Horrible game

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 6 / 8

In the nineties, the Mortal Kombat series of games established themselves as one of the finest fighting game series around, as well as one of the most controversial. Three games in the series had been released so far (four if you count the two different versions of Mortal Kombat III), and the creators wanted to try something a little different - an action-adventure starring one of the most beloved MK characters - the icy ninja Sub-Zero. Did they succeed or fail? Read on for my review of MK Mythologies.

PROS:
-GOOD GRAPHICS FOR A PLAYSTATION ONE GAME. The best thing about this game is, by far, the graphics. They're nothing revolutionary, but they get the job done.
-AWESOME CUT SCENES. The game features live cut scenes, which are one of the reasons I liked the original Playstation's games so well.
-UNIQUE CONCEPT. The creators of the series set out to do something no one else had done, and they did it.
-PASSWORDS. The game has passwords, so you don't need a memory card.

CONS:
-HORRIBLE control for this sort of game. These controls belong in an MK tournament fighter, but NOT in an action-adventure. You even have to push a button just to TURN AROUND! You also must push one to pick up items! And to make things worse, the controls are less responsive than they were in the MK tournament fighters.
-UNIQUENESS ISN'T ALWAYS A GOOD THING. The game set out to combine two very different types of fighting games. They did so, but the game is horribly imbalanced because of it.
-SIMPLE MISTAKES CAN KILL YOU. Platform jumping in the game is TERRIBLE, as are most other aspects of the game.

OVERALL:
DO NOT BUY, or even play this game. The creators of the MK series did something unique indeed, but the execution was horrible. Unless you WANT to play a terrible game, pass this one by. And if you MUST play it for some reason, make sure you play the Playstation version - the Nintendo 64 one doesn't have the cut scenes.

great game but TOO DIFFICULT TO BEAT!

This would have been an absolutely brilliant game if the difficulty level had been low and if the controls had been good.Otherwise it's a great game. The graphics are superb, the sound effects are done quite well. The FMV sequences in between the stages are stunning. The first stage isn't tough to beat ,but from thereon it becomes quite tough and frustating at times. The controls aren't that easy to master. But all in all still a welcome addition to the MK series.

Not bad for its time, but too hard

Falling down pits in the wind and fire stages are awful. The fighting scenes are kind of difficult as well. It can be fun, but only with a low difficulty, or the cheat codes. Only get this if you're a hardcore MK Fan.

Very Good

This is a very good adventure game. Sure, it's not the Mortal Kombat fighting game, but it is an adventure game. The FMV's are great and it has an interesting storyline. I recommend it.

MORTAL KOMBAT AT ITS BEST!

I have played this game, and it is my favorite game in the world! I am a BIG Sub-Zero fan, so I just got it at first because it is a game dedicated to him. Then I played it, and I was glad I bought it. The graphics and backgrounds are great, especially when you see reflections in water, which you don't on N64. The Playstation controller is perfect for this kind of game, and the acting in the FMV sequences are also great, considerring John Turke's portrail as Sub-Zero. If you have Playstation, get this game. If you have N64, get this game at your own risk!

This game is the worst ever.

When I first got the game I thought it would be good like the other mortal kombat games , but then I learned that I wasted my money. This game is extremely hard to beat, has bad graphics, a dumb story , and no 2 player mode. If I were you I would not buy this game. I learned that the hard way.

As far as MK goes... it doesn't compare...

I love playing mortal Kombat although it's been around sense the SNES... in fact it's been one of the only fighting games I've found pleasure in. I mean, it's my stress reliver... I bought this game thinking I was going to get something close to mortal kombat but found that it's tougher, only one player and more of a combined quest/fighting game. it's seems alright but it's not mortal kombat. I mean, I'm not really shore what they were trying to do with it but to me it doesn't make much sense and isn't near as much fun a MK trilogy...

Best MK Game?

MK Mythologies Sub Zero in my opinion, is one of the best Mortal Kombat games of all times. It combines the classic MK fighting system with a new world to explore. It does not take place in a fighting ring, you actually must solve puzzles, get past traps, and even make potions! It may be 7 years old, but it is still a great game that all MK fans should play.

Good Game, but just a smidgen too hard

This was a great game, but there are some drawbacks. The game is just too incredibly hard for the limited number of lives, and the boss battles (Particularly on the bridge of Immortality) are repetetive. A good game overall, buy it!

not the best but not bad

This game was ok I mean Sub-Zero is my second favorite charecter my first though is Scorpion and he is one of the resons I rented this game. It was an ok story but nothing really cool so I guess by it if your favorite charecter is Sub-Zero other then that you will just b!t(h about how hard it is.
