I like 2-D fighting games a lot. I think this game is really cool because it has a lot of my favorite suits: The NU Gundam, RX-78-2, Sazabi, Z Gundam, and ZZ Gundam. I am a big U.C. fan and I enjoy this game. Even though it doesn't have a lot of features, you could play VS. mode a lot. The only thing I don't like is that in single player you always have to be Heero Yuy. I would really like to be Amuro Ray in single player or Char.
It's good, but it could be better!!

i know a lot of people are going to hate me, but it's true. in the game there is only one gundam wing pilot and that's heero. the other pilots are from different gundam series(0089,gundam z,gundam zz). the game is good but as far as i can tell they could have included more gundam wing pilots. if you are a gundam fanatic buy it,if not at least rent it just for the sake of controlling the wing zero.
Cool characters, but detestable lack of balance.

Why is it when developers unleash a franchise game they tend to get lazy and contemptuous with their design? For years I've been waiting for a good Gundam game, so it was with great excitement that I launched into this game. What Bandai delivered is a game that has great visuals and a wonderful cast of characters from past and present Gundam series, but a fighting game that is lukewarm at best, absolutely horrendous at worst.
Badly balanced characters is the worst aspect of this game. I've finished the game with every character by now, but every time I have to fight "Psycho Gundam MkII", it's still one of the most unpleasantly ill-balanced fights I've ever come across. I know some gamers equate difficulty with fun and unfairness with challenge, but fighting a computer character whose every hit takes off about eight times more energy than you do isn't exactly my idea of fun (and I'm not talking about a Psycho Crusher-style, one-time-only super move either). Even among the usable characters, Zeong (possibly my favourite Gundam character ever) and Quin Mantha are quite weak, but The-O is lopsidedly powerful.
There aren't that many playing options, either -- the Vs. mode doesn't offer that many more characters to choose from; the Story mode has laughable, generic Japanese anime cliche dialogue ("I'm as tough as they come", "I'll destroy you", etc.), and the ending is so flimsy I would've rather not had any ending at all.
Being a huge Gundam fan, I still give this game an extra star. Based on gameplay alone, this is a real stinker. The only point of recommendation is really for the characters. Sure, it's fun to play as Sazabi or Zaku II, but does that make up for a very bad fighting engine, dirt-poor response and careless design? Not for me.
Finally...a Gundam game for the PSX finally arrives !

The second Gundam game to ever come to the US. Only this time, this one came to the PlayStation and it's about time ! The game appears to be a 2D fighter (it is actually a renamed version of one of the Gundam Battle Master series from Japan). This game, like any other anime-based games, is strictly for fans of the original Gundam anime series. In this game, you get to play as all kinds of mobile suits from the Universal Century Gundam series and After Colony Gundam series. The only Gundam Wing mobile suit is the Wing Gundam. Speaking of that, in Story Mode, you will play as Gundam Wing's popular main character, Heero Yuy. But don't feel discouraged about playing as the Wing Gundam throughout the whole game. You get to select different Mobile Suits like Zeon mobile suits, Earth Federation Gundams, and Gundams from the After Colony series. Your mission is to find the man responsible for starting all these meaningless wars between two centuries. During his journey, he will encounter some familiar characters from the Gundam universe like Kamiru Bidan from Z-Gundam, Char Aznable from Mobile Suit Gundam, Trieze Kushrenada from Gundam Wing, and more. Anyway, let me describe the game's bad side and good side altogether. The graphics are okay. The animation is smooth but the mobile suits look totally bad with all those pixels on the edges. Still, the Mobile Suits move smoothly as if they are featured in a 3D fighter. The backgrounds look great. They totally resemble the battle arenas of all of the Gundam series. The controls are so-so, to those who never mastered (or never bothered to master) Dragonball GT Final Bout for the PlayStation. To many of you, its very slow and very impossible to beat up your opponent with just a two-hit combo. But to me, its just plain fun to master ! But still, I was pretty much expecting the cool gameplay mechanics from Super Famicom's only Gundam Wing title on Japan, Gundam Wing: Endless Duel, but this is more than enough. It's all about mastering and understanding the game very well. The music is too forgetable and horrible. It doesn't necessarily match the action. Only a few tracks are cool, but most of them (stink). On the bright side, the sound effects really resemble that of the Gundam series like the movements of the Mobile Suits and weapon usage like the beam saber slash, rifle beam firing, and the sound of brutally scratched metal. The most annoying sound is the voice announcer. Gosh ! Will someone turn off the voice ! Maybe Bandai should've had a much better announcer. That guy can't even pronounce the names of the Gundams correctly. And when the announcer sets up the fight, he sounds like he's on drugs or something. For pete sake, this is a fight mister, not a childrens storybook ! Even if Gundam Battle Assault suffers a mouthful of flaws, its still worth the purchase if you happen to be a fan of the Gundam series. This may never earn its right to be the best 2D fighter ever, but its very fun to play ! To the Gundam fans out there, go get this game ! You'll definently have a blast with this one ! If you want to play other Gundam games for the US, play Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes for the Dreamcast or play Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaubro for the PlayStation 2 game console. The thing that (stinks) is that Gundam Battle Assault is a rare game now, and they barely sell it that much. But if you're lucky and you found it, buy it right now, before someone else gets their hands on it !
Great for old school Gundam fans

