Absolute, unmitigated rubbish.

It's no prettier than Dark Forces, and the levels aren't as complicated. Play the original Quake instead. It has more realistic weapons and far scarier opponents. In fact, to find less intelligent enemies, you have to return to games played in 16kB of RAM with no hard disk. Yes, it really is that bad. It would be a tragic waste of the time taken to install it and set up your keys. Do not waste your money buying this game.

Remember Jar-jar Binks? This is worse.

Crashing Disappointment

One of the best PC games ever (Deus Ex) has been ruined in a lame-ass console port sequel. The maps are tiny because they were simultaneously developed for XBox, which only has 64 Meg of Ram. Similarly, the outdoor environments are claustrophobic, and there's never many characters onscreen at any one time. The text is HUGE (again, lame-ass console port) and the gameplay has been dumbed down. The story is interesting, but so many off-topic journeys are possible that you completely lose track of the through-line. Buy CHROME instead, the awesome and exciting sci-fi PC shooter which is the game INVISIBLE WAR should have been.

Over the last week I've played the demo of Deus Ex 2, many times may I add, every time the feel is wrong, the graphics are good better than some I've seen in recent months, and my specs are only a Amd 2100xp G4 4600 128, 512 of 2100 DDR ram, Windows ME, the game runs fine no slow ups or glitches, but the major factor is the feel I didn't expect it to be the same but they've changed it into a first person shooter with extra abilities how many slots for items? not nearly enough.

Not clear enough interface it justs gets complicated and at points it has become obstructing, it catches your eyes too much you end up having to learn tunnel vision to get anything done.

I can only judge this by the demo, it put you in the middle of the story with nowhere to go its short and you get confused unless you've read some background to the game and watched the intro movie.

What was with the stopping of guns in the bar just because I have weapons doesn't mean I'm going to use them, and since when can't we use a batton or club I'm resorted to throwing bottles acros the room? all I get is "stop that or I'll" you'll what.

If I had a bottle in the face in real life I wouldn't go "stop that" if I was consious after a geneticaly altered Special Agent through a wine bottle in my face, I get help, call the police or do something. I tried throwing loads of bottles the bar ran out before something happened,

Alcohol has no aparent affect on the body in the demo you just see a green yellow colour and thats it.

What happened with buying drinks over the counter and getting sloshed.

I must admit though the betting basement was good for all who have played you will know what I mean, as well as the Music boxes they were good.

But until I play the full game I wont know if you can go into a bar with a gun or batton or get drunk or walk into a ladies room and get shouted at.

Oh well we will see.

Great Game!

I've played the first few hours of this game and can happily report that I am having a blast with all the possibilities and options that it offers. It's been distilled down to what really counts, and that's the multiple solutions and emergent gameplay that made the first one so engaging. The weapons and biomods in this one rock! The interface takes a little getting used to, but now I like it. I'm running it at 800x600 with an AMD 1.7XP/NVidia Ti200 and it runs smooth for me!

great game with stability issues

Invisible War is a truly fun and original FPS. You get a lot of entertainment value for your money. The game is long and the story is interesting (confusing sometimes, too!). The graphics and gameplay are top-notch. You are afforded unlimited game saves, which is super convenient. As you progress through the game, there are many story paths you can take. This makes the game more enveloping and interesting.

Why do people insist on comparing this game to the original Deus Ex? I have no idea. It's a different game, and it's equally as good, just different. I'm sure those same people will hate Half-Life 2 as well...because it will be different than the original Half Life.

This game has stability issues when running in Windows XP, even when fully updated. It crashes to the desktop, and hangs occasionally. THIS IS ANNOYING!

Overall, it's definitely a worthwhile game. The stability issue prevents this sequel from becoming one of the all-time greats (yes, it really IS that annoying).

What happened?

