I found this game to be not only a bad attempt at remaking Quake64, but a stupid and imcompetent one. Somethimes, a dark and grainy enviorment is necessary for a creepy enviorment, but the way Doom 64 exploits it just chews up the scenery. If you're looking for an effective horror game that used lighting, music, and gameplay correctloy, get Quake 64 or Quake 2
Sooo scary

This game is really scary. After playing Quake it was strange goin to the system with no looking, no jumping....but instantly i got into this game. The level design is superb, implementing the hub design sometimes and the linear shoot and run design. Ambient noise will scare the crap out of you, i started sweating on level 7. There are also tons of tons of secrets, finding them makes the game more fun and easier if you get them. This game is very hard though, be prepared to die, or be very cautious. I say get it if you are a true fan, especially if you liked doom originally. I missed opening a door and having 35 imps firing at me, 4 polygonal characters in goldeneye just cant hold that fear. I say if you like doom, get it, turn off the lights, turn up the music, and blast away.

I can't honestly see why this game wasn't taken straight from the drawing board and chucked in the bin. If you want a monotonous, time-consuming, repetative and tedious waste of money with the graphics that make the Gameboy look hi-tech then this is the game for you.....but don,t say I didn't warn you !
The only real interesting new feature are the great graphics

Other than that, everything else in the game is just plain BORING.
The main problem with this game is the levels; most all of them are small and enclosed. Though the other dooms had similar levels, they also had many large ones and many open spaces. Not so with Doom 64. I swear; save for the last level, there isn't 1, not even ONE level that has any large open space. Add to that the fact that the levels are pretty smal to begin with, and things just get worse.
Another problem is that the levels are too easy to beat; virtually none of them have any sort of "challenging" aspect at all. Those that do just failed to keep my interest like the older doom games.
Last, there are too few levels. I think the number comes to no more than 30.
This game also did not live up to its potential. There is only 1 new weapon (the laser). It would have been good if it weren't for the fact that its full potential can only be used in the very last level of the game. All before that, its barely better than the fist.
This game's graphics are amazing though. Its fun to run around and blast all those amazingly detailed enemies. But thats the only redeeming feature I saw, and in my opinion, its certainly not enough to save it.
Doom 64 for is good for a weekend rental at most. But if you want a quality Doom title, go for... well, virtually ANY other version of doom on ANY other system.
This is bad

The graphics should have had a more 3D feeling. Everytime I walked around a demon carcass it looked the same as any other. It also turned so I only saw one side of it. The guns were cool the first time I played the original Doom,10 years ago. There wasn't any plot behind the game. A blind monkey with half a brain and no arms could at least make it to the last level. The ending was very bland. Everyone who played Doom 64 is now dumber after the experience.

Most people would believe that Doom is dead. I don't think so at all. This game is perhaps the best Doom game to date. I thought it was an awesome edition to the Doom lineup. The only reason in my opinion it didn't get a 5 star rating is because of the fact it has no multiplayer ability what so ever. However, keeping in mind that it is simply one player, it is a very good game. I recommend you buy it if you have always liked the Doom genre. It has everything you could ask for including weapons such as the Super Shotgun, B.F.G. 9000, the Rocket Launcher, and my favorite, the Plasma Rifle. It also has a new weapon, (the laser) which in my opinion can decide the fate of our Hero especially in the harder difficulties. It also has totally redesigned creatures, and 32 brand new levels of chaos. Not a game to play in the dark...
Awesome Fun

I bought this game for my son, and he loved it. I have to say that he was hooked, he even got me turned on to the game. One of the best games we have ever played. The not knowing when or what was around the next corner gave one the creeps. This was six years ago and we still love the game.
A good game to rent on the Weekend

Doom 64, ain't all that bad, But as for Me I wouldn't buy it. I did rent it, And I enjoyed it for the time I rented it. But, I think this would be one of them game's that get old in a week. Doom 64, is a Shooting game. But, it does not have no Multi-player mode. The are a lot of level's in the game, But one thing that I didn't like, is They all looked the same pretty much, Just with a better name. The level's looked good, And 3-D. But, everyone and Everything in them, looked like it was paper glued on. The best thing to do, Is Rent it for a week-end And, see how you like it.

Oh dear god... What is Nintendo thinking?! This game is the worst I have ever seen. Everything is wrong. It may be a little scary when the sound warms up, but when u see the ugly miscrient that lurks around the corner it looks like a pixel blob of colors. The environments look a little cool, but the controls are all wrong. It feels like your gliding across an ice rink, which personally I don't enjoy durring shooters. There are alot of better titles out there for Nintendo 64. This one is sooooooooo bad, that you might wish to rent it for laughs with your friends. Peace
