Decent Game but Very Kludgy at Times

This game is pretty good overall, it has a lot of variety in terms of the levels and of course it's always cool to see the traditional Star Wars characters and scenarios. One thing I think is really cool is that the entire "Duel of the Fates" video is included on the CD. I also really like the light saber fighting. The light saber controls seem decent even if they don't let you control quite as much as I would like to, but watching the light saber battles is quite cool. However there are several other problems as well. The voices seem very kludgy at times as it takes time to load them, and they also are of course pre-scripted but seem even more so than many other games I have played. Moreover you are often beyond the point where the voice makes any sense and it's still talking to you. The graphics are a little crude at times, and the joystick handling could definitely be smoothed out. All of this being said I still enjoyed the game and had fun re-experiencing the movie all over again.
This is good!

This game is so cool, sometimes when fight a droid, you can use your lightsaber so it shoots, you can block it off and hit the the droid. You also have to think if you draw your weapons, you can get killed.
You've seen the movie, now play the frustrating game!

"The Phantom Menace" is by no means a horrible game, but it could have been a lot better. The graphics are a bit clunky, but the sound is outstanding. Control in some respects is good, but most of the time, especially when jumping, it can get a bit frustrating. This is to say nothing of the odd 3/4 above view that only makes control that much more difficult.
Other than that, I had fun with the game. Playing the Jedi characters and going around hacking away at droids did have its moments. Big Star Wars fans will get some enjoyment out of this game, moreso if they're video game nuts as well. Casual gamers, or Star Wars fans who don't play many video games, will grow frustrated with this game and wonder why they spent the money.
Pick it up on the clearance rack like I did.

i got this game a few weeks ago for my b-day (dec 8th) and i thought this game was the bomb. but it isn't the best game. if you want a GREAT game then get THPS2 or THPS unless your really into star wars...but this still ranks 2nd in my favorite PSX games

I loved the game the first time i played it through, but as with MOST (not all) games, it got boring the second time around...:(...It strays far from the movie. It has the basic characters, but is not like the movie. You will recognize a few items and place from the movie...like the palace, of the last part of the game, where you defeat Darth Maul, but it was just kind of a game to sell and make money...It's fun, but doesn't last

Not perfect, but makes the cut.

This game is great. I like how I can turn the lightsaber on and off. Also, I like how it follows the phantom menace better. Unlike jedi power battles. The game play is somewhat like syphon filter. You can use more weapons than just your lightsaber. Complaints? Yea I have a few. Like when the graphics make jumping even harder. And in the final battle there is a jump that is almost impossible to do. Did anyone else have trouble there? But these don't effect it enough to bring it down.
Great Game worth buying especially used.

Very Good game that has been taken off the market. If you are a Star Wars fan and loved the Phantom Menace and are good at adventure games this is one to buy. You really didn't need to see the movie to play, but it helps to know who the bad guys and good guys are. I'm not very good at adventure games and usually only buy sports games, but this one was difficult enough not to be a push over game but easy enough for someone like myself, not very good at adventure games, to play. ...
Best Playstation game EVER!!

This is the best playstation game ever! There are some problems though. The graphics could've been better. Only Jar Jar looks like the character in the movie (that's probably because he's computer animated in the movie). Other than that, this game is the BEST!!!
I really expected better, but it may not be too late...

Boy, this game was a real disappointment. I truly expected better for this game, since it was based on a truly cool, badass movie. The main reason why it wasn't so good is because of its difficulty... this game was incredibly difficult! Even with the Player's Guide it was very difficult to beat! The last time I played it was probably 2 to 3 years ago though, and back then I wasn't as skilled as I am now at video game playing... maybe I'll give it a second chance. Still, its chances of not being sold or something are not really good.
After all the reviews that I read, I thought that when I tried my buddy's game "Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles" on my step-brother's Dreamcast that it would [stink]completely... but in fact it was the exact opposite. All the reviews I read kept saying how "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" was way better than"Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles"... boy were those reviews experiencing strong cases of irony. "Jedi Power Battles" was a lot more fun than "The Phantom Menace", and it was at a good level of difficulty. Too bad I didn't beat it though, my step-brother doesn't have a Memory Card for his Dreamcast. If you're a HUGE fan of "Star Wars", then don't get this game... you'll end up destroying the game after you see how many pointless missions you have to go through and how many impossibly difficult leaders you have to face: 1) Jabba the Hut's champion fighter, 2) a huge and hairy beast, 3) a thief who stole a part from Anakin's podracer, 4) a Coruscant mercenary, 5) and ofcourse the incredibly powerful Darth Maul. Sure, it may SOUND easy, but wait till you hear this... you don't always play as Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi; in quite a few levels you are forced to play as Captain Panaka and even...gulp... Queen Amidala! Really, I'm not kidding.
