i probally paid for this game 5 times over renting it. a really cool game for people who like to actually think while playing. my kids also love to play if i give them a chance. my kids think its strange that i take care of patients all night then come home to build a hospital! if you like challenges, then buy it.
Very Addictive!

Let me start by stating that I am an Atari 2600 girl who does not normally like the games of "today" because I find them too complicated and too time-consuming to figure out. That is, until I found this game. For some reason, I was attracted to the title. It sounded like a fun game. When I started playing it, I found it to be not only fun but very easy to learn and quite addictive! All you use is a mouse and you can build your hospital the way you want (including restrooms, staff room complete with pool table and arcade game, soda machines, etc.), hire staff, purchase property for more rooms, etc. The higher the level you get, the more neat stuff you can build (scanners, x-ray room, operating theatre, even a hair restoration clinic) and the more obstacles you face (earthquakes, emergencies, epidemics, etc.). There are so many things to control in this game from making sure each staff member is in the proper place to shooting rats that roam your hospital. Sometimes a stomach virus will spread in the hospital and you have to hurry maintenance men to clean up the vomit (the sound effects are also a hoot). The game even keeps stats like how many times a bench or soda machine is used so you can rearrange your hospital more efficiently. I find myself playing this game for hours! Theme Hospital is definitely worth the money, but you can also buy this game as part of the "Top Ten Blue" pack for less.
For the ELITE Sim player...

This game is for video game players with BRAINS. This isnt a hack-em, slash-em, shoot anything that moves game. Hence the theme of a SIMULATOR game. Nuff on that.
This game is absolutely hysterical. Listening to the nurse page overhead with requests such as "Patients PLEASE do NOT die in the halls" and curing some of the most RIDICULOUS ailments (Like the Kings Disease-patient thinks he's Elvis Presley and you have to hire a psychiatrist to treat him) make this game an absolute MUST for those who enjoy a bit of carefree humor.
Game play is EASY with a tutorial (that can FORTUNATELY be turned off) and easy to follow instructions. This is a MUST for anyone who enjoys sim games (Sim City, The Sims, Theme Park, etc.)

This game has all the fun, pressure, & responsiblities of running a real hospital, with some great humor as well. It's one of my all time favorite PC games, a game I could play all day. The only thing that's a pain is when the staff members demand that you pay them or they walk out on you. Warning: Once you play this you may never wanna turn off your computer. And if you like this game also check out: Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sim City 2000, The Sims
Excellent, easy-to-learn game

My friend bought this game, and after watching many game play hours, I bought it. This game has a lot of humor and many possible hours of play time. I also have The Sims and Hot Date. Any one who likes these types of games should buy it!

I am a big fan of simulation games, as well as a big medicine fan (I used to be a nurse, EMT, and am a Registered Pharmacy Technician, as well as a medical transcriptionist), so I really wasn't suprised to find myself playing this game for hours at a time, sometime until the sun came up. I first purchase this game when it came out, and then found it for the Playstation so i purchased that version too. I still love it and it is still challenging, unlike many other games that are just so routine you play them for a while, and then they collect dust.

This is one of my favorite games of all time. I wanted it on when it first came out, and my husband thought I wouldn't like it. I finally convinced him I would, and got it for the computer. Even now, years later, I still play it. It is that good. Very rarely do you find a game that provides you the hours of gameplay that makes paying your hard earned money, money well spent. This game does that.
The creativity involved in coming out with the zany ailments, and the types of drs, nurses, and janitors that you'll employ just brings so much to the game. Micromanaging the hospital is quite enjoyable. If you can find this on the computer it's even better, but if you have to play it on the playstation in order to get it, then do it. It's well worth it.

I've had this game for years, I'm reckoning ever since we first got a computer. I love this game. I tend to go through phases of playing it, and then not playing it for months. And then I suddenly think I haven't played it for ages, I'll have another go. I'm just coming out of those phases now, mainly because I can't go through a level, so I thought I'd review it! (I have the PC game, but what the hell) I normally get as far as the levels where there's epidemics every two seconds (no matter how many handymen you have wandering doing sweet f*** all - believe I've had up to 100, and I still get epidemics!) I've somehow managed to get up to the level with radiation patients, but once I've had one epidemic, that's me, the level slowly goes downhill, until I get to the doctor digging graves/caught in the toilets with a Naughty Nurse magazine/going past the bank etc.
This game is terrific, and the patients are so funny. I don't know what my favourite patient is, but you see patients going around with big heads/dressed like the king/no hair/transparent/completely invisible and bright green are some of the more memorable ones. Most of the patients have regular, computer game symptoms, so they look ordinary people.
I don't know why, but there's two types of doctors, and I prefer having just one of them!!! There's one who has afro-style hair, and one who has slightly less hair, but looks pure evil so I tend not to have him!
This game can get very addictive. I've seen me sitting there, playing the game, listening to music, and reading when a level is running by itself and I don't need to do anything. It can get quite funny if someone walks in on me "multi-tasking"!
When you get a sickness epidemic in the hospital it's so funny. Especially if you've got the sound turned up, people come running thinking you've been sick!
The announcements are brilliant to listen to, although my version seems to stop and start. Sometimes there's complete silence, and then the announcements will come thick and fast - normally after the emergencies have been and gone!
I'd love to complete this game, but I can't. I've had it for years. But it shows how addictive it is!

My son hires "Theme Hospital" for his Playstation all the time. It is creative, constructive and very entertaining for kids. I would like to see Electronics Art reproduce more of "Theme Hospital" for sale. I am desperate to buy a copy. In HIS words, "it is the best game EVER".
Fun game!!!

I meant to write this for the PC version but this site doesnt have it.. oh well.. same thing...
In this game, you build and run your own hospital- you build all the different types of rooms- wards, pharmacies, surgery rooms, research departments, etc... and you hire your own doctors/nurses/etc, and there's lots of weird but hillarious fake diseases(with hillarious cures) people come in with- Bloaty Head(cure: head needs to be popped), Slack Tongue(cure: tongue needs to be cut off), Invisibility(cure: the right medicine,, and who knows which one it could be...)
If a patient dies you either see them go up to heaven as an angel or The Grim Reaper comes up and pulls them down to Hell... and of course there's the hillarious announcer- "Doctor required in GP's Office!" hahaha... reminds me of the lady from the movie "Office Space" that says "Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking, just a moment!"
There are SOME annoying aspects however: The little nurse at the bottom of the screen that gives you advice gets annoying,, sometimes it gets crazy when you need to give a doctor a break but there's nobody else to take his place,, and seeing patients puke, pee, or sh*t on the floor is not a pretty site,, and sometimes the janitors can be very lazy and care to not clean it up... also, i reccomend turning off the sound and putting some music you like on while you play this, because while the announcer IS funny for a little while, it CAN get annoying... plus the music is kind of cheesy(typical cheesy PC game music)
a VERY fun and addicting game, definitley MUCH better than Theme Park- that game was horrible... get Roller Coaster Tycoon if you want an amusment park sim...
