I will agree with the negative reviews that a lot has changed from the PS2 version. It will take some time to get used to, but that is to be expected with new consoles and their games. I just wanted to straighten out a few myths I saw floating around in the reviews since I bought this game yesturday.
1) Madden IS in this game, and he talks up a storm just like in all the other games. The voice that is missing is Al Michaels. I agree that the new commentator is lame and they should bring Al back. But YES MADDEN's VOICE IS IN THIS GAME for all you people wondering if they really did make a Madden football game without Madden's voice.
2) Yes you can make defensive formation changes, the same way as in the PS2 version.
3) No-huddles have video attached, BUT YOU CAN SKIP IT.
4) If you don't have a component or HDMI video cable or HD tv all the writing and play calling is hard to see, but that is only because you are using the wrong kind of TV and it has to scale down the quality to work with 480p instead of 720p or 1080p. I don't have an HDTV or the component connector yet so yes I expect to squint a little to see the names of the plays until I get a decent TV.
Overall, if you are a Madden fan this game is well worth it. There is some work that needs to be done, sure (as stated by someone else, the franchise mode appears to be lacking, but I haven't played a whole season yet). It looks sweet, it plays great, after only a day I am already getting used to the new buttons. Oh and something that rocks with the new controllers... if you jolt back on the controller (just move it quickly in any direction, the entire controller) on defense, it will try to get an early jump, just like in NCAA 07, or it will perfom a hit stick like in the PS2 version, or on offense in will try to draw the defense offsides. IT'S AWESOME!!!
poor effort -- unnecessary

This game feels rushed and not fun. Playing defense is a chore and extremely frustrating. Passing is a coin flip. Graphically it's superior to the PS2 version but not enough to impress. The franchise is soulless and adds nothing -- there's zero sense of leading a team through a season.
The menus are clunky and unnecessarily complicated. And the controls? Why did they change them? Why not give an option to switch back to CLASSIC controls. It makes the learning curve unnecessarily difficult.
The highlight stick -- instead of adding control -- actually takes it away by commiting you to drawn out animations that limit your ability to react to the play's unfolding.
And the Superstar and Minigames modes are garbage. Why am I locked into first person mode in superstar? Why are the minigames so tedious AND necessary to create a player?
Why can't I edit ALL the players how I WANT THEM? if I'm paying $60, you should let me customize the game to my tastes. Is it because you want me to keep buying next year's version?
And why do I only get two choices (home and away) of uniforms? This is unacceptable. The only rationalization I can think for this is greed.
Guess what EA? Monopolies come to an end because the entity in power gets lazy and greedy. This game should mark the sounding of the wake-up bell, 'cause if you don't the bell will toll for you.
I like it but it could be better

I bought this game and the graphics just jumped out at me. They are really good. The game play is different. It is fun to play but the defensive is like swiss cheese. Also it sometimes seems like the players are just skating instead of running it seems like. The new interface is somewhat confusing at first. I hope the next Madden is better. Or if you did not know there is going to be a new 2K football game. So maybe hopefully they will give madden football what it needs. A kick in the butt!
People should check around before buying...

Anybody complaining about the controls needs to start checking on various game sites. Almost every review states that the controls are identical to the XBox 360 and that all the buttons are different. Yes, it takes a few games to get used to, but it is actually pretty easy to use once you get used to it. Being so late in the season, and the fact that Madden 08 will be out in about 8 months, it isnt necessarily worth $60. Only reason I even played this game is because NCAA 07 isnt available for PS3. It's still a good game though. If you dont like the controls, get the game for PS2.

My grandson loves the game. It was a gift. It has been worth the price for the enjoyment he and his dad have gotten out of it.
Dont buy this game

What a waste of money. You are better off playing the xbox and ps2 versions. I have never been more disapointed in a game before.

I am so glad that I read the reviews before buying this game! I rented it and I don't understand how EA could have ruined such a great franchise! Don't even bother unless you want to be dissapionted.

The main thing that got me on this game and i so regret buying it is that you can't hide your plays when you are playing 2player....thats so disappointing....they better fix this on the new madden game or i'm never buying another madden game ever!!!!

The controls are off and the motion sense is a pain in the butt; however, if you can get past the initial disappointment with the game and graphics then you will find it still a very fun game for the new PS3. Traditional Madden users had grown accustomed to a certain type of gameplay and this version is definitely much different. It is shockingly similiar to the Xbox 360 version. So, if you own the PS2 version os Madden 07, my suggestion would be to wait until the next year's release of Madden because this one was definitely a rush job and not worth your money. However, if you don't currently have 07 Madden then jump on this one to get ahead of the curve for next years release!!!!
Better than Madden 94

Maybe it's because the last Madden I played was Madden 94, but Madden 07 seems pretty good to me. It's only 720p though, which is unsurprising since this is just a port of the XBox 360 version. Graphics are decent but Madden 08 better be 1080p!!
