...Ever since I got this game, I have given up on having a life and being responsible (much to the dismay of my friends and family)!

RollerCoaster Tycoon (RCT) is so entertaining and so well designed that it should carry a label warning relating to its high addictiveness factor, and the accompanying consequences (loss of sleep, loss of friends, loss of mind ...)

The game is easy to master and the instruction booklet is a short, quick read and provides interesting background info on the game. Once the basic manipulations are learned through experimentation (or the (too) simple tutorial), you can unleash your creativity in designing rides.

My only (minor) gripe is that it would have been great to have a "freeform" game (as in no objective where you get to choose your terrain) as the various scenarios become repetative after a while since they all have the same objective. I believe the expansion packs addresses this "problem" and it is already in my shopping cart...

Extremely Addictive

This is a really fun game... It was a little difficult at first, but once you go through the first scenario and understand the mechanix of the game, it's very easy to play. That's not to say that it's very easy to win... :-)

Anyway, I have a nine year old son. When we first got the game, several months ago, I set all the high scores. He couldn't come close. Each scenario lasts about two hours. By about the seventh or eighth scenario, I was not able to accomplish the objectives. About that time, my boy starts telling me that he is now setting the high scores. Sure enough, he is. I go back to the beginning and start reasserting myself. He comes right back and knocks me off again. Now, he is the leader in most scenarios.

Enough of that. This is a really good game. Game play and the interface are straight forward. The manual comes in handy once in a while. Mostly just for review and pointers on stuff you learn just by playing. I can't remember this game ever locking up on me. Graphics are primitive, but good enough for this style game. The music gets old after a while. The variety of rides available is good. The ability to manipulat the terrain to fit your rides in is a great addition. Learning how to go underground or over water is fun.

It's an easy game to learn and play. Throw in a little economic theory for good measure. Lots of fun. Replayability factor is high.

RCT is killer.

Who doesn't get a kick out of seeing a roller coaster explode into space after twicking with the speed?!! ;) I enjoy this game immensely and would highly recommend it and the addons, as well. Although some scenerios are tough, patience plays an immense factor.

Some of the peeves I have are: money and stupid AI. First, money. Hard to come by and quickly spent before you realize it. Second, the AI is awful. Maintainence men that do [nothing], even if you twick them to do the things you want them to.

Great game and a great way to get irked, mad and want to drown all of the stupid AI's in the game!!

If you want to play Roller Coaster Tycoon than you better schedule a couple of days free, because it is that addicting! The object of the game is simple, you must build a "successful" theme park. To accomplish this task you must hire maintenance workers, repair men, entertainers, and even security guards. Of course if you just want to do it half hazardously that is fine also and the game is very forgiving to first time users, but as you progress you will want to create the biggest and best park and this one goal will continue to drive you deeper and deeper into the game.

The game's graphics are very good for this type of simulation. As owner and operator of the park you are allowed to see the people and rides from a bird's-eye view. The best description I can give for the view is imagine the look and feel of Sim City but instead of roads and buildings there are rides and trails. One of the strongest features of Roller Coaster Tycoon is the flexibility the user has. It is your park and you can build trails that go under ground, up in the air or level with the ground. Also you can even design your own roller coaster and trust me you can even create the ultimate monster roller coaster that is only limited by your IMAGINATION!

The only weakness that I found in this game deals with the need for a fast computer. At the start of the game there are no tech problems but as more and more people visit your park the computer will have to compensate for the many individual movements of each person and thus slow down. Even though there is a slow down it is very slight but it can be noticed and might force the user to zoom out so that the people can not be seen and thus the program will progress at it's normal pace. Even with this said a fast computer (300 mhz or faster) will easily remedy this problem.

Roller Coaster Tycoon gives a new spin on the topic of simulations. With it's user friendly manual, outstanding graphics and informative tutorials the user will actually feel like he is creating a theme park. The only problem is the more and more you build the more and more you will wish you could be there riding your very own creations!

So much fun!

This game is so much fun. There is so much to do in this game, and it is so much fun to watch a theme park develope over time. The game has a number of senarios where you try to achieve a goal, such as having 1000 guests in the park. They progressively get more challenging making the replay-ability of the game very good.

This would make a good gift for anyone above the age of 10. Even adults would like it.

The one downside that I found was its compatability with Windows 2000. For some reason it has difficulty saving and loading games on my machine. The game is so much fun I had to go out and buy WinME just to install it to be able to play this game!

this game is WAY too addictive i could probably play this game for days nonstop if it wasn't for chores and bedtime and other stuff to do!!!
it's almost hard too get yourself away from it!!! i think i'm almost halfway but the computer freaks out over playing all day long after about an hour or two it says "this has performed an illegal program and must be shut down." anyway it's great i forgot how many parks you have to do but it's a perfect game nothing too bad with "violence" just people get on rides that are too fast or they drown or on occasion they'll get under a ride that your putting up and they get squashed!! but no bloodshed or bodyparts except on occasion there is a chair flying off a ride that's all red and there's red smoke around the ride but that's pretty much it!!!!!

A great game. Do Not Waste your money on Sim Theme Park,or Sim Coaster, this is so much easier to play, and has a lot more features. I loved this game so much, I went out and bought Sim Coaster, but I couldn't even learn how to play it. I highly recommend this game!!!!!

As one of the leading and most popular players in the Rollercoaster Tycoon online community, I would highly recommend this game to anyone. Prepare yourself to be on the computer at least five hours a day with this game. You'll never leave the house.

The Only PC Game I've Ever Played

I've never been a big fan of video/PC games until I saw my husband playing this game. I asked him if I could give it a try. It's the first and only time (so far) I've ever played a game for 8 hours straight.

Building theme parks, adding rides, vendors, trying to get those little park awards (and every once in a while dropping one of the puking customers into a lake).

This is one of those games where it doesn't matter if you're 5 or 100 (or even 40 like me), it's fun - it's addictive - it's actually even a little bit educational (budgeting money). A great game for anyone in the family.
