A Very Good Game

Ni.bi.ru is a very good puzzle/mystery game. The story is addicting, the graphic beautiful and the voice of the characters are great! Perfect of me, since I like learning English! (My frist language is French, that why... But I like improving my English's skills!)

A fun, well-animated adventure

If you like third person adventure games that includes intrigue and murder without too much gore, this might be one for you. Since there are other things written on the plot summary, I'm not going to relate the plot here; just tell you what I thought of the game. I will tell you that most of the story is good but some of it is not that great. Sorry if that sounds vague. For most of the game, you explore and solve inventory puzzles. Sometimes it can be a pain trying to figure out what to do with items. The best thing about this game is the array of places to explore. There are European street scenes, underground tunnels, a Mexican jungle and more. The game is very well animated and has good sound effects; especially the rain. So if you sometimes get antsy exploring the same fifteen rooms throughout an entire game, you might want to consider Nibiru. The voice acting is decent; not great, but decent. And the characters are fairly well animated. There aren't too many difficult puzzles, but there are some, (warning! there is one puzzle that is really tedious!) One of the worst things about this game was the ending. It was unrealistic and a little unsatisfying. I'm not going to tell the end here, because I don't want to spoil it, but I wasn't impressed. But, if you just want to play something different, then consider this game.

Lame dialogue leading to anticlimax

Features include annoying main character with lame stilted dialogue (eventually I just clicked through all speech, of which there's tons) and unbelievable character actions. Simple linear game play. Main menu hides in the upper right hand corner - have to hover over it a while, or you'll never get out because the escape key does nothing. I quickly looked up a walkthrough so I could just get on with seeing the semi-pretty pictures and be done with it.

It's a good game if you like to go back and forth asking a guy for a bucket of water. There were a couple clever puzzles.

I liked this game because it has beautiful/amazing graphics, and you don't have to run around slaughtering anybody or chopping heads (I don't like bloody games). This game is very relaxing, it's like watching a movie and also participating. This is definitely not an action game, it's more like Nancy Drew. The ending was a little disappointing but I had a great time playing, and I am happy to have this game.

It was OK, I guess

I have just recently finished the game. I only paid $[...] for it, so it was a good deal. Everyone knows of the adventure game genre. There were some good things about the game: the graphics were beautiful, foreign places. The game plays very straight forward: linear. There are only a few puzzles, one I found a little tricky. If you like this type of game, you might really like it. Not too many mind-twisting headaches. Overall there wasn't too much too it. A lot of dialog. It seems to me the game companys are making their game shorter and easier these days. I hope this review was useful.

Okay but not great.

This was the first PC game of this kind that I've played. As a beginner, I found it interesting. I like that you really have to think about the situations and use your brain. Having never played a game like this before, I admit that I had to look up online hints every now and then when I got stuck. The puzzles seemed pretty hard to me and I had to consult walkthroughs for most of them. I have two complaints: #1. The subtitles contain spelling and grammar errors. Don't the programmers have spell check? Or a dictionary? #2. The ending was somewhat ... anticlimactic. I just expected more. That being said, it's not a bad buy for the $10 I paid for it. I'd like to try more games like this.

Disappointing

The only reason that I did not give this 1 star in each category is that it did fairly well in the "creep me out" factor in a couple of spots.

Issues I had with the game:

Needless profanity. If you're going to swear, have a reason other than trying to make the game seem--and fail--to be more adult oriented.

Mindless tasks. The puzzles were challenging but not impossible, the mindless tasks (talk to the guard four or five times without accomplishing anything in between conversations) is a common complaint and rightly so.

Worst of all? The ending, I mean I went through all that for such a worthless ending? Let me put it this way: Everyone dies for nothing. I was so disappointed by the ending that I immediately uninstalled the game and will definitely not be returning to Nibiru. In fact, the only good thing about the ending is that it was so final that there's no chance of a sequel.

its an okay game

This is a great game to spend a Saturday on. Its very short but the graphics are really good. Your character does move way to slow and the dialog can get pretty boring at times. I mostly like the puzzles, some were a challenge and to me the best but I am able to do a Rubik's cube so... with that said If you want action this game is not for you. If you like to take things slow and relax then buy this game.

Good, but not Great

A typical Adventure Company release - point and click, lovely graphics overall, rock solid and enjoyable and reasonable voice acting.

I've only played the game for a few hours, but I think that's a good enough sample by which to judge the product. The game features the usual inventory-combine items - click on the screen - to activate puzzle solutions, which you either like or not. I find it logical, easy to use and enjoyable. I also like the fact that you can play the game without a CD in the drive, if you do a full install

It's very like the same designer's Black Mirror, with lovely rendered scenery, some awkward character movement and the need to re-visit people or locations several times to find clues or items. However, the voice acting is far better than Black Mirror, which was so silly as to be comical. There are a couple of in-jokes (all right, then, "Easter eggs") about Black Mirror, too, if players keep their eyes peeled.

The pace of things can be a bit slow at times and the main character walks like he's got gout, or arthritis, or something. Still, the scenery and the gradual build-up of the storyline mean that you tend to overlook these irritations and enjoy the game.

However, if you want action, buy Tomb Raider or one of those awful `shoot em ups': NiBiRu is recommended for adventure game fans.

There are many more worthwhile games to play

My list of complaints about NiBiRu is very long, but it can be boiled down to a few items:

1. The most frustratingly linear gameplay I've ever experienced. You must often talk to people (that your character says they have nothing to say to) two or three times before you get results, and often in a certain order. If you solve a puzzle before the game 'thinks' you should, it has no effect - you must proceed to click on items or people in the right order until you reach the scripted 'puzzle solving' point.

2. Bad (and somewhat racist) voice acting. The main character speaks in a stunted manner that becomes very annoying. Everyone but the main character has an accent, and all of them are poorly done. The NPCs are almost all bad stereotypes of various nationalities, too.

3. Wildly varying puzzle difficulties. Some are so easy they're no fun, and one is so hard I was ready to quit the game even when I had the printed solution sitting right in front of me (that's right, I had to look it up before I smashed my computer). Most are middling in difficulty, but you must still do every single action in the right order to complete them, even if you have it solved in your mind and can do it faster.

4. The main character is totally unlikable. He whines, he lies to almost every NPC just to get his way, he does really underhanded things to proceed in his quest, he is a poor depiction of an archaeologist... Not someone I can relate to as I play through an entire game.