Gundam Battle Assult is the American version of The Gundam Battle Master 2. They replaced a suit known as Hamma Hamma and put in Wing Gundam, so fans of Gundam Wing would know someone. This game is pretty much Street Fighter meets mechs, (no not Cyberbots). There are two suits from Gundam Wing, Wing Gundam, and Hydra who is from a Wing Manga called G-Unit. The others are from Z, 0083, 0080, ZZ, Chars Counterattack, and Original Gundam. This game is great if you love old school Gundam. But it's still weird playing as Heero in Zeong going against ZZ gundam. It's fun to play but later the computer can get really cheap, (especially Psycho Gundam MrkIII). But still its a fun game, you can boost around the screen, use beam sabres and pull off super moves.
The best Gundam fighting game ever

After having played Gundam Wing Endless Duel on the SNES, I thought that all Gundam fighting games were going to be as boring as that one. To my surprise, this game is a wake up call to all Gundam fans. Featuring suits from Wing, 0079, 0080, 0083, Z, ZZ and Char's Counterattack.
The story mode is a little bit hard to beleive. It take place in the year After Colony 19X (What? No Universal Century?). Im guessing this took place in AC 197, since there is some talk of Zechs and Trieze here and there in the story. But other than Wing Gundam, there are no other suits from Gundam Wing. While playing in Story mode you get to see a lot of BIG suits like the Phsyco and Big Zam. The versus mode, however, is extremely fun to play.
The graphics are pretty much Street Fighter Alpha graphics. It's 2-D, but the mobile suits move around in a natural manner. You can even blow off different parts of the mobile suit. The mobile suits look beautiful especially with such bright suits like the Qubeley and Hy-Gogg. The music various from pulse pounding action music to classic SNES music. The sound that moves with the graphics are excellent, giving the game an arcade feel to it. Nice touch.
Overall, Gundam Battle Assualt is one heck of a great thumb-bleeder fighting game to play over and over. Worth buying.

Unfortunately for the Non-Japanese converted Playstation, this is one of the few Gundam games available. It blends mecha from the entire series, all teh way back to 1979 in a manner that, while amusing, becomes repeptitive. There is very little diversity in ability, and unfortunately it only retains one "story line." The fighting is repetitive, all the moves are easy enough to perform that the challenge level is lacking. This is a one play game, and then only for fans of the Gundam series.

I bought this game about 6 months ago, but it was recently that I got into the game. Great detaled 2D game play and a Great group of Mobile suits Like Hy-gogg, Sazabi, and the Z Gundams. And if I missed your Favorite Mobile Suit i'm sorry. There isn't a very good story to the game, the game play is slightly unusual, and theres not that much strategy when it comes down to the mobil suit itself not till you figure out there weakness then theres strategy. But then if you are wondering wy I gave this game 4 stars (it's really 4 1/2 Stars)? It just comes down to just plain kicking each others [rears]. So thats My Review you be shure to read other reviews from me and other Critics.

A great game indeed. Not the best graphics in the world but still good. Even if you dcouldn't tell Wing ZERO from Gundam ZZ you should buy it if you are a hardcore fighting game lover.
Gundam Battle Assault is a great game but lacks gundams.

I never have liked bandai games very much, but i have to admit this a great game. Although I was dissapointed about the lack of gundams(wing zero, heavyarms, tallgese111,etc.) this is still a fun game. The controls are easy when you get used to them. The old 2D game play does not bother me one bit. Also, the game is just too easy. I beat it the night I got it. I would suggest to rent this game before you buy it.
