24: Definitely The Game To Play!!!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 4 / 7
Date: February 28, 2006
Author: Amazon User

I received this game as a gift from a friend of mines who works on FOX, and played this game for about an hour or two on his PS2. And after reviewing this game, I must admit that the graphics were quite stunning, the storyline was quite amazing, and the storyline itself does indeed follow the same single-day format like it was shown on Season 2 and Season 3 on 24. The only problem was that there were many times where the storyline doesn't follow the same exact order like Season 2 and Season 3, which sometimes gets me confuse with who's what...and what was I suppose to do.

Part of the reason for this seems to be that the game only focuses on the actions of the hero-type folk, like Jack and Tony. The show, on the other hand, switches back and forth between CTU, bad guys, the President and other connected characters, which essentially buys enough time for monotonous actions for each side of the law. For example, while a group of CTU folk are traveling to scene, the show would then cut to terrorists or whoever as they plot their evildoings. Cut back five minutes later and the CTU agents have arrived. As the game doesn't (or at least hasn't yet in just over five hours) cut solely to the bad guys, there isn't any of this "good guy down time" for them to cover up.

There are a couple of early examples of this in the game. In one instance, Tony and Sean, a new analyst at CTU, are cross-referencing a list of bodies found at a location and those who were supposed to be at the scene of the crime. One name doesn't match the bodies, so Tony says that they should talk to him. The camera immediately cuts to show Jack trailing someone, which lasts about 20 seconds. The next cut shows President Palmer on-screen at a live press conference, which lasts about five seconds, and then you see that Tony is watching this feed in his car as he's pulling up to talk to the suspect. In other words, it only took 25 seconds for Tony to get from the inside of CTU, into his car and then drive to his destination....which makes this game quite "odd" and "unreal."

To me, I believe that the designers are not taking to seriously of the realism of the game, but rather just wanted to speed up the pacing of the game. It does work to keep things moving, but it's a bit of a change from what you'd expect to see on the show, which is somewhat odd considering how closely other aspects of the presentation matches the program.

Despite that controversy, there are some good things about this game (obviously). The most impressive thing I found so far is how well the cut-scenes match the show's cinematography. There's a hand-held quality to them, plenty of zooms, tight focus shots and such that really match the work on the show. Some of the in-game conversations are a little more generic and videogame-like, but the preset, directed stuff I've seen so far is great. It's one of the things that makes the show seem so urgent and chaotic (which is a great thing), and the game has done well so far in matching that feel. The characters also look rather excellent and very closely resemble their real life counterparts.

But overall, to not bore you to death, this game is totally awesome, and is a must have for all 24 fans. I would definitely recommend buying this game, if not...at least renting it. It's a really cool game to play and very easy game to beat. Overall, I'll give this a 8.5/10!

a solid game graphics and story wise.

this game nails the shows presentation to a t. like i said in the title the graphics and story are very good. that combined with the voice acting and presentation make this game a lot better than it really is. it's a little on the short and simple side. i found i enjoyed it the more i got into it. it combines several gameplay styles. some are good and some are not so good(driving). but the shooting levels and sniper level is a blast. if you're a fan you can't go wrong with this game. if not maybe a rent would be better to see how you might like it. overall though the positives outweigh the negatives and will keep you hooked til the end.

Awesome

This game is awesome. I bought and it reminds me of the show exactly. The graphics are the best I've ever seen. I feel like I'm right there next to Jack, and Tony fighting in a race against time. The game is challenging but not to challenging you can't beat it. It has a lot of action packed levels with a lot of options. You'll really want to get this game. It's definatley worth it.

Kim's Been Kidnapped...AGAIN

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

I have to admit that despite the good reviews this game was getting, I had my doubts. Perhaps it was due to the relentlessly BAD games that were spawned from television shows. Well, I am happy to report that I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised. 24:The Game does in fact follow closely to the show and you could actually believe that it was a lost episode. The game is designed with many of the details that fans will surely recognize; the camera work, the split screens, the dialogue, the fact that Kim got kidnapped AGAIN, etc. Voice acting is top shelf, with most of the actual actors on-board. The game also boasts good graphics (the characters actually resemble the actors for the most part) and exceptional sound effects. The game is easy to pick up and play without tedious explanations and training demos. In fact, the game kind of just drops you into the story and away you go.

The bulk of the game is dedicated to missions; some that require stealth and others where you can just blast anyone in your way. There are also several driving missions that operate in the way of any of the GTA games. Puzzles are usually tossed into the mix, most are easy to solve but some can be a bit frustrating. Thankfully, the game typically auto-saves after you complete part of the mission objective so you don't have to replay the levels from the beginning, thus reducing the frustration associated with similar games. Many of the missions are timed so it is often difficult to explore the surrounding area but to be honest, there isn't much to find. Each mission is wrapped up with your stats and believe me, it isn't always easy to get a high score. If you manage to accomplish this, you will accumulate various unlockables which are usually videos and character animation (not real sure what that was all about) but they aren't required to enjoy the actual game play.

Load times are decent and there is virtually no lag as your character moves from one area to another. The game is fast-paced and you will play not only as Jack Bauer but as tech support, other CTU members and even the bad guys on occasion. Overall, a good game that holds your interest and also holds true to the show. Replay value is fairly decent as the game is relatively long and to improve your overall ratings to obtain unlockables. If you are a fan of the GTA games, The Godfather, Scarface, etc., then this will be right up your alley.

Not Fantastic but not a total disapointment either

24 the game gets called a disapointing game based on a tv series. I don't think it's fair to be called a complete disapointment though. As a 24 fan I must say that some things are pretty cool. I like how the villian is voiced by Christian Kane (Lindsey in Angel) and looks exactly like him too. Since the show itself usually always has recognizeable main villians. I think the interigation mode is challenging and well done as well. Plus if you miss characters like Tony and Chase, it's cool that you can play as them too on certain points.

