much like the movie

somehow, just like the movie, Alien the game has managed to remain relevent years after it was relaced. i think this is because they both use the same philosophy when it comes to horror. both the game and the movie are striped down to the basics of what makes a situation scary, no BFGs or ghosts or long complicated plots, just you, alone, in the dark. but just how alone are you?

(when i say Alien the movie, i dont mean Alien Resurection, whoever dirrected that movie should be shot)

In Alien Resurection (the game) you play as Ripply, you must work your way through the environments of Alien Resurection (the movie) and eventualy escape. the envronments arnt to creative, but their filled with the two scaryest things in existace, monsters, and dark. Amo is scarce and enemies are not, you must get the most out of what you have or die.
this game is insanly hard though, dont expect to beat it in a day.

its so cheap anyway, what do you have to lose?

Ahead, and behind it's time.

This could be considered the companion to Alien Trilogy as it takes place in the Fourth Movie following the first three presented in Alien Trilogy. This game featured controls that people are more familiar with in these days, but didn't understand at the time. The controls may be above average, and the graphics are excellent for the time, but seriously, the level design is a piece of crap! What kind of space ship is this? Very illogical design leads to BORING gameplay that is only fun for 5 minutes with invincibility turned on, otherwise you'll die in 2 minutes without it because you move soo slow. An interesting thing is that if you get impregnated by a facehugger you won't be allowed to go through airlocks or elevators, which is interesting that they followed through on this principal with the chestbursters, and you'll have to find a device to take out the creature before the time runs out. The thing that doesn't make sense with this is that even with a chestburster inside you, aliens will attack you, and that makes no sense. Facehuggers can also attack you by hitting you with their tails. Don't play this game, I'd rather watch the movie.

To really appreciate this game you need to play it with a playstation mouse, other reviews have raved about the graphics and how scary the game is but complained about the bad control method. I agree completely that to play the game with your standard analogue joypad is frustrating, but with a mouse it plays like any other FPS on the PC. If you don't have a mouse buy one it's worth it just to play this game at it's full potential.

An Alien Fans Dream

Alien Resurrection has to be my favorite Alien movie of the legacy and I was very pleased with the game. Sure, its a PS1 game but that doesn't change the fact that it is a great game. I think that the controls are great and very easy (unlike other reviewers). Many people have complained that using two analog sticks to move(one moves and strafes, the other looks)is tough but if you have ever played Max Payne on PS2, then I'm sure you'll get along just fine with these controls. As for the rest of the game, it is truely a masterpiece. The atmosphere is great and you actually feel that you are in the USM Auriga, traveling through the dark, seemingly abandoned tunnels, trying to escape the horrifying aliens that appear out of the shadows. There is no music (which adds suspense and panic), just the sounds of the creaky hull of the ship, Father: the super computers voice, and the breath of the nearby aliens. The sounds are actually recorded from the movie itself! The graphics are just the normal PS1 graphics you see in most PS1 games but they are just fine with me. The aliens can walk, jump, spit acid, communicate with eachother, and even crawl on walls and ceilings! And not only are there your standard aliens, but there are facehuggers that actually latch on to your face and put a chest burster in you that will explode from your chest after a while! Cool! And of course, as you've guessed, the alien queen and the newborn are in the game as well. This game is recommended to be played in the dark and it should be. It scares me to death in a good way in the dark and it makes you feel even more "in the game" in the dark. This is a must have game for any alien fan or just anyone who likes 1st person shooters. Go buy this game!! You won't be disappointed...

I like the alien movies. The game was very interesting. It stayed true to the movies and was very scary. But I must say It was very hard for many reasons. Like the game says It is best played in the dark. It is very hard to see If you have any source of light in the background. The controls were somewhat awkward. And it takes alot of memory to save. Even the plot and the actions you have to do to complete each chapter were difficult. In the end I used the cheat for god mode and had some fun. But with out the cheat I probably would not have completed the game.

Most horrifying game ever

Although I didn't think the game was all that good, it is worth playing atleast once just to see how scary it is. The good things about it are that it's better than the movie, the graphics are great & smooth, and the controls are great too. But the bad things are that its pretty boring after awhile, and is way too hard even on the easiest mode. But if you like getting scared, nothing comes close to this, not even The Thing on ps2. The game is so dark that you can hardly see, but that makes it better. As you wonder down hallways, you feel as if you're totally safe, then several aliens will suddenly pop up from seemingly nowhere and attack. And if you happen to escape from and alien, he'll be gone when you return, but then he'll pop out again just when you think it's ok to move. Its really exciting.

The Best!

The weapons are great and so are the aliens. The graphics are what really makes this game great. Buy it!

Almost as good as Quake II

Yes, the controls are hard. Quake II had the best configuration but there are six different settings from which to choose and after the first day you'll get used to them. BUT on that first day I found myself playing the same levels 8 or 9 times just trying to survive! It was fun, it was very scary, but it was just too damn hard! So, I highly recommend that you do as I did right from the start: Set the difficulty on Easy and use the Cheats to give yourself unlimited ammo. Conserving ammo during an intense firefight is not my idea of fun. Get yourself the shotgun and blast away! This also solves the problem trying to aim the cross-hair while running for your life! And those pesky face huggers! Ack! You'll need diapers when they attach themselves to your screaming face! This is a nice game. If you want a shooter that is almost as good as Quake II look no further. Just give yourself a fighting chance: tune the difficulty down and tune the violence up!

Fun, Scary, and very cool!

This is a fun game. This game keeps close to the alien movies, and especially to the fourth one. While some gamers complain that the game has a lot of dead space, with no killing, I didn't find that to be the case. I did cheat and use the cheats codes to help me get through the game, especially with those little facehuggers lying around the floor waiting to get you. The facehuggers can be frustrating, but with the cheat on, you don't die. I like the alien genre and if you enjoy the genre as well, you too will enjoy this game. It is great when it is best played in the dark.

Great Game! But Awkward Controls!!!

Alien Resurrection was a example of a great game. Great graphics, good sound, great gameplay, but it does suffer from one major factor (THE CONTROLS!!!). The controls are the only major issue in Alien Resurrection. They are awkward, sloppy, and just plain messed up! But if you give yourself awhile to work with it you will get it down in no time. Other than that it is one of the best games that I own. But gamers be warned it is given a M-rating for a good reason.
