My grandson loves the game. It was a gift. It has been worth the price for the enjoyment he and his dad have gotten out of it.
People should check around before buying...

Anybody complaining about the controls needs to start checking on various game sites. Almost every review states that the controls are identical to the XBox 360 and that all the buttons are different. Yes, it takes a few games to get used to, but it is actually pretty easy to use once you get used to it. Being so late in the season, and the fact that Madden 08 will be out in about 8 months, it isnt necessarily worth $60. Only reason I even played this game is because NCAA 07 isnt available for PS3. It's still a good game though. If you dont like the controls, get the game for PS2.
Madden is definitely in Madden 07

I will agree with the negative reviews that a lot has changed from the PS2 version. It will take some time to get used to, but that is to be expected with new consoles and their games. I just wanted to straighten out a few myths I saw floating around in the reviews since I bought this game yesturday.
1) Madden IS in this game, and he talks up a storm just like in all the other games. The voice that is missing is Al Michaels. I agree that the new commentator is lame and they should bring Al back. But YES MADDEN's VOICE IS IN THIS GAME for all you people wondering if they really did make a Madden football game without Madden's voice.
2) Yes you can make defensive formation changes, the same way as in the PS2 version.
3) No-huddles have video attached, BUT YOU CAN SKIP IT.
4) If you don't have a component or HDMI video cable or HD tv all the writing and play calling is hard to see, but that is only because you are using the wrong kind of TV and it has to scale down the quality to work with 480p instead of 720p or 1080p. I don't have an HDTV or the component connector yet so yes I expect to squint a little to see the names of the plays until I get a decent TV.
Overall, if you are a Madden fan this game is well worth it. There is some work that needs to be done, sure (as stated by someone else, the franchise mode appears to be lacking, but I haven't played a whole season yet). It looks sweet, it plays great, after only a day I am already getting used to the new buttons. Oh and something that rocks with the new controllers... if you jolt back on the controller (just move it quickly in any direction, the entire controller) on defense, it will try to get an early jump, just like in NCAA 07, or it will perfom a hit stick like in the PS2 version, or on offense in will try to draw the defense offsides. IT'S AWESOME!!!
Not the traditional Madden Hit but acceptable...

The controls are off and the motion sense is a pain in the butt; however, if you can get past the initial disappointment with the game and graphics then you will find it still a very fun game for the new PS3. Traditional Madden users had grown accustomed to a certain type of gameplay and this version is definitely much different. It is shockingly similiar to the Xbox 360 version. So, if you own the PS2 version os Madden 07, my suggestion would be to wait until the next year's release of Madden because this one was definitely a rush job and not worth your money. However, if you don't currently have 07 Madden then jump on this one to get ahead of the curve for next years release!!!!
Better than Madden 94

Maybe it's because the last Madden I played was Madden 94, but Madden 07 seems pretty good to me. It's only 720p though, which is unsurprising since this is just a port of the XBox 360 version. Graphics are decent but Madden 08 better be 1080p!!

I got this game the day it came out and I had to wait about 3 months to get a ps3 to play it and I got the 60GB. The first thing you are going to notice when you play the game is the shift from ps2 to ps3! Like the gameplay is slower than the lightning fast ps2 version and also the controls are different, like R2 is to sprint instead of X, but you'll get use to it. Also, the menus are hard to navigate and they sometimes freeze, like you'll be trying to view a teams roster and it won't let you go back to the menus. Second, the graphics are so cool but some of the players faces don't look like themselves and reggie bush's face, oh my gosh!, but he's fast with the cool highlight stick, also there are no referees or the chain people on the field and there is no net behind the field goal post and when you kick the ball and it is good it goes through like there is a net, now that is weird! But I recommend this game if you don't have this year's madden on a another platform or your new to video games and you like pro football. Well its just another year for us madden fans, but we are definitely hoping that madden 08 is going to way better.
Are you people crazy!?

