Basically I was dissapointed by this game, after being a huge fan of the original there was a great deal of anticipation, sadly however the game did not live up to my expectations. I blame this on its joint Xbox/PC origins and the fact the game had been over simplified. This dumbing down was my main cause of irritation. However I suggest for all those who bought Deus Ex 2 they should go to www.dx2rebirth.off2picproduction.com to get the high quality skins.
To be fair to the developers its hard to perfect perfection, and the original Deus Ex will always remain a genre defining masterpiece. In short only buy this game if you have finished Deus Ex and still want more from the same universe.
Finally played it.

I finally got around to playing this and I still had fun even though I think Deus-Ex was better.
Make sure you video card is up to the task. I had basic cards and they would not work. Needed to upgrade anyway as the graphic levels are way more intense these days.
I like the idea of Alex Denton but I think the roleplay aspects could have been a little better. In the first one I was concerned about Paul, took a liking to Tracer Tong but in this one I really didn't care about anybody. The closest interesting exchange was probably NG Resance but that only went so far. Also, I didn't get the feeling of are they are friend or foe as much as I did in the first game.
The story line is ok. The intro was interesting. However, as desperate as one group was to destroy Chicago, they really didn't try it again. A nice "hateful" scenario would have been a race against the clock to get at a bomb.
You have factions again especially a new one called the Omar. In one possible ending they could take over the earth. However, if they are planning that, they probably would have been more involved then simply selling blackmarket stuff in the allyways and backrooms.
Another aspect was that maps in this game seemed smaller then I remember from the first one. You could cover an area in no time.
The weapons are ok. However, the special weapons are interesting. However, the placement of some seemed to be along the lines of "hey isn't this cool? Let's insert it somewhere" Some weapons you can really do without(the stun prod and the club). The weapons mods are plentiful so if you used a glass buster on a pistol. You can still mod a better one down the road.
The biomods are ok. The best part are the black market biomods. There are enough of them so if you try something, you can trade it out if you don't like it. However, I might point out there were not any really noticeable tradeoffs. The jumping biomod is pretty well useless as the wall climbing ability wipes it out. You have more things to throw if you want to try the strength mods but I didn't. You get the hacking mod but I found it was too easy to hack stuff. The mode to control guns was ok but not really needed.
One aspect that made attacking a little to easy was the drone mods. You can create a drone that shoots tranks. If you have enough charge ups, you can use a black market biomod that delivers modified EMP blasts that take down humans as well as robots. This made robot fighting more of a delay then a hassle.
Finally, watch your multitools as you need 6 of them at the end of the game and I didn't find many at that point.......
There is an easter-egg ending. Note the flag at the old unatco building. Take it to the old leaders bathroom and flush the toilet. Do save your spot as you have to reload to continue the game.
It's not the great game but it's hardly bad. Hopefully, the next installment will have better interaction, better side-quests as they seem indirectly part of the story rather then space fillers.
The name "Deus Ex" should not be part of its title

When viewed apart from the would-be Deus Ex franchise, this is an OK game. Not one I'm really glad I bought, but not overly horrible to play either. It feels like a console game that's been ported to PC.
But, since they did tout this as a sequel to the first DX, I think all and any comparative criticisms are valid. Basically, this game lacks so much of the depth, intelligence, and COMPLEXITY of the first game, I can't bring myself to keep playing it. It's like they didn't have any clue why the first one was so endearing to most of its fan base.
I'll be sticking to the occasional nostalgic return to playing the first title once in a while. Playing this one just makes me sad.
A sequal thats far from equal

The first Deus Ex was an extremely fun game to play. I had high hopes for the sequal but while some of the new physics (ragdoll effects) were a nice change, the interface changes were a turn for the worse. It felt like a console game and for me thats a big negative. I don't really care to see the inventory screen on top of everything and I don't see why they had to dumb down the handling of ammunition and lockpicks. It was obviously designed with a minimum of controls in mind but is that neccessarily an improvement. I don't think so. What happened to the days when a game was redesigned to be ported to console?
Even all the conspiracies in the plot seemed somewhat less interesting in this game. Overall though it was entertaining and while maybe not worth the full price at its release, if you can find it cheap it's a worthwhile buy. If you have to choose though and you don't own the original, buy that one instead.
Worth a look, but a bit patronising.

