 'blow things up' for fun and exciting treasure. A+
This game is the best!!!

I love AC. Different types of chars. And you can design your own character template even! I've been playing for over a year, and my husband has for 3 years. The Devs come up with new story lines and changes often. There is an update every month. There really isn't a partiacular type of char that it favors, different chars have their advantages against different types. We pay $9.95 a month and it is well worth it. In fact we are condsidering a third account. You can have 5 chars per account.
Nothing else compares.. yet

I've been playing for a year now, and am still addicted! AC may not have the best in graphics at this time (untill AC-2) but no other online gaming experiences offers the monthly updates and evolving story line like AC does... to me, that in itself makes it most worthy of my gaming time =)I would recommend this game to anyone of any age.. great time lapser.

Though it hasn't come out yet, this game is going to help sovle the current AC player's wishes with houses, A new island, and much more. This deserves a look into!

The DARK MAJESTY expansion pack is everything one could hope that an expansion pack could be. New monsters, new dungeons, a new island, several first rate quests, housing, new items, new garments. The list of reasons to get this expansion is just overwhelming.
Before the expansion, many of my friends in the game (I play on HG and am a member of the Fight With Honor [FWH] fellowship) were experiencing some burn out and boredom with AC. Now, virtually everyone I know has had their interest in AC completely revitalized. Moreover, many players who had temporarily left to play Dark Age of Camelot, have returned instead to play AC: DM.
With the exception of the new Elari Wood bow, the developers got just about everything right (and there are indications that the bow will be fixed in future monthly updates). The quests are varied, numerous, and produce items that are highly desirable. They are also very funny. Just one example is the Crop that one can get off a character one has to defeat on the northern part of the new island. If you have the requisite staff level to be able to assemble the crop parts(easy for me with a base staff level of 343), you end up with a Crop that casts Discipline and Obedience. If you kill a character named Ralilrea, you get a figurine you can take to an extremely diminuative Hea with attitude who will reward you with a skill point when you hand in the figurine. But if you do a second figurine, he will call you a liar and teleport you to Dryreach! There are several new and superb monsters, as well as several new Olthoi types, including Brood Nobles and Eviscerators.
Although a lot of people love to complain about Turbine, I think most of us (with the exception of some archers) will agree that with this expansion pack, Turbine hit a home run.

I love spending "down-time" after a long day at work hanging around town chatting with friends, or heading out on a quest for magical items. Nothing cures cold-weather cabin fever better than a romp across the wide open areas in the land of Dereth.
I have been playing Asheron's Call since the original release and every member of my family has a character of their own. We have to ration computer time...even with the 5 year-old.

How could this game only get 4 stars??

If you haven't yet played this game and are worried about the 4 star rating, ignore the rating! This game is a 5 star game easily! Note that some of the ratings were made over a year ago and this game changes every month! I rarely experience lag, but I connect with high speed DSL. I have also played Ultima Online, (That game invented the term lag... This game has never ever lagged to the proportions of UO) The best part of ACDM, is the constant fun you have. It IS addictive, but in a FUN way, unlike Everquest which is the game you HATE while you are addicted to it. I mainly play solo and have a few great characters. If you buy this game go ahead and pal around in the beginning to get the basics of the game... but remember to do the math when hunting. How much experience per hour are you making? The masses are wrong! Don't follow the masses! That's all I will say about that ;) And when making your character template... Specialize Melee Defense and your weapon of choice. IE Archer. That's enough to make sure you can't gimp yourself too bad. Graphics are dated in most areas, but in no way inteferes with gameplay believe it or not.
THE ORIGINAL GAME ROCKS! AND THE EXPANSION WOULD BE BETTER!!
