Ever since the debut of Kirby for Nintendo Game Boy in 1992, I've been a major fan. With his Game Boy sequel, an SNES sequel and countless, excellent spin-offs (Block Ball, Pinball, and my favorite, Dream Course), I am glad Nintendo has not forgot about our favorite creampuff.
Like a good majority of all the other Kirby games, this one is easy. It is a 2 and a half d platformer, and remains faithful to the originals. There is no analog control sadly, but the d-pad holds up quite well. There is rumble pack support too.
The level design is very good, and the graphics are really colorful and pastel like. I am a huge fan of 2.5d games, but what annoys me about this one, there are no branching paths, say, as the Playstation masterpiece Klonoa. Oh well, it's still good and entertaining.
Kirby, of course, can still eat enemies. But this time, he has a ton of new abilities. The best part about this feature though, which has made Kirby games so classic, is that you can now combine any two abilities to make a totally new one. This is a very nice touch, and is very enjoyable and adds a lot more to the game. Sadly though, Kirby doesn't change into costumes that much like previous installments...
The game has some great movie sequences (cinemas), which tells the story. These are incredibly bright and fun to view, as is the story is very good. Some are serious moments, others are comical. For each one you see, it becomes unlocked in the movie theater section of the game.
The game, despite it's difficutly, boasts good replay value. In order to complete the game 100%, you must find crystal shards. Some are easy to find, and others are very well hidden... and you'll have to think on how to get to them (i.e., which abilities to use out of the dozens of combos). Also, there are 81 character cards to collect, which add more as well.
That's not all! There are three, three really addiciting mini-games, not that stupid Pokemon Stadium stuff! These games are just as enjoyable as the actual game, and I wish there were more. It can support up to four players, as well as computer opponents on four difficulties: easy, normal, hard and intense!. "Checkerboard Chess", has you scrambling around a checkerboard, blasting the floor beneath your enemies and to make them run out of all their lives. Another involves you hopping across a path avoiding obstacles, and finally, you must capture fruit from a falling tree, while trying to steal oncoming pieces from your rivals.
If you're a Kirby fan, this game is a must for you. Even though it is a tad easy, and I feel it is missing a little something, the replay value is surprisingly good and the mini-games rank right up there with Mario Party, maybe even better. Hopefully Nintendo will keep the Kirby franchise alive... I wish they'd release some merchandise for him. It's only been eight years since he's been on the market and in the hearts of games.

kirby 64 is completly awesome good graphics great story and kirby has 28 attacks to use with 25 levels and five worlds kirby should make the right summer title for you Some call it a puffball, some call it a marshmallow, but most people prefer to simply call it Kirby! Kirby has the amazing power to inhale enemies, acquire their attacks, then unleash them in brilliant new ways. Help Kirby and friends valiantly fight to save the peaceful fairy folk of Ripple Star from the marauding Dark Matter.

When Nintendo released word on Kirby, the little rubber-esque pink ball that can suck in enemies (but you should know that) would be on N64, I flipped. This game is the funkiest Kirby game yet. In one instance, the Kirby trend will start to rise, and *POOF!* the trend will peak again. In the game, you can do the classic: suck up enemies, use their attacks, and fly. But a new feature has been added: the ability to mix two attacks. You can suck up enemies in all sorts of ways to help whip down the enemies. Kirby may very well become a popular name again.

