Not worth the money

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 4

This game had an interesting plot but I found it to be way too easy and it took me less than a day to beat. I'm hoping I'll be able to trade it in because there is little to no replay value.

Some of the puzzles were difficult, but mostly the game just involves walking around and searching different areas to figure out what to do next. Beware: There is a LOT of talking. This is a hugely text-based game. If you don't like that, don't get this game.

I wish that it would have lasted longer than it did, but because it took me less than a day to beat, I just don't think it was worth it.

Also, I wanted to note that the graphics on this game are pretty nice. Some of the best I've seen on the DS.

Bummer!

I thought the game was very disappointing! It only offers a few puzzles, some are mind boggling, but there is at least 90% of talking involved!!!! It really got on my nerves! Furthermore, the game is unbelievably short! You can finish it in about 6 hours relaxed.

I recommend "Lost in Blue." Now that was fun and it kept you glued to the DS for days with lots of interaction and puzzles!

Fantastic Storyline just WAY TOO SHORT!

Trace Memory has a great storyline and in my opinion has better graphics than many for the DS. However, this game is SUPER short. I completed the entire game is less than 8 hours. I believe that they could have stretched out the game a little longer. I enjoyed this game because not only was I wraped up in the story, but this game really gave the DS the chance to do everything it was meant to do. You can use the stylus or you can use the buttons through the whole game. I prefer the stylus but again that's my opinion. - You can also use the microphone which I think is WAY cool! This game has many different puzzles too! I rated Trace Memory 3 stars overall because of the length of the game. If you are a relentless player like I am you might be VERY disappointed with the length of this game. But if you are player who plays a little every once in a while. You will most likely LOVE this game. I'm not saying I don't love it but it's too short for me!!!

Renaissance of Myst-type games on the DS

This game is too short, which is a pity, considering it's very well-done. The developers make clever use of the DS's unique capabilities. I recommend this game to the intellectual gamer with a long attention span

Awesome game that ends to early

I just finished Trace Memeory and I really enjoyed it. It's about this 13 year old girl named Ashley who, until a few days ago, thought her father to be dead. She travels to Blood Edward Island with her aunt Jessica to discover the truth behind her mothers death and her fathers disappearance. The game is straightforward for the most part. It took me only 5-6 hours to complete over the course of 2 days...and a lot of the time the game was on without me playing. But of course, there are the pros and the cons.

Pros:

-Simplisitic, usar friendly game play
-Good story-line
-Decent graphics

Cons:

-Tedious puzzles at times
-To short

Good pick - for a short game

I truly enjoyed this game. Working a full time job and taking care of the house I don't have much time to devote to a game so I hate that I tend to never finish them. This game was short but not to easy so I was actually able to finish in a short enough time that I could still remember what I was playing. It also makes very good use of the DS features which were a lot of fun to figure out. My husband enjoyed listening to me giggle as I figured out some of the trickier pieces.

Just what I was looking for. Really enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this game! I was looking for a game just like this; Where you have to find clues and figure things out to advance. This is the perfect game if you're similarly looking.

I'm not a "gamer" so the short length of the game didn't bother me at all. In fact, I felt guilty for the 5 hours it took me to beat it. I popped it in and couldn't put it down. 5 hours later, I was done.

The dialogue is pretty lame at points, but that's not what it's about so that's forgivable. Yes, some of the puzzles are no brainers, but it's still fun to complete them.

There are parts where there is lots of dialogue at a time and the characters just don't shut up. you already know where the story is going, but in an attampt to make it more dramatic, it just keeps going and going. Especially at the end when you enter the cave, make sure you have half an hour to finish the game.

I was also amazed at how every feature of the DS was utilized. Like the part with the wooden stamps, for instance... wow. I don't want to give away anything, so I'll just say that this was a really fun game.

I must say though, I needed a "walkthrough" to get me through some parts that I couldn't figure out. Again, I'm not a gamer, so I probably would have a accused this game of being stupid and unbeatable. Luckily, I found a guide on the net and I was able to enjoy Trace Memory in all it's brilliance. Here's a link to the guide I personally used. There are some variables because I guess there's an overseas version that this guys refers to here and there, but it's still a great guide.

I beat the game in a day, yet it was a fun game with good graphics

This game is a good game if you like puzzles. If you don't like puzzles, you probably will not like this game as much. Though I could be wrong. In the game you can take pictures of your surroundings. You use the touchscreen, and meet a young ghost named "D". I give the graphics 3.5 stars and the hardness of the game a 4. I suspect if you get this game to get it and trade it in at one of those places where you can get another game or a little money for it. :D

Fun Concept, But a Little Thin

"Trace Memory" can be summed up as a point and click mystery with a couple of twists for the DS. You play a young girl travelling with the aunt who raised you to a mysterious island to meet your father, who you believed had died years ago. Before long, you find yourself separated from your aunt and exploring the island with a ghost who has lost his memories of his previous life.

The gameplay is pretty starightforward; you explore your surroundings on a mostly preset path with numerous puzzles scattered throughout. The graphics are prtty good with a Japanese-influenced style on the characters. Most of the puzzles utilize the DS's special features, sometimes in pretty unique ways. They can at times leave you a bit stumped, especially if you aren't familiar with everything the DS can do.

The main drawbacks of this game are its short play time and the lack of freedom to really explore. You can finish the game in just a few short hours and it's tough to miss anything the gam wants you to see. There are a few little bit of story you can skip over and supposedly playing through a second time gives you a special bonus, but chances are you won't want to play through the game more than once or twice at most. Still, it's a fun and engaging experience and you will feel pretty good about yourself when you suddenly figure out a puzzle that's been stumping you. It's good as a rental or if you can find it for below retail.

I wish we could give half-star ratings...

...because I'd give this game four and a half if I could. It's not quite a five-star game, but pretty close!

The plot is simple enough; it centers around Ashley Robbins, a 13-year-old girl searching for her father, a scientist who studied human memories and who ran off for unexplained reasons when she was three. The game takes place on the eve of Ashley's fourteenth birthday (cleverly, the game uses the player's month and day of birth as Ashley's; so in my case, the game takes place on October 27th, the day before my own birthday). Early in the game, Ashley meets a ghost who only identifies himself as D, who was about her age when he died 60-odd years ago; and as the game progresses, she has to do double duty, piecing together not only her own past but D's as well. The ending varies depending on whether or not the player performs certain actions at different points throughout the game.

The gameplay itself is loads of fun if you're like me and you miss the classic graphic adventures of the 80's and 90's. All of the elements are there: Challenging puzzles, great (and funny!) dialogue, a story that's well-written and engaging without being overwhelmingly complicated. The best ending, if you can get it, unlocks the "starred" game, which is identical in almost every way other than a few minor differences; if you can beat THAT with the best ending, you're treated to a bonus puzzle which strongly hints that there may be a sequel.

Which brings me to my only issue with this game. The path to the best ending isn't always as clear as it could be; unfortunately, if you miss even the tiniest step, the game ends on a significantly less satisfying note, and for the player who's not aware that there's more than one ending (like I was at first), it's easy to assume that the game is supposed to end that way. I'm glad now that I didn't write this review after I beat the game the first time, because I probably would have only given it three stars. My advice, if you don't want to spoil the game for yourself by consulting GameFAQs, is to save often and try EVERYTHING. Truthfully, though, even if you don't get the best ending, the game is still loads of fun, and definitely worth a look if you're the puzzle-solving type.
