GREAT!
At around 1,000 different puzzle of varying difficulty, a plethora of options, ease of use, and single-card download play, there's little if anything that New York Times Crosswords got wrong.
This is just what a handheld crossword game should be. With a great interface and the best source material possible, The New York Times Crosswords is a must-have for any crossword fan on the go. This is a must own. But be aware the challenge of a NYT crossword has not been dumbed down for a younger audience at all. This is the real NY Times, rated on a Monday through Sunday difficulty scale. So be prepared for some easy and some hard puzzles.
Superb handwriting recognition and other nifty features make a strong argument for ditching traditional paper crosswords entirely in favor of ones on handhelds like the Nintendo DS. The only thing missing that would make this perfect would be to use the Wi-Fi in the DS to browse and download crossword files *from* the Times' website, if you had paid for a online crossword subscription.
Essentially you get an infinite supply of crossword puzzles the size of a postage stamp to carry around with you all for $20. If you have any sort of interest in crosswords, this is going to be your best friend. Undoubtedly. It's one of the best uses yet of the DS, and it makes for a perfect portable game.
Worthwhile investment

Enjoying this. Like to work them while listening to the news on TV and such. No pencil to sharpen, no erasing, lots of crosswords in one small package. Also, consider the Solitaire game. These can occupy a person without a need for space or surface to write on. Nice diversions and should continue to get something from them for a long time as they pack so many puzzles or game variations into them.
Good game to pass the time.

The DS Download Play is the coolest part of this game. I sat down with my friend and we started a crossword puzzle. We played Co-op mode and started solving. He could see my edits and I could see his as we both played. It was rather fun.
The character recognition is very good and it will recognize upper and lowercase letters with very few errors.
It's nice to carry around 1000 crossword puzzles, keep track of finishing times, and not mess with pencils or pens.
If you think you want to start working crossword puzzles, this would be the best way.

My wife loves crossword puzzles, so I bought this game when it was on sale. Now I rarely get to play my Nintendo DS. The puzzles are good clever puzzles created for The New York Times, not some page filler puzzles. The hint system works great. You can validate your entries without being penalized.
Definitely not easy..

This game is definitely not for the faint of heart. I hope you know your crosswords because this is definitely difficult. I didn't really like the fact that you can't see the whole crossword puzzle, only the part you are working on. It's good and basic none the less.

This game is hard, but then, since when were the New York Times crossword puzzles easy?
I'm terrible at this game, but I do enjoy trying. And, it beats paper puzzles because you can, at least, get help and, at the end, it tells you if you have any mistakes.
I recommend this game, but if you expect a real easy time of it, you would be kidding yourself.
Challenging...very challenging.

Typical NY Times crosswords. If you have trouble with the real ones you'll have trouble doing these. The hints come in handy but they make it difficult to score anything above a D.
FANTASMAGORIC! Love this game!

I have quite a few games for my DS Lite, and I'm not counting the Advance games I have that fit. However, when I received my New York Times Crossword for the DS Lite ... I found I had quite a problem. It's eating into what I used to call my "free time". There is NO free time. Whenever I get a minute I do another puzzle. I can choose the difficulty, I can save the puzzle if there is no time to finish, I can choose the "day" (Monday is the easiest, getting more and more difficult as the week goes on), and you can either write in your word or use a graphic keyboard (I prefer writing with the stylus). There is the ability to accept hints, and you can use a timer, or leave that off. It is totally habit forming and there is absolutely nothing about this game I would change. I still do the puzzles in the newspaper ... but the DS Lite NYTimes Crossword is by far the best purchase I have made thus far for this game.
Outstanding adaptation

This game is a must-have for crossword puzzle addicts. The interface is perfect and the puzzles are engaging. The graphics aren't so great but then again, it isn't about the graphics! You really can't go wrong with this one!