I know what you're thinking: A SIDESCROLLING adventure game for Nintendo 64? Who'd buy that?
Fear not. Kriby 64 is a gorgeous and entertaining game. I had lots of fun playing it, cutesy as it may seem. This is probably the best sidescrolling game ever; everything looks 3D, and the view actually pans and zooms as Kirby moves along. Unlike the highly cartoonish Yoshi's Story, this game manages to suck us into its colorful and whimsical worlds.
The plot involves Kirby's attempt to stop Dark Matter(again) by finding all the broken shards of a powerful magic crystal. Accompanying him on his quest are a cute little gut named Waddle Dee, a fairy named Ribbon, a painter named Adeline, and Kirby's old nemesis, King Dedede, who is apparently trying to make up for his villainous past. Their journey takes them to far distant planets, and some very wierd locales.
Kirby 64 takes things from previous Kirby games and improves upon them. Perhaps the best element of the game is Kirby's copying ability. Not only can he steal the powers of his enemies, but he can actually combine them to create new, outrageous abilites: he can turn into a refrigerator, shoot guided missles, transform into a gigantic snowflake, or weild a Dark Maul-esque lightsaber -- to name but a few. As for levels, the game includes the usual meadow/volcano/underwater/mountain/etc. levels, plus some inventive new ones. My favorites include an evil shopping mall, a vast desert UFO, and an oily sewer system.
The enemies are fun, the bosses are inspired, the music is extremely cool, and the cinemas, while wordless, are well-made and entertaining. All in all, this is a great game for Kirby fans and those who need a break from the likes of "Resident Evil." I really enjoyed it, and I'm confident that many others will too.
PS: Did I mention the multiplayer mini-games?
(Ah, the magic words!)

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, is a very fun and interesting game. I enjoy playing it a lot. My favorite part is the end when you are on the picnic blanket and you have to jump onto what you want. I already beat the whole game. I enjoy trying to collect all of the enemy cards. I like it when you have to beat the boss. In the beginning it was so hard but once you beat it and play it over and over again, you really start to get the hang of it. I think the easiest star to beat was Pop Star because it has really easy levels. Another easy one to beat was Ripple Star. It only had four levels and they were all easy. My favorite enemies to copy are the snowman and the spiky guy. By mixing those two together, you get a snowflake. There were some things that I couldn't figure out but I got most of them in the end. I think that buying Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was a very worth-while experience.

Kirby is a great game but it was a bit too easy. The graphics are good on this game, they are not exactly Perfect Dark but thats what we dont want, we want a game thats okay in graphics and great in gameplay and thats whats delivered through Kirby. The levels are plentyfull the appeal is for all ages and it is a game that you will go back to, so i recommend making the investment.
A really cool game even for a girl

Kirby is da bomb, I love this game. It is so much fun, there are 6 planets and 4-5 levels in each. Pop star, Rock Star, Aqua Star, Neo Star, Shiver Star and Ripple Star. At the end of each level you get to play a bonus game where you have to option to select the Enemy info card. There are a total of 81 cards. Also there are 3 different mini games. They're real entertaining too. Kirby gets to combined its powers and eat its enemies, he could fly and do all kinda stuff. The purpose of the game is to collect all 100 crystals. There are lots of symbolisms in this game. You might need to purchase the Kirby 64 The Crystal Shards Strategy Guide to find them all. But overall the game is really easy, even my brother a 5 years old enjoyed it.

Kirby has done it again, but this is the very best Kirby game in the world! The new attack,"Darth Kirby", is the ultimate move! If you liked the other Kirby games, after you play this you'll be saying, "What's Kirby's Dream Course?"

We purchased N64 for my son for his 5th birthday. The two games we had were Star Wars Pod Racers and Pokemon Snap. Both games are fun, but very frustrating for him. He needed help to play both and sometimes chose not to play.
This summer, I purchased Kirby--The Crystal Shards, and he absolutely loves it. He is only 5 but had the moves mastered after only a few days. Now, three months later, he is still having a great time with it. It is an excellent choice for those with younger N64 players. Easy to learn and give them confidence to play the more difficult games.

Kirby 64 is cool. Combining attacks is the best. However gamers beware this game is only semi-3D which means you can't move toward or away from the screen. You must use the control pad to move as well. The multi-player mode is only okay. It's basically a bunch of minigames where you and your friends challenge each other. But platform gamers will have a pretty good time with this game. It's also puzzling. The bosses are new or improved and there are lots of new options but there is still some classic Kirby in it. Buy this game or at least rent it.