The first shooter mode is a little primative and not as good, as lets say a Rainbow Six game. Plus there's too many car chase parts when they aren't really that good to begin with. But even if some things are lame I must say that I still have a ball playing this as a 24 fan. Just to rescue CTU from terrorists, rescue Kim and facing a lot of the other dangers that Jack does on 24. I do think that a second one could be more promising though. Especially if it was released for X-Box 360 with more effort put into the shooting mode and a little more put into the gameplay as well. But one thing can't knock about the game is that it can be challenging and it isn't always easy.

Like James Bond but 20 times better

This game is great. My one complaint is sometimes the driving gets crappy and hard to manuever, but otherwise great game. Great action and such a good variety of games to play.

Depends if you are a 24 addict

This game, for me, is the greatest game of all time. However, the storyline and characters are complex if you haven't seen any of the 24 seasons (by far the greatest show that has ever existed). But if you are a fan of Jack Bauer, Tony Almeida, Chase Edmunds, Michelle Dessler, Kim Bauer, and Secret Service Agent Aaron Pierce (the playable characters), you will fall in love with this game. The graphics are amazing, the storyline is worthy of becoming a real season, but the controls are a little bit awkward. If you are dragging a body, however, in a small amount of time, you will almost murder yourself in frustration. The driving sequences are good, I don't see why the other reviewers graded it terribly, and the gun arsenal is not equaled. If you are the 24 fan that I am and have seen all or many of the four and a half seasons (why did Edgar have to die?!), go and but this game with no second thoughts. I compare it to Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, James Bond From Russia With Love, and maybe a little bit of Grand Theft Auto.

Here are the grades out of ten:

Graphics:10
Storyline:10
Controls:7.5
Driving:6
Shooting:10
Fitting Between Seasons Two & Three:11

If You Like the Show, You'll LOVE the Game

Ignore anyone who talks about this game's "shortcomings." It's a fun game, addictive game. Period.

Although one reviewer suggests that some of the levels are too easy, I say that this only goes to keep the game (and the plot) moving. In fact, let's face it, when you break the tasks down, events in a typical episode of 24 aren't that complex. You run, you hide, you shoot things. You drive fast and chase people. But you do it all, looking, sounding, and panting (yes, the video Jack Bauer even breathes like him) almost as if you were in the show. The KISS adage is fabulously apt. Keeping it simple is how the game-makers have kept it fun.

Related to this is the comment about trying to make the actual game play last 24 hours. Firstly, the show itself is a little loosy-goosey about real "hour" what with commercial breaks and its creative liberties. Secondly, each "hour" is broken up into smaller missions, and learning what it takes to do well in each section can take little time. Thirdly, those that choose to complete their missions with finesse (and higher scores) will find that they're not only coming closer the "hour," they're also having more fun, because they're acting more like the characters in the show. After all, I suppose that someone who wants to complete their missions quickly could just avoid shooting anyone, and instead just run past the enemies!

Or better yet, if that reviewer really wants to take the "24 hour" thing seriously, I'm surprised that he isn't complaining about being able to save progress to a memory card. He really ought to be asking for a game that's played straight out for an entire 24 hours, no saving, get it right the first time, just like on the show.

The graphics and story are fantastic, but the driving sequences are absolutely horrible, and the controls overall are just bad. EVERY vehicle in this game drives like a seven horsepower go cart.

Even more annoying, in my opinion, is the constant character switching. Jack Bauer is the coolest character, the character that I most enjoyed playing, but so far I've only spent 1/4 of the time in his shoes. Too much of the time is spent acting out the adventures of peripheral characters that aren't very exciting.

At this point, I'm giving it up without finishing because it's not worth it. I'm very dissappointed.

When You first pop in this game into your PS2 drive you are in for a wild ride. Taking Place between seasons's two and three. You'll find out plenty of things. Questions unanswered will be answered in this awesome game. The story takes place in LA in the life of CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) agent Jack Bauer. You will experiance the longest day of his life. It starts out at 7:00 after getting anonymous tip about a chemical Ricin aboard a ship in LA Harbor. After that you find out that this is about a much larger deal. You find out about a terrorist Peter Madsen. He plants to set off ten bombs in LA. Each causing an earthquake.

Will Jack find Madsen? Will CTU be able to stop an attack in LA?

This game has top notch graphics. Note: 2K games isn't that great at games. The gameplay is so awesome that you almost forget about the crappy driving missions that get so freakin' aggrivating that I hit the controlller on my knee. The problems with them are, in every driving mission, you are being chased by vehicles that are way more powerful than your SUV. And when you want to get a new car, like the sports car, you will have to evade traffic. It's not like the cars stop for you. This game's driving missions are no Grand Theft Auto: CTU. I got out of my car once to be hit by a car. I survived, but then a freakin' cop car hit me. Their is just one more complaint. Sometimes having a partner like Chase Edmunds is aggrivating. I'm shooting an enemy and all of a sudden Chase walks in front of me. I wap my rifle at him, causing him to die. And in the final mission it get's very glitchy. Such has aiming takes a turn for the worse. Graphics at times got choppy. Note: When you put water in a game and show it many times, make sure it looks real. This is the most awesome game based on a TV show. Did you see how crappy Futurama, and Simpsons Skateboarding were.
Jack Bauer: Awesome graphics, gameplay, really based on the show
Sherry Palmer: Choppy at times, driving missions
Sound 9
Gameplay 10
Shooting 9
Tech missions 9
Interrogation 10
Driving 4
Character Design 8 Eerie models
Overall 59
Awesome: Sequel needed. Please 2K. I won't call your games so-so anymore? Please Please, Please. I like the books too
