"We was robbed" is right

The review titled "We was robbed" is so true. The graphics are fuzzy-looking, and the movement is erm, weird? It's hard to explain, it has nothing to do with the hardware either. I have a GeForce FX 5900 on an AMD 2600+. It's not 'choppy', but it's weird. I'm going to return this to the store and beg them for my money back. I will then re-install the original Deus Ex and play it all over again. This game is awful! Seriously, I'd rather be forced to see "Dude where's my car" ten times in a row than play another hour of this godawful game.

Buyer beware

Unless you want to spend big bucks on some state of the art video card, don't bother with this game. Be aware that the hardware requirements are entirely misleading.

A nice game, "BUT"...

...there are too many "but's" for it to be a worthy successor for Deus Ex.
The Plot is nice and the Atmosphere is very much like Deus Ex 1, BUT the game is just too short. The graphic is nice, BUT is is buggy (and I happen to have a GeForce Ti4200 running on my system. With Envidia slapping their sticker on the package of DE:IW, one could expect this game to work well on one of their own chipsets, especially since Deus Ex was one of the most stable, bug-free games I have known in the last 5 years) and slow (hope developers will finally STOP handing out sloppy conversions of X-"Micro$oft"-Box games, which never, ever seem to run properly.)
The locations are - small. Deus Ex had huge locations, but DE:IW features places that inspire claustrophobia at best (which is strange considering that terrain is one of the biggest strengths of the new Unreal-Engine), which also means that there is no way one can crawl unseen around guards and bots - there is just not enough space.

Character development - oi! Biomods are more imortant now, and they are kinda nice, but that is wehere it ends. No more skill points, no more customization, nix, nothing, nada. Embarrassing.
Controls - look at the other reviews, I do not want to talk about them. It possibly has got something to do with converting games and not investing any mindwork into the specific needs of a PC-Game.
All in all, this game is nice, but nothing more. One can play it, but as opposed to Deus Ex, one will not miss anything when spending one's money on something else. It is justified that this game is not called Deus Ex 2, because this is not a sequel playing in the same league as its predecessor, but rather a follow-up which cannot even hope to compete with the original.
This review was based on the full version, NOT the demo.

Flawed from the start

Yes, I'm going to compare it to the original, because sequels are supposed to be BETTER. Invisible War dissappoints sorely. I read somewhere that this is just a port from the Xbox. That could explain why the levels are so ridiculously small. The graphics ARE better than the original - with nice skin shading,
but the requirement to switch levels every few minutes got tiring.
You are given primary and secondary goals. Often the primary goals (given by different organizations) conflict. I completed some secondary goals without realizing I had them.
There are four possible endings, but none of what you do in the game actually matters until you get to near the end of the game.
There are some inconsistencies in the game, too. I could swear I heard Alex wanting to buy a "Plasma Clip" at one point, which doesn't exist. Near the end, the "communications van" turns out to be what looks like a cinder block hut.
The biomod system is flawed. At the end of the game, I had 3 each regular and black-market canisters that I couldn't use.
The lack of a skill system (or points system of any kind) means that secondary goals are completely irrelevant to the game.
It took about 9 hours to complete, primarily because I did do most of the secondary goals, and the fact it took 50 seconds to switch between level maps. Come on people, can't you take some extra memory and cache a few of those maps? I had plenty of spare RAM if you wanted to use it...
Best avoided.

Just Short of Perfection

The rumors were true: Deus Ex was the greatest game ever to grace the video/computer game market. Any attempt to follow up with a sequel would be an uphill battle. In a way, Eidos succeeded. Invisible War is slick sci-fi action RPG. The graphics are a tremendous update from the original, and the levels and characters offer greater interaction. The weapons are even more customizable, allowing you to turn a pistol into a silent glass-shattering tranq gun, or refit your Uzi to spew explosive shrapnel and use half the ammo.

