Good game, but frustrating technical problems

First of all- to all you whiny reviwers complaining about the christian aspects in the game, SHOVE IT. you can call it "religious" if you want- I call it reality. Funny how nobody would complain if a game took up darwinist dogma or bought into pagan theology... Anyway, aside from the ending the only "christian" thing in the game is that some clues have been hidden in the book of numbers ( oh no! how terrible! get real.)
My only problems with the game have been technical. I once got to the end only to discover my inventory had suddenly dissapeared. also whenever opening drawers or boxes a huge green rectangle appeared in the middle of the screen blocking most of my view and ocassionally crashing the game. I never did get to see the ending... arggg!...

Boring game, but a nice concept

After installing the game and seeing the intro clip I was very excited to play. The clip was well written, visually attractive, and informative of the history of the sphinx and the great pyramid. Unfortunately, that was the peak of my experience with this game.

ROTS is a game I wish I could return for a refund. It is boring and clunky and slow. I've got a 2.1 ghz laptop--that's 2 generations newer than when the game came out--and it was still slow. (This is because the author went a really cheap route and used quicktime for the graphics... and 'quick'time isn't at all.)

Beyond that, the first few puzzles are simple annoyances, then obscure without warning, and then ridiculously obscure. After a few fairly simple puzzles, you're stuck in this small boring clunky world, pending the solution to a very obscure puzzle. You have to enter a code somewhere before ANYTHING else happens in the game. I cheated to get that code, just to see if I was missing anything interesting later on. The code was ridiculously obscure, and I would have felt very cheated if I had spent dozens of hours trying to guess it. After that, a whole new exciting layer of chambers opened up. Except they were just a boring labrynth, and it was too nonsensical (huge labrynth in the middle of the pyramid?) to be exciting. The puzzles appeared to revert back to trivially simple (i.e. move the mouse around and see if the cursors changes, and click on it if it does). Virtually nothing happens in the game. No interaction with other characters at all. No depth at all. BORING.

On the bright side, I really appreciate the original concept of the game. If done properly (and a little less unbelievably), it could be really fun and informative and even thought-provoking. The visuals are decent, and they did a nice job on some details inside the pyramid, but other things are totally phony and cheesy. I think the idea was good, but as another reviewer mentioned, there were only two people working on it. That's why I gave it 3 stars overall. If this had been a big team, I'd give it one star.

This is one of the best I have played so far; it really keeps you on your toes-- if you miss something you have to go back and find it or you will never solve the puzzle! I went back several times, but it was worth it to finally solve the puzzle.--Awesome!!!I'm looking forward to the sequel (Omega Stone)

Technically unusable on my XP box

WinXP w/1Gb RAM, NVIDIA GEForce, Athlon XP 1.3Ghz, with the 1.01 update from Dreamcatcher. The software was so buggy that I ended up tossing it after one night - really. The game would sometimes start and sometimes crash with a Macromedia [tm] Projector error. I was never able to use play all of the tapes, even after following a "workaround" from DC's web site. Didn't pay much for it, but it was not worth the frustration and this will definitely be my last Dreamcatcher game. No problems with other non-Dreamcatcher games, like Myst III Exile on this box.

Good, but not one of the best adventure games...

I got this game when I was on vacation. I got home, and started playing. The game itself was very captivating, and interesting. But the graphics, even though they were pretty good, were kind of hard to follow. Some of the details were hard, too, especially navigating. I turned in circles and walked around the Sphinx four times before figuring out how to use the navigating system, and I still have trouble. The game froze sometimes when I was listening to tapes, and when you had to open the padlock in the tent, I had the combo right but couldn't figure out how to use it. But, it's guaranteed fun and very cool game. If you like adventure games with a twist of mystery, this one is for you!

Great Game!

I love Egyptology and enjoy a good game now and then, so I was really looking forward to this one. The opening graphics/movie and the music are cool, but, beyond that, I found the game itself to be *painfully* slow and unwieldy. If you are used to playing real games (for example, Diablo II), you will be disappointed with the slow, difficult movements of the character and the lack of ducumentation or clear direction. I spent the first 30 minutes of "play" just trying to make him MOVE and get somewhere INTERESTING. I tried it again, today, just to be sure, and I had to sit through the entire opening movie all over again. (And, it's long.) There's no apparent way to skip the movie/intro and escape directly to the game. Once inside the game, the program couldn't find my last saved game and then closed with an error when I selected "new game". (I use WIN2000Pro and have no problems running Diablo II with the expansion on my sys.) There's no way I'm restarting it and sitting through the movie yet again. :P This game is being removed from my system and I'm giving it a thumbs-down. You may have the time and patience to figure this one out, but I just want to get on to playing and having some FUN... ;-)

Nothing but trouble

I am hoping for a "Riddle of the Sphinx for Dummies".
I have never had this much trouble with a game in my life.
The game constantly stalls (on me at least) and is difficult to try and maneuver through. Would be happy to purchase "Book of Dead Ends" if it ever came back into print.

Go ROTS GO!
