My son got this for Christmas also and to see all the pros as little kids AND cartoons I love these series of games, plus they are not hard to navigate the game. My little one likes to play them with his big brother and now we even bought the baseball one for GBA.

backyard basketball is okay but it lacks so many things. For one it's way to easy. Second not enough pro players you can just take all the pro's if there was more it would be harder. Third no pro teams it would be better with pro teams so then it would be at least a little bit realilistic.
Okay, I guess.

This is probably the best backyard sports game yet. I love collecting power-up`s. But I agree with other reviewers, it is much to easy. After a while it can get boring clinching the play-off spot, staying undefeated, win by a huge margin each and every game, easily winning trophies, etc. I would still put this down as one of my favorite games, though. I enjoy playing as superstars such as: Kevin Garnett and Lisa Leslie. I also like playing as unbelievely fast Pete Wheeler, spanish talking Pablo Sanchez, (for you cheaters I know what your thinking), and baseball star Kiesha Phillips. Please buy this game!
Fun, but needs a little work

When I got Backyard Basketball I was so excited! I would play and play until I got a little tired of it. I rated this item a 4 because I think they should put in real NBA teams instead of created teams. I also rated it a 4 because I think that you should get to play with 5 people on the court, not 3.
140-2? That's Not Right!

Don't get me wrong, this game is pretty fun. At first. When you get used to the controls(that'll take 1 minute), the game loses interest. Why? You can't lose. I don't think I've ever seen a basketball game that has ended 140 to 2. If there has been, I know one team that's pitiful. You can draft the worst players and still win by 100 points.
The game starts by picking your team and making your coach name. Then, you can pick through an average amount of players for your team. It doesn't matter what their stats are. You'll still be undefeaten after the season. Then, you play the game. Why is this game so easy? But, the only thing keeping you from a 200-0 game is the fouls. They call an unbelievable amount of fouls. Can you move without getting a penalty?
But, after you turn the fouls off, it's not fun. But, it's not fun with fouls, either. That's a problem. If this game was harder, you'd have a great game. But, it's not hard, so it's not fun. It's fun to have KG on your team scoring dunks from half-court. You can substitute when a quarter gets over, but if you do it, the commentary doesn't pick a Player of the Game. That's a good thing about the game. Who will get the Player of the Game? The best player doesn't get the prize, though? It's usually the amateur player that scores 2 points.
Oh, well. There's NBA Street for a good power-uppy not real basketball game. There's NBA Jam for big-headed weirdos playing basketball. And, you can't abandon the NBA Live series for good ol' regular basketball. I'll give Backyard Basketball an average 3 out of 5.
THE BEST BACKYARD GAME YET

This is easily the best backyard game. I've been playing the backyard games since the original Backyard Baseball! So I know. Pete Wheeler is funnier than ever (I still get a kick out of him everytime he says "One Time It Rained.") Dmitri Petrovich finally found a sport he rules at (Pick him, He can shoot a three pointer from anywere). And its easy to win! IT RULES ON THIN ICE!
way too easy.

Don't get me wrong though, I like this game. But even the hard level is child's play. However, this game is designed for kids 5-10. I like it, but it is too easy. My best game so far was 132-12. I think that even a 5 year old wouldn't have a problem kicking everyone's butt in this game. Its fun, and anyone who likes the other Backyard games (hockey, soccer, football, baseball) will like this one.
Pros:
- Very simple controls
- Not hard for little kids
- No offensive content (it is, however, targeted to younger persons)
Cons:
- Way too easy for older gamers (e.g. 9-12)
- Gets stale and repetative after awhile
Altogether this is a good game, but if you are over age 9, this one will be way too easy and you shouldn't get it. Otherwise, you will like this one. It's fun, just too easy, which is why the younger audience will like it.
Very Good!

This game is not too hard. I haven't gotten too far, but I can tell it's really great. I would recommend this game if you're not familiar with backyard sports, beacuse I brushed my way through most of it. Try checking this game out.

This was disappointing. After Backyard Baseball was a tremendous hit with our 4-year old. Backyard Basketball doesn't live up to the Baseball game. My son & I were both expecting another 30+ professional players that we could learn their names and statistics together. Instead, unike the Backyard Baseball, this product isn't endorsed by the NBA as significantly. It would be great if the software maker put out updates each year so that we could buy another set of players to add to the roster to pick from each year. In general, I'd highly recommend the Backyard Series of PC Games, kid's love them, and they put hours of time into learning how to use them. After getting past the initial disappointment of only learning Kevin Garnett's name, we still enjoyed this game.