However, while some aspects of the gameplay have been enhanced, others have diminished. Most notable is the storyline. While Deus Ex put forth a clear struggle of establishment vs. freedom fighters vs. secret society, Invisible War basically has you choose sides between 4 power-hungry factions, with oddly similar ideologies. There is no "for the good of the people" or "preserve the world" faction - in the end, you will be helping to put a single person or group of people in charge of the world.

However, if you go into this game looking for just an enjoyable romp, and not something to top the original, you will be in for a treat. Recommended for action enthusiasts and RPG fans.

Merry Christmas

Obviously released prematurely for Xmas, this game has more bugs and glitches than any game I've ever even heard of. The patch does nothing to fix any problems and when asked, the developers on the eidos website give answers that are borderline rude. A definite slap in the face to all gamers. It breaks my heart to think about how many kids unwrapped this Xmas morning to find that their game doesn't work because the eidos quarterly report might have suffered had they put a few more weeks into this pseudo software.

Converted Console Crap

"Deus Ex - Invisible War" is the second game after "Tomb Raider - The Angel of Darkness" Eidos completely screwed up in 2003. LEAVE IT! CANCEL YOUR PREORDERS! This game is worth zero bucks.
The graphics are far below average and the interface is worse. It's simply converted from the X-Box-Version and does not reach the possible quality of a PC-Version of the game. They took an olympic runner and - fascinated by the idea of making him faster - sawed of his legs.

patch solved virtually nothing...future of DX2 looks bleak

A patch was supposed to fix major flaws in the game, and it didn't. I'm talking of the lagginess felt when moving the mouse ingame, and the 'resyncing' DX2 does when you go to a new area or load up a game. Loading and going to new area (each area is painfully small, so this is QUITE frequent) takes around 15 seconds. Doesn't sound like much on paper, but it is unforgivably long in game. Even after the patch, there are still game crashing bugs (it also freezes my CD drive, having to restart the PC to fix).

Even if the patch actually fixed what it was supposed to, the game itself isn't engaging enough for a repeat. Universal ammo takes any fun out of trying out different guns. Sounds odd, but when it takes around only 2 sniper shots to deplete a clip compared to 15 shots of the pistol...and combine that with the fact that 2 shots to the head from the pistol is all it takes to take down most opponents...what's the use? Seriously, the only weapon I used was the pistol until the Antartic stage. Even then, I only had the pistol, SMG, and the sniper rifle (for those pesky I. Assasins...boom! to da head).

The lack of skill-based gameplay limits this as an RPG. There's only so many bio-mod combinations to choose from. And I find it silly that there's no other way to use the security console without the console hack bio-mod. Seems like the dev. were forcing the issue on us by having so many security terminals around with no other way to hack it.

I can't help but feel the game is all too console friendly, from the limited control binds, to the smaller maps, to the generic ammo and toolkits...ho-hum.

What a Waste

Too bad Eidos wasted all this time on a rush job... it's a pity they didn't take the time to debug and do it right; instead they rushed it resulting in many bugs and tied it to specific video cards. The first Deus Ex was great, albeit buggy too, but this thing is worthless. Don't buy Eidos games until they get their act together and return this if you bought it, make the retailers pressure them to fix stuff.

Not as bad as some people say it is...

I found this to be an interesting and entertaining game. Sure, a lot of fans of the original game did not get what they were looking for, but for gamers new to Deus Ex there is a lot to like.

For one, the story is much better than in most other games. Here, you can team up with any side you like and apply your view of the world to the game. It will probably take to the very end (and a few surprising turns) before you really know which way you want to go. No other game before has presented so many meaningful choices to me.

Of course, compared to Deus Ex 1, there are a number of simplifications. Unified ammo is something a lot of people do not like. It didn't bother me too much, although it is a bit odd that rocket launchers and pistols use the same ammo. The bio-mods I am not to crazy about. There are too many options to upgrade your mods and not enough meaningful choices there. But there are other aspects in the game that make up for it.

Of course at this point, the graphics engine can not quite keep up with Doom 3 or Half Life 2, but it gets the job done.
