The Best Looking Game To Date

This game is just unbelievably gorgeous. The light shimmering off the surface of the road, proper reflections off just the windows (not the whole car), self shadowing objects...and the thing that is amazing....something never seen before, the sun lights actually burn the intensity of world objects....just like a real camera. Truely awesome! When it first was released we played it at work and about 15 people stood around the TV....all you could hear for 30 minutes was stuff like, "Holy s$@t!", "Did you see that??!", "Oooh my gawd...". This game looks that good, and the amount of stuff in the world is crazy....which makes the crash scenes sometimes unbelievably out of control!

Another unique aspect of the game is the platformer aspect to it, which I loved. Using the car to jump from platform to platform is a great change of pace and keeps the game fresh. This game is absolutely fantastic. The problem for me was, after I finished, I wished there were more missions (which I would say is a good thing). I was also dissappointed there was no multiplayer mode....anytype of multiplayer would have been good. Even just throwing people in a circular ring smashing each up would have been great.

I'm giving it 4 stars only because it is missing a multiplayer mode....otherwise, this game deserves 5 stars.

Beautiful graphics, but that's about it

Homer Simpson would have one thing to say about this game: "Boooorrring"

Wreckless offers stunning graphics, but very little in the way of gameplay. It is a good demonstration of XBox technology and very little else.

The game centers around a set of missions that put you against the Japanese mafia. The missions involve racing around a city and usually involve destroying something using your car (other cars, dim sum stands, etc). Missions are timed and you must complete sets of missions to advance. Completing missions unlocks new cars as well. All in all, the missions are diverse but aren't interesting enough to keep you playing.

The cars themselves aren't particularly easy to drive. They tend to have a lot of oversteer, meaning it is very easy to loose control of the back of the car. Weaving in and out of traffic at high speed is almost impossible with some of the vehicles. A bit of understeer and better sliding ability would make the driving aspect of the game much more enjoyable.

The major upside to this game are the graphics. They are just amazing. It is worth renting this game just for a few days of eye candy.

Also, the destructability of the city is very impressive. You can drive just about anywhere and hit anything, with all objects reacting just the way you would expect. At the end of a mission you'll find you've leave the streets in turmoil .. :)

Very, Very Poor Gameplay!

This game, I will admit, had me pumped up from the get go. Until I received it in the mail! Its a damn kids game. When you look at a title named "Wreckless" you think of a game that would forsurly show car damage right? All it shows is some dull blurs on your car. The realism gives you the feeling of your kids gameboy or something? I mean, when you crash doing 50mph you would think a part of your car might be damged but in this game, NOT! Dont waste your money. Burnout 2 would be a better pick, christ for that matter a slinky would give you more amusement than this!!!!

Wreckless shows why XBox is the 1000 pound gorilla of gaming

The days of Microsoft’s’ Midtown Madness and Need for Speed series seem so quaint as we look back with warm and fuzzy memories at gaming days past. And oh, where have all the big chunky polygon's gone and the flat textures and slow frame rates? Three or four years ago anybody who knew anything about computers and megabytes held out hope that we would eventually arrive at a time when video games would not only entertain us but would quite literally blow our collective minds and on November 15th, 2001 the future arrived with a bang and glowing green orb with the release of the XBox and Activisions "Wreckless" clearly illustrates why "the Box" quite frankly sets the standard in gaming.
Nearly every beautiful pixel in Wreckless can be crushed, driven through and or destroyed. People run for their lives in the street, buses zig zag to safety and every four wheeler on the road from the family sedan to cement mixers slam into walls, poles and each other in an attempt to avoid becoming just another fractured piece of scrap metal on Hong Kong’s remarkably crowded streets. Trying to describe Wreckless' stunning visuals is like trying to explain a sunset to someone who has been blind since birth, the graphics are so radiant and photo realistic at times that it’s easy to forget that the images flashing past your windshield are not lifted from some of Hollywood’s best chase scenes. Smoke swirls, sparks fly and neon lights explode into a shower of fire and illuminated glass! The cars you get to choose from are fabricated makes and models, no Mustangs, Corvettes or BMW's will be found here, my favorite being the scooter like police car (if you've seen the Depeche Mode video "Never Let Me Down Again" you'll have a clear picture of the kind of car I'm talking about) but that's part of the charm, who cares what the hood ornament says, the driving is fast and furious, the cars offer intricate detail and look amazingly realistic right down to the drivers behind the glass and that's all you need to know. The vehicles also take more damage than just about any computer generated auto to date, doors fly off, bumpers crumple and glass shatters, although the physics are a bit odd at times, it only takes the slightest miscue to find yourself spinning out of control and into an on coming bus and the controls can leave you a bit frustrated as your thumb finds the "black" button instead of "B" for reverse but those are minor points and totally forgivable considering the completely immersive ride Wreckless offers.
If you're a fan of Midtown Madness, Project Gothem Racing, Driver and Crazy Taxi, you get all three under one hood with Wreckless, a break neck romp that has very little to do with a real world driving experience but everything to do with driving like hell to accomplish your mission.
However, one of the biggest problems with Wreckless (which made Midtown Madness great) is it's lack of a "cruise mode" (which dropped my 5 stars to 4). Why not I ask, what would it hurt to let us wander aimlessly through the streets to discover the short cuts and wonders of this world. For the record, it was Midtowns cruise mode that kept me going back for more, two years running even after the races were long forgotten.
But in the end, prepare to be stunned by the stellar graphics and to yes Virginia, laugh out loud as you plow your way through Hong Kong’s incredibly crowed and drop dead gorgeous streets. At night or day (or dusk for that matter) there's nothing like Wreckless to provide more thrills and eye candy than any other driving game on the planet.
It's titles like Wreckless that make me glad to put the PC age of gaming in the distant past, with great titles like Wreckless and the power of the Xbox, all you get is uninterrupted monster frame rate fun without spending $10,000 to do it and in my book that makes XBox the best $300 I… well ah, my son ever spent.

