The Dancing is Fine, but where did they get these songs?

None of the songs used in this album were popular, recognizable Disney songs. They were all from Disney, but they were all rather obscur. I was majorly disappointed.

A joke

The entire Dance Dance Revolution is a joke, to put it mildly. If you are a two left foot the concept seems attractive, but in practice you first need to buy the expensive and hard to find dance pad (a floor mat with sensors that connects to your PS and which you hop on), and then the game gets boring and difficult quickly. The music is the worst part, because you can't mix your own. This is a waste of money.

Not As Good As Other US Versions

While there may be the dual appeal for disney and Dance Dance Revolution fans, th truth is that this game is a sub par Dance Dance Revoultion wanna be.
Out for the box this game offers less than 20 songs, about 2/3rds are disney songs remixed to an annoying Eurobeat that gets old FAST. The other 1/3 of the songs are from other DDR mixes. In other words there are no original songs. Also unlike the other versions of DDR the characters DO NOT DANCE, and unlike the other DDR verions the backgrounds are not that of 3D dancing but 2D sprites. The sprites are not exciting either, there movements are relagated to two or three motions looped again and again until the song ends, that are move distacting then anything.

Often with Disney games in an attempt to make the game "easier" for a young audience the developers often manage to make it HARD.
Speed of the songs is faster then most songs on the DDR and DDR Konamix games. Making them hard for the beginner. To make up for this the letter grade system is VERY kind. But what is the piont of getting a B grade but missing more than 20 steps? Silly

In short:

Pros:
Disney Game
Dancing game
Good for "chubby" or "porky" youths

Con:
Graphics (the use of non dancing 2D sprites)
Sub par Music Selection
Limited Number of songs
Too difficult for true begginers
Boring songs
Limited Modes (no beginner or edit modes)

Thats why if gets on two stars.

A BETTER CHOICE:
The Original Dance Dance Revolution for PSone

I wish they would of kept to the previous ddrs (such as the disney characters dancing and alot of other secrets).Other than that it was ok.

Fun, but really easy.

Sometimes I get a strong desire to play this, but it passes after about half an hour because there aren't many songs on this mix to begin with, and that leaves even fewer songs I really like. I have to say though, the soundtrack (Japanese release) is amazing, on it's own.

Only if you're a collector...

I bought this item because I heard it was a bit less strict about scoring so I could use it as a good training disc. The difficulty settings are NOT the same as on a normal DDR. On a normal DDR, you can do almost any song on almost any setting. In this game, each song has two settings, "basic" and "trick". How difficult the "basic" setting is varies by song and is denoted by stars. I can't do any song above two stars well, and I can only do the three star setting with great difficulty, despite having prior experience doing DDR. I would not call this an "easy" disc. There are only 7 out of 20 songs that I can actually do, and that's if I am being generous and including songs where my score isn't so great. Granted, I am no DDR expert, and I'm sure if you're really good, you could do all the songs. If you're looking for a great DDR disc that's lots of fun and similar to other DDR games you've played, this is not it. Also, the background graphics are not that great, especially the one for Pluto. It's actually sort of distressing to watch. I'm not saying "don't buy this disc", but I *am* saying "be well-informed of what this disc is actually like before you shell out big bucks for it". That said, I do enjoy playing this game when I feel patient enough to deal with the few songs I can do, and the training mode is really good; it's helped me in all my DDRing. All in all, this disc is fun, but is it over $100 worth of fun? Probably not.

Good job, Konami.

Konami has consistently been a crowd pleaser with its Bemani series of games, and this one is no different. The gameplay is fun, addictive, and encouraging. But more importantly, one has to recognize what Konami is doing with this game: focusing on a younger, more inexperienced crowd.

Although there are some crazy DDR kids out there (I only recently got romped on Saints Maniac by a 10 year old girl...embarassment), most of them wouldn't appreciate the beauty of DDR at the same level hardcore Bemani gamers would. This game offers easier stages (not all of them, however, are easy), more encouragement (namely, no booing when you start losing), and a more friendly atmosphere (Disney characters! Familiar music!) ON the whole, this product is infinitely more marketable than DDR PSX was.

Now if only they'd put all the softcore songs in one game and all the hardcore catastrophic mixes in another...

Oh, as for innovation (something everyone likes to whine about), remember that the innovation in DDR doesn't come from the change in system and interface (it is, after all, the same four arrows), but rather in the complexity and patterns in its songs. And for those of you who want something more solid, play 6th mix when it comes out - they added a "hold" key, where you have to leave your foot on the pad for the duration of the hold (paraparaparadise style).

A Great Game, Lacking Enough Disney Music

As the second DDR game released in America, Disney Mix had many expectations riding on its shoulders. While it lives up to most of them, it falls short in its own ways.

The Positive Aspects:
Disney Mix is especially good for beginners because many of its tunes are arranged with easy dance patterns. In addition to this, it helps the beginner develop well. With progress, the dancer is able to unlock the difficult maniac mode. This helps the dancer make the transition from beginner to intermediate all in one game. The mixes of Disney songs on this game are superb, bringing a smile to the faces of people everywhere.

The Negative Aspects:
The grading system of this game, while nice for beginners, can be too giving. It can really make a gamer feel bad when they switch to one of the other American mixes because they aren't as giving as Disney Mix. While the Disney songs in the game are superb, they lack in number. The creators included too many non-Disney songs. Since this game is marketed as a "Disney Mix", one would expect all the music to be Disney-related.

All in all, however, Disney Mix is a great game. Once again, Konami has given gamers a breath of fresh air, opening the dance floor once again to another selection of music. I definitely suggest this as a buy.

It's a great game! You maybe expect some great classics of Disney, but quickly notice that Disney put some effort in new songs and cool remixes. "Let's Twist again" and "Fire" are my favorite tracks! :)
Nevertheless, 1st - 6th mix (import) are even better!!!! ;)

see ya
