I thought the game was very disappointing! It only offers a few puzzles, some are mind boggling, but there is at least 90% of talking involved!!!! It really got on my nerves! Furthermore, the game is unbelievably short! You can finish it in about 6 hours relaxed.
I recommend "Lost in Blue." Now that was fun and it kept you glued to the DS for days with lots of interaction and puzzles!

Trace Memory was the first title I purchased with my beloved Nintendo DS system. When I first got it, I was excited to embark on a deep, thrilling murder mystery game filled with twists and turns and "Omygosh!" plot shocks, that would keep me up well into the night.
Sadly, I was horribly wrong. When I first picked it up, the first thing I noticed was the fact that the game was morbidly texty. In other words: If you didn't know how to read before you played this game, you were so very screwed. This game REVOLVES around reading text box after text box of mediochre dialogue.
The second thing that I noticed was how important it was that you noticed even the SMALLEST, borderline invisible details. For example, if you did not touch the EXACT place on the screen where you needed to examine to find the key to the next room or puzzle, you could sit there and gradually get more and more frustrated until you threw your DS on the bed and caved in to looking up the answer to the puzzle online.
The third and final thing that I noticed was that while the story was decent, the ending was extremely predictable and came FAR too soon.
To give you an idea of what I mean by far too soon, my total play time by the end cinema of the game was SIX HOURS and THIRTY SEVEN MINUTES. No game should be that short. The re-play value of this game is practically zero, since there is no way to deviate the plot (in a 'choose your own adventure' kind of way) and all the puzzles remain the same.
The next day when I finished it, I called the man who sold it to me to ask him the sell-back value and said I was finished with it. He told me to come back and get something different (Since I had JUST been in to buy it the night before.)
So basically, do what I did. Save your thirty dollars, and buy Nintendogs instead.
Happy Gaming!
Over too fast

I saw this in the store and was really excited to finally see a RPG that made use of the touch screen system (most the others that are now out were not available yet). Bought it, took it home, and popped it in.
Things started out ok, but I had a dreaded feeling in the pit of my stomach. This game had SOO much potential. It rarely uses the camera, all the puzzles are easy to figure out and I finished the game in a couple of hours.
Not worth the time. If you want to try it, see if you can find someone who was unfortunate enough to buy it and just try that out. Don't waste your money on something that won't entertain you for more than a few hours.
Can't wait to see what's next! Wait...It's over?

The title of this review sums up my feelings on Trace Memory.
It had a great, interesting, engaging story that didn't last.
It's as if your favorite soap opera only has 3 episodes.
The puzzles were interesting, but sometimes you've figured out the puzzle before the character in the game has and it makes you want to scream as your would at the television.
I'd be surprised if you get stuck, but if you do, it won't be for long.
The clock that keeps track of playing time in the game clocked me in at 3:29 (three hours and twenty-nine minutes) (yes, you read the parenthesis correctly).
Thank God I paid 11 bucks for it. It's definitely not worth the full price.
Not worth it.

I really wanted to like this game. It looks gorgeous and the plotline intrigued me right from the start. Where did it go wrong? Was it the fact that the puzzles were so obvious that they functioned as merely timekillers? Was it the fact that most of the touchpad interaction seemed tagged-on and ultimately useless? Was it that the plot turned out to be predictable and cliched? Was it that the game was so linear that I couldn't have gotten lost if i tried?
Maybe it was all of the above.
Great, but short

This game was a lot of fun, and at times a challenge to play. However, I was able to complete it in one night. I just feel as though potential customers ought to know that they are not in for a long game, or a game with much replay value.
Oh Poor Trace Memory

The concept behind Trace Memory wasn't that bad. I actually sort of enjoyed the game while playing it. Nitpicky on the details, like other detective/clue searching games on the DS, but man did this title get overshadowed by the likes of Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center.
I think Trace Memory wanted to be unique, like Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center. And the graphic work and gameplay really wasn't that bad. In the end, I think the shadow cast by the DS juggernaut Phoenix Wright was just too big. The price at which Trace Memory is available masks an actually decent game.
I bought mine for $7.99, brand new. I bought it a while ago, and I was thinking to myself, my goodness this must be a terrible game. But give it a try. There's a possibility that I'm writing a sympathy review for this one because it wasn't given much of a shot, or maybe cause I just wrote such a derisive one about Pokemon. Haha.
But seriously, Trace Memory isn't so bad. Not the greatest, but not too bad. For game details, read some of the other reviews. I'm not big on giving out too many game details.
Trace Memory can be found, sadly, for a whopping $12.99, or less. Man, I feel sorry for Trace Memory, and it's not even a person. Poor Trace Memory...
Great game, but too short and a bit aggrivating.

I absolutely love puzzle games, especially ones with beautiful artwork like this one did. However, I did think that a bit of the repetition in the typing was a bit overdone, and I thought it was kind of a pain that you had to sit there and do three things before you could pick up an object you know will be needed later. I also was dissapointed on how short the game was. I beat it within two sittings, and those were relatively short sittings. I am hoping that there will be a sequel that will be longer, with less boring dialouge, and harder challenges.
Definitely good fun for the younger kids

I bought this game because it was the cheapest DS game they had at Shopco at the time. For the most part, the game was fun and the graphics were very good. The puzzles are challenging enough to keep kids entertained, but there is a lot of reading so very young children would not be able to understand most of the story or puzzles. Was able to keep me entertained but I wouldn't ever play it again.
Some cons:
The music: There are only a few songs on this game that loop, and for some reason kept giving me a headache. You might want to turn off the volume for the duration of this game.
The puzzles: Half the time, I had already figured things out before the lead character did...she won't always pick up items unless she knows she'll need it and sometimes you have to keep running around trying to find something else so that she'll say, "Oh, I need to go back and get this item that I saw" because she wouldn't pick it up the first time. I found the game actually a bit predictable, but I don't think a child would.
The duration: It only took me 6 hours to beat the game. I wish it would have been a bit longer.
A step in the right adventure direction

I am a big fan of adventure games, specifically point-and-click ones. I decided to try this game and it had all of the elements of a good adventure game but no cohesiveness. Figuring out puzzles weren't logical and running to pick up an item to stick it in another room seemed ridiculous. It was hard at some points to understand what to do. I liked the ingenuity of using the DS's dual screen though for some of the puzzles. Overall, I am looking forward to seeing if Hotel Dusk is more of a refinement on what Trace Memory has done.