This is obviously next-gen Madden- The 360 version is worse, I don't see how it is rated higher here. But seriously, has Madden football ever been that great of a game?
First off, the graphics are great for a launch title. Compare this game to the PS2's first Madden game, then imagine how good it will be for PS3 in 5-6 years. :) Physics have also had an overhaul, the biggest feature is, of course, the gang-tackling feature, which adds to the realism of the game. The authenticity of the game is improved with the individual running styles of the Running Backs, including Tiki Barber's odd, no-fumble carry. The facial models of select players are great, but those that were left out of the hyper-accurate detailing are just ugly in comparison.
Those complaining about the absence of John Madden's voice need to get a clue: No one likes hearing him say, "The reason that run didn't work was because the defender ran right into him and tackled him." Really? Wow, I'm sure glad that I have someone to echo everything that I do on screen. "The reason the game stopped was because the player hit the pause button." Yes, it is nearly that ridiculous. I agree that the commentary of next-gen Madden isn't the best, but if we only had Al Michaels it would be a lot better.
I like the depth of the frachise mode, but it does need more of the existing features; current-gen Madden has everything.
Definitely buy this game if you are the football fan, buy it for the improvements over the current-gen, but play franchise on PS2.
Gameplay control is much worse

What i dont like about this game is that you lack the hot routes and the defensive changes you could make with a flip of the right analog stick like in the PS2 version. I have to admit, the graphics and gameplay are so much more realistic. Also, the motion sensor in the game adds a little realistic edge. If you move the controller while on defence before the snap, you will be called for offsides. They changed the controls around (like R2 is to sprint) but if you think about it, that move does make sense. When you held X to sprint in the PS2 version, you would have to let go of it to do a spin move or a juke.
Should you buy this game? I'd say yes. If you want this game, dont drag it on, because then you might as well wait for Madden NFL 08 (Every Madden game comes out in August).
I like it but it could be better

I bought this game and the graphics just jumped out at me. They are really good. The game play is different. It is fun to play but the defensive is like swiss cheese. Also it sometimes seems like the players are just skating instead of running it seems like. The new interface is somewhat confusing at first. I hope the next Madden is better. Or if you did not know there is going to be a new 2K football game. So maybe hopefully they will give madden football what it needs. A kick in the butt!
A disappointing update

I've been playing Madden on a PS2 for about as long as the PS2 has existed and this is the only update to disappoint me. Here are my thoughts.
Gameplay
This is the good news. The graphics are great - probably not quite as good as you thought, but still great. There is some pretty stupid eye candy. For example, between plays you get artistic shots of various unseen parts of the stadium like between pillars, or looking out from the hallways or, my favorite, a close-up of speaker clusters. Players on the sideline clap together in rhythm like trained monkeys. I wouldn't miss these.
Players move in a much more natural fashion and tackling in particular is much more realistic. For example, instead of either getting tackled or shucking a tackler, you may have a running back slowed down by dragging a tackler before getting popped by another one. It's hard to describe but it has a much more realistic feel. I also feel like its easier to run through the middle which was also a short coming of prior games.
The controls have shifted dramatically so you need to read up before you play. In particular, the triangle button has shifted from "hot route" to "jump offsides" - that cost me about 100 yards my first game. The new controls probably make more sense, but will take some getting used to.
They removed one feature that I really liked which was the "accelerated clock". That used to run the clock down to fixed time after calling the play which made it harder to call a crazy amount of audibles at the line and also kept the game moving. Without, I find that I can run a play every 10 seconds which is pretty silly.
Strategy
This is a complete disaster. In a rush to get the product out they have removed a ton of features. You no longer have formation specific audibles, so you're back to the basic five. You can't have formations specific substitutions, so there's no resting specific players or having a formation with your possession receivers. You can't adjust individual defenders, so you can't decided to blitz a corner instead of have them play zone or switch match ups. You can't alter your defensive match up (man match vs. zone match), so it's impossible to disguise zone coverage.
This is probably sufficient to send me back to the PS2 version.
Summary
If you just like to play a game with your friend and you don't generally make adjustments at the line, this is a worthwhile upgrade. If you play in Franchise mode and like a more cerebral game, I'd wait for 2008 when they've put those features back.