Wreckless:The Yakuza Missions-A Review by NewAtomMan

Activison never ceases to make great games. When I first played Wreckless,I was instantly addicted to all of the smashing, crunching, and exploding.
There are two storylines to play:Dragon Adventure and Spy Story.

In Dragon Adventure mode, you are Madoka,a female police officer with a sidekick. You're out to get revenge because the Yakuza(Japanese gangsters) almost ran you over, and smashed your pudding. You'll drive a lot of cars, ranging from dune-buggies to motorcycles.

In Spy Story, you play as Ho and Chang, codenamed Hubby-Dubby and Chubby-Wubby.You're out to find out what the connections between the police and the Yakuza are. You'll drive a lot of cars, ranging from a 30-ton monster truck,to a really fast DeLorian(yes,a DeLorian)!

Each storylines have ten levels,Ranging from destroying an armored car to rescuing a Feng Shui professor.

You can smash and run over almost everything you see(except pedestrians).

Graphics:10/10

Gameplay:6.5/10

Sound:10/10

Controls:10/10

PROS
Fully interactive city(you can wreck pretty much everything you see)
Non-stop action
Awesome graphics
Simple controls
Good variety of cars

CONS
Only 20 levels
You have a time limit
No free-roam mode
Can be frusterating

Now,there is a GameCube and PS2 version of this. What's the difference, you ask?Well,in the GC and PS2 versions, you can shoot people, run them over, and hit them and send them flying. There is also more cars and levels.
If you're going to buy Wreckless for younger kids,I suggest you go with the Xbox version, because it's not as violent.

Overall,Wreckless is a game you definetly need to buy.If it's not in your library, then you should be ashamed of yourself!
Plus,Wreckless is a Xbox Platinum Hit,so it costs less than twenty dollars!

This is a lame game.

I rented this game and I played it for about 45 minutes. Then I turned it off. It was pretty bad for a couple reasons.
1. You have a time limit, which is barely enough to complete the missions.
2. The only way to blow up other cars is to run into them. This is so stupid because it takes a while for the damage to go down and there is traffic so you are constantly getting hit by other cars and then you have to catch up to the bad guys again.
3.There are no weapons. This kind of goes along with #2 but this game could be a lot better if they were weapons, like twisted metal, except in a different style.
4. There isn't much freedom. You can't just drive around like in GTA3, all you do is the missions, which get frustrating and so I turned it off.
Just about the only good things in this game are the graphics. The streets and buildings are very realistic and so are the crashes.
I don't reccomend this game at all. I think it was a wast of my 5 bucks to rent it, so it would absolutely be a waste of 50 bucks to buy it.

Wreckless is a mix of the best games!

Wreckless is the kind of game you can't stop playing until you beat it. The game mixes elements of San Francisco Rush, Test Drive 6, and Blast Corps. You can play the game as two different teams of two characters, and each team has a different set of missions, you can also earn and unlock a total of 12 cars, including a monster truck and a tank! The graphics are stunning especially when you watch a replay, it is the most realistic car game I've ever seen. So if you're looking for a very entertaining game, with a large variety of missions this is it!

Exciting Game, Little Replay Value

This game is pretty cool, the graphics are awesome, and the characters laughable in my opinion. However, there is not much replay value in it. You might want to rent it first.

Awesome, but could improve!

I love wreckless. I will admit that it is a little short and once you beat it it becomes one of theose games you pcik up every once in a while. My main complaint is that it dosn't have multiplayer. If it had multiplayer I would love this game soooo much. Another thing is that I wish you could drive around the city for as long as you want and when you want to take on a mission you go someplace where they tell you, like GTA3. That's about it, awesome graphics. I suggest this to anyone who likes to have fun wrecking things!

Great mindless fun

When I first played this title, I had thought "what the heck was I THINKING?", but after giving it a few more tries and learning a few steering tricks, I actually started to appreciate it more and more. Wreckless is a game that grows on you.

It's essentially a game of Tag, except that you have race around the streets of Hong Kong hunting gangster cars. Some missions you just have to bang into them once, and others you have to beat them into junk. Getting in your way will be winding streets, girders and street signs, and oncoming traffic. Also, depending on the mission, the gangster cars start hunting YOU!

This game is absolute eye and ear candy, and the detail is incredible. Sparks fly as you scrape a building and panicked pedestrians scramble out of your way as you race down the road. You can even see the damage your own car is taking as you continue colliding into things. At the end of every mission you can see a replay of your driving, and watching yourself commit 500 hit and runs is as fun as playing the game itself.

If you're looking for a game that challenges the mind, well, this ain't it. The only challenging thing about playing this game is learning how to steer your car without flipping it. If, on the other hand, after a long hard day, all you want to do is play a mindless "beat your opponents into submission" game, this is a game that delivers that, in spades. Committing hit and run certainly never looked so good.
