The visuals presented in the game are stunning, but gameplay itself is (in typical Sony style) boring, repetitive, and extremely maddening. Most of the actual game is composed of a few simple actions: 1) take 10 steps, 2) bump into someone, 3) watch a quote slowly scroll onto the screen, 4) click a button to watch the other side of the conversiom, repeat 3 and 4 ad nauseum until the "conversion" is finished, then repeat 1 through 4 for each other person along the path. When you finally finish the boring conversations, take 10 more steps to bump into something to kill, click like mad to figure out how to kill or be killed, rinse and repeat.
The other thing I do not like about this game is that the game has to be completed in stages before it allows you save your progress. This is maddening because I find the game presents various "monsters" throughout each stage that are relatively easy to defeat, but the last one in the stage is usually much more difficult and requires several attempts to figure out. Unfortunately, the obligatory death in the last scene requires one to start over at the beginning and this eventually becomes extremely repetitive, boring, and frustrating.
Sony has a fairly decent gaming platform in the PlayStation 3, but Sony continues the same lame strategy in every game it produces so I use my PlayStation 3 exclusively to play music and movies.
A nice game with nice gameplay

This is the first action/adventure title that I purchased for the PS3. I'm not a very advanced gamer, but I've been able to make decent progress. I think I'm about halfway through after playing on and off for about three weeks.
I think the graphics are outstanding and I don't find that the camera angles are annoying like some other reviewers. All you have to do is practice how to control it (you can either pan with the right joystick or auto-center on the direction that the character is facing by pressing R3).
The story is fairly interesting, but it's moving somewhat slowly for me (maybe this wouldn't be the case for more experienced gamers or those with time to play more often). It is trying to be enthralling, but I'm not there yet. Maybe it will pick up in the second half.
You get to play each chapter from one of two points of view and there are some forks in the road that you have to choose. I'll have to play from certain savepoints again to see what is different with the other choice. After doing the first chapter with Ellen, I've been going back and forth and doing two chapters at a time with each character.
The sound is great (I'm sending the digital optical output through a Dolby 5.1 system with a subwoofer) and the occasional movie interludes (which include voices) are also very good. I suppose that more voice acting throughout the game would be nice, though, as many have suggested.
Still, the designers were very creative and it is definitely worth playing.
Beautifully rendered game for ps3

This game was my third game for the ps3 but I wish it was my first, the graphics and story line were amazing. I have a one minor complaint about the strain of capturing the Folks id's on my hand. You can only shake, tilt and jerk up on the controller for so long before you need to rest.
I highly recommend this game for those who like fantasy flavored RPG's
So much fun! Folklore makes me happy to own a PS3.

Folklore is simply one of the best games available for the PS3, especially for those who are looking for more of an RPG experience. The game has beautiful graphics and a storyline that will keep you playing to see what happens next. Best described as an action-RPG the majority of the game is spent fighting enemies and capturing them to use in real-time combat. Boss fights are epic against giant creatures! There are two playable characters with storylines that intertwine and influence each other. Add on the availability of downloadable content including more costumes and more missions and you have an even longer and more fun experience. My only complaint is that the gameplay can get a bit repetitive after a while, especially some of the extra missions which tend to be about going to a certain area and killing a certain monster or number of monsters, but not to a degree that I stopped playing or got tired of the game. Also, FYI, the extra missions and costumes for download do have a small cost. The artistic style of the whole game is unique and beautiful.
This was the first game I bought for my PS3 and it was both a great game to play and showed me what the system was capable of. If you want a good action-rpg type game for the PS3 with great graphics and a good story you can't go wrong with Folklore.
great game, awasome graphics

Foklore is a very rich RPG regarding the gameplay and all of the emvrioment, if you do have a HD TV you will experience the true grafic of the game, also the game develope in a small town but full of mistery and the fact that you have to play from the point of view of the 2 characters making you dont be able to get out of the great story suround of myth and mistery Folklore is a top RPG it dosent matter if wich console we are talking if you are an RPG player Folklore is a game must to have...
