This really is the holy grail of PSX games, and not because of the game itself

Here's the story of this game. It's 1997, a good year in video game history. 3D games are all the rage, copies of games like Super Mario 64 are flying off the shelves like nuts, and Bandai is looking for a way to cash in on this. They look into games they own the rights to in Japan that they can release in America and make a quick buck, they find Dragon Ball GT Final Bout in their collection and say "Hey, this game looks good, it's 3D and it's a fighter, possibly the next Mortal Kombat, let's put this out there, we'll make a few bucks off it." They produce 10,000 copies of it and the game's off to stores to be purchased by people who don't know what the hell Dragon Ball Z is, because at this point you could only really find DBZ on TV on local stations at like 5 in the morning (which is how it was found by the executives at Cartoon Network).
This game sells over time, and before Cartoon Network starts showing episodes of DBZ this game sells out to people looking for a new fighting game. Once the show debuts on CN and people poop themselves with excitement saying "Hey this show kicks derriere! And I saw a game of this at Toys R Us!" the game is already gone. People scramble to get copies and they've been scrambling ever since, but not so much any more as the DBZ Hay-Day is over. But copies still sell for pretty high, high enough to get a 2004 rerelease of the game.
But everyone knows that the original 1997 release of it is indeed the holy grail of PSX games, and not because of the gameplay (which is pretty bad) but because of the story behind it and it's rarity.

The 12 year old kid that is turning 13 wants this GAME!

You should get this game if you have Playstation! They also have
Dragon Ball Z:Ultimate Battle 22, but I think that GT is better!
I don,t have Playstation, but my friend does!I have Dreamcast,
Gamecube,Sega Genesis 3,and N64. If they have a DBZ game for
Dreamcast I want to know! or netbusta13@
netscape.net! I still collect old systems like a Sega Saturn. If you want to give it to me that would be even better!

That game is the best. I alwayes wanted to play a DBZ game. I always watch the show and my favorite character is goku.

It may be the "Japanese version", but still good fun!

I first played this game at my friends house when he was borrowing it. This is no doubt, the BESTEST, GREATEST one that I have seen yet, and the Graffix are phat too!! Hopefully, though, they will make this 100% English someday.^_^

The Most Disappointing Dragon Ball Game...

This game is a monsterous disaster. Even if it was rare, I do not understand how anyone could have possible considered paying as much as $100 for this game.

The gameplay mechanics were borrowed from its 2D predecessors; however, the conversion into 3D was horrible. The game moves slow, the graphics are mediocre at best, the difficulty can be overwhelming at times, controls were shoddy, the game had horrible load times considering there were better games that also loaded for that period of time--the only good that I really saw in the game was that it stayed true to the series and featured a good sized cast of characters spanning from the Dragon Ball all the way through GT (But NOT every character and there wasn't much of a STORY per se existent in this game).

Breakdown-

The Good:
-A huge roster of the Dragon Ball Universe warriors
-Retains the original voices from the show
-nice Cutscene

The Bad:
-The Graphics
-The Gameplay
-The Framerate
-The price--especially when the game first went out of print

We never recieved the game we ordered. When he sent it the first it was wrong thing, sent it back wrong again. Then he tells us he does not have the game we ordered and it sold for 250 dollars. We had to get 3 games we did not even want. This is after 30 emails or more back and forth. It was ridiculous. I would advise anyone to never order anything from this company. I read other reviews and saw some people had same problems. Hope this tells everyone something. For others with same problems i know what you feel. Just keep emailing and maybe you will get right game. Thank you

US or Japanese, DBGT Final Bout is one of the BEST fighting games out there. All your fave characters lik Vegeta, Goku, Vegito, Pan, and all of your fave speacials like Kamehameha, Spirit Bomb, Final Flash, and more! If you get the Japanese Ver., you need a converter and need to know the swap trick. Build-up is a very cool feature. You get a character and make them fight through rounds and become stronger (my build-up character is ssj Chibi Goku), and the more you use an attack, the more effective it becomes. Please not that the Japanese version will not work on PS2! No, not even with a converter. The coolest part is this is the 1st game that you can play as a ssj4 (Goku). This is something that no DB/Z/GT fan should miss. So quit tortchering yourself adn buy the game!!!