I had so much anticipation for this game, and like most everyone who played Deus Ex 1 could not wait for this. But what happened? Well I don't know but this just isn't the sequel to Deus Ex that I was hoping for.
First off Alex Brandon's soundtrack to DX 1 was the best of any game I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. It was perfect for the game but it is just a let down here. They also did the unthinkable by taking away the points system. The levels are too small as well, and where in DX 1 there were so many ways of advancing in a level, IW is pretty straight forward comparitively speaking. This game was a total let down for me and as much as I wanted to love it, after beating it several times I just couldn't. And Gameplay? What gameplay? If you are thinking about buying it and really loved Deus Ex 1 you might want to skip it.

I was, and am, a big fan of the original Deus Ex. Even now, years after its original release, I still consider it to be a great game (in today's standards). Dont get me wrong, Deus Ex was by no means a perfect game, but it is one of the best you'll ever find.

However, after playing the demo, it is obvious that Deus Ex: Invisible War doesnt live up to the original. In fact, the game in general is in many ways steps down from the original. It is as if Deus Ex is the sequel to this game. Thats how much they have "dumbed down" the series. For those who played the original, remember the ATM hacking in the game? They took away that ATM interface, now its all a stat check. Remember hacking security consoles and see those little side by side camera feeds? Now we have an interface with a few lines of text (very big fonts). Headshots no longer kills. All weapons uses the same ammo type (pistol ammo = shortgun's = rocket launcher's = taser/riot prod's). No skills system. Inventory interface that doesnt allow the use of mouse (yet another indication of the developers favoring designs for the XBox).

Imagine my suprise, confusion, and eventual disappointment when I sneak up behind a guard and used the taser on his neck like I did in the original, just to find out it takes more than 10 seconds to stun the guy. This is just one of many "features" (in addition to those mentioned above). I am sure you'll find more.

This game is designed for console gameplay. It is actually more like a poorly translated port of the XBox version than a PC game sequel.

Dont take my word for it. Try the demo. Read the posts in numerous message boards and see what other people think. The majority agrees with the fact that this is a big disappointment. Being such a big fan of the original (like most who posted their thoughts online regarding this game), nobody is more unhappy than I was at the fact this sequel is such a big let down. I wish it could have been better. I have waited for a DX sequel since before it was a rumor, when I finished the game for the very first time. But reality is cruel.

Chances are, the XBox version will be fine. Since this game is essentially made for it. It wont be as good as the original, but it will be fine. But the PC version is simply unjustified. Buy this game at your own risk.

Eidos and Ion Storm ruins an impossible to ruin sequel.

Deus Ex 1 was perfect and still stands as one of the best games ever (if you can overlook the outdated graphics). How did they go wrong with this? They had the perfect blueprint from the original game and screwed it all up by dumbing the gameplay down for a simultaneous console release (even after Warren Spector said he wouldn't dumb down the gameplay).

The environments are much smaller this time around, damage system is lousy (at v. 1.0, a hit anywhere on an enemy did the same damage).

My biggest gripe is the original was a very realistic Scifi FPS with meticulous ammunition management and yet in the sequel we get universal ammo and weapons that don't even need to be reloaded. It's like they're stepping backwards.

Another cruddy element is the idle stance the characters have. It doesn't look natural. Every character when idle stands like a 3D character that hasn't been rigged yet with their arms a foot from their sides.

The music was yet another step back for the series as well. There were no memorable themes (aside from the title and opening movie) and they ditched dynamic music which I loved in the original game (when you snuck around unnoticed, one song played, and when you were in combat, another higher tempo and more action packed variation segued in).

Finally, it's a minor element, but I also miss the camera bob from the original game. It made the camera movement feel more natural and once again is a step backwards for the series. I hope Eidos is paying real close attention to these negative reviews when they develop DX3.

Played the demo and saved myself $40

The graphics in this game aren't all that much of an improvement, but the game is incredibly choppy. Did Eidos use the UT2003 enging? I doubt it. I'm saving up to buy the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra, so Deus Ex 2 had better not be choppy at all. I've got a fast pc with a gig of PC3200 ram, so when I buy and install the 5700 Ultra, I'd better see 30 fps or more, or there is something seriously wrong with this game's engine.

Good first person shooter. Story line has some references to story in Deus Ex. You should first play Deus Ex, if possible.