I loved Deus Ex so I'm trying to not be biased. This game is worth playing: parts of it are great. The Bot mind control, the in flight controllable missles, and the way you pick up optional tasks on the way through the game.
I didn't mind the universal ammo or the lack of skill advancement. The graphics/design/music was average. The storyline was a bit hacky, but fine.
What I didn't like about this game was the difficulty setting. The first level was fun, but by the end of it I had all of the mods and practically all of the weapons. Difficulty had peaked. After that it was just a case of keep finding ammo. With most games you end up hoarding equipment and ammo, saving up grenades for big baddies. In DX2 you've got so much of everything, you don't need to bother. Nothing is really hidden from you, and you don't have to search much.
It plays like the designers don't want you to ever feel in difficulty, they have made all of the interfaces dead simple. they don't want to burden you with character development or having to tell between different types of ammo (or even having to reload between clips), they've made sure you'll never run out of anything or get stuck with out a key (there's always a grating to go through two steps to your left).
I find this very odd as the best thing about the first Deus ex was the unguided open-ness of it. It was a challenge and you had to make some difficult choices about who you were and who you were going to tackle the challenges ahead.
My girlfreind played it through first and warned me how easy it was, so I played it on the hardest setting. But even with that it wasn't any kind of challenge. For more serious gamers may I suggest seeing if you can play the whole game through without installing a single bio mod.
It's still got more to it than your typical storyless First person shooter, so it's still worth a play.
Opting out - - -

It didn't meet my expectations, not after the original, but I enjoyed it just the same, that is until it came to the end, Liberty Island... I could not find any resolution that suited me. Not liking any of the choices I was left with, a real disappointment, I made my own ending, finishing by going out on one of the docks of Liberty Island and then just closing everything, removing it from our computer and leaving the results of my final actions to my own imagination... I enjoyed the game along the way but in the end felt cheated...
Not a true sequel

The differences between Invisible War (which hereafter I'll refer to simply as 'IW') and its predecessor are staggering to those who played and loved the first game, which makes it nigh on impossible for Deus Ex fans to enjoy this. Their loss, because this is still an extremely entertaining romp through the leather-obsessed near future, and if you can approach IW as an individual game rather than a sequel then you will not be disappointed.
The game takes place in a dystopian world, a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Throughout the course of the story you'll have the opportunity to discover all the factions and play them off against one another, being able to choose to show your true allegiance or keep your motives shrouded to the characters you encounter. As a cybernetically-enhanced agent, you can 'upgrade' your physical attributes with bio-mods, picking which to concentrate on and through that channelling your playing style down a specific route, a familiar concept to any RPG player.
Getting down to the basics, the modified Unreal 2 engine still looks pretty today and can let off some impressive lighting effects. Your interaction with the world is rather expansive - on the same level as Deus Ex; the dialogue and plot is not on the same level - although Deus Ex sometimes ventured into the realm of the grandiose it managed to maintain an engaging narrative and characterisation was improved by some talented writing, and IW is a few IQ points down on its older brother.
Nonetheless, IW has some reason to stand tall, for one I'm happy to say that combat is a very slick affair, not comparable with the newest and brightest stars of first person shooters but more than adequate, a trump card over its predecessor's clunky approach.
To someone who has never played Deus Ex, or to someone who is content with starting IW without a multitude of hopes and preconceptions, this is an immensely satisfying first person RPG that hits more than it misses, and will undoubtedly pull you in to its cramped but well made world.
Second only to the original Deus Ex

When I read about the previews to this new Deus Ex, I was skeptical. I really thought it was going to be a dog. But, being such an extreme fan of the original, I was still looking forward to how it would be. I was especially irked by the removal of the skill system, a system that I thought made the game more like an RPG instead of just a first person action adventure game. After I played it, I was very impressed. It looks graphically stunning, has even more player freedom than the first Deus Ex, and even more endings. I loved playing through this game. It is a bit easier than the first one, but still squarely in the right range of difficulty to maintain my interest, but not make me too frustrated that I get killed in the same area over and over.
In the final analysis, this is a spectacular game much like the first, but the original Deus Ex is still my favorite game of all time.

Having a computer that far surpases the minimum requirements for adequate game play, it was very dissapointing to find that the game locks up every time it is started. Eidos help people were very friendly but always blamed the problem on my equipment and not on the program. Three trips to their helpers and upgrading drivers and adding patches did nothing to make the game play. Only the phantom knows whether this game is good or not. It is unplayable for many users and a waste of money.
Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so excited to get this game for christmas...
Unfortunately, I did not read the fine print on the back of the box.
Heck I bought this computer less than a year ago, should run the game right?
WRONG!!!!
This game is VERY selective about the graphic cards it will play on. Unfortunately, I now have a $40.00 coaster... or I can invest in a new card.
I am wiser now, I won't buy an Eidos game anytime soon.
