HARD TO IMPROVE ON PERFECTION

It really is hard to improve on perfection. There are a few games that come out every year that make you say Wow, now this is what a PC Game should be. Then there are a few very special games that you find every 3-4 years that seem to stay on your hard drive for several years. This is one of those games. Age of Mythology is a masterpiece. Its one of those titles that us RTS buffs drool over but its also a game for those folks that strategy games just dont appeal. There is something for everyone here. The 3D Engine that powers this game is amazing. As soon as the opening movie starts you know that this is something special. This game has the most realistic terrain, water, special effects ect... to date from a strategy or any other game type. The cimematics are beautiful and move a truly impressive storyline. The online game has a new proprietary matchmaking system as well that keeps a good balance for all skill levels making it much easier for novice players not to be so outmatched playing the online community. If you have played the Age of Empires series of course you will be right at home but this game is so much more. Three separate civilizations each managed in their own unique way throws curves at you just when you think you have it all figured out! The "God Powers" Tornados, Meteors,Lightning, (just to name a few) that turn the game in an instance is also incredible, be wise though because you can only "invoke" each power once per game. The characters are also very unique. They move as if they are truly real, not to mention the mythology creatures! If you want a title that you will not soon forget, look no more.
definitely the best game microsoft has ever produced

We'll it might as well be called that. This game follows the tried and true gameplay of Age of Empires and add's a few more twists to it such as god favor(a resource to manage) and god powers(abilities to help your civilization grow). The single player is long enough and very fun. Each civilization is very varied, however, there are only a few civilizations like in Warcraft 3. Still this is a great spiritual successor to age of empires and a great rts.
The end of an era.

When is comes to RTS, it doesn't get much better. Unfortunately, I think this format has run it's course. The designers of Empire Earth tried to put a new twist on things, but it was still just a glamorized version of Age of Empires.
AOM pushes the graphical detail about as far as noticeable, and threw in a few extras for gameplay, but after all is said and done, it's just another glamorized version of AOE.
If you're a die-hard AOE fan, you'll enjoy the eye-candy of a very familiar game. If you're looking for something totally new in the RTS genre, you'll probably have to keep looking.
good game... bad online play

The game itself is pretty good. The graphics are very nice and detailed and the singleplayer campaign is pretty good and lan play is good too. But i rate it 3 stars because the "Ensemble Online" network for online play is terrible! the community is very small (compared to battlenet/wc3) and you can't even join any online games at all if you are behind a shared internet connection (ICS, NAT, proxy/router) !!... even with the latest patches i still cannot join any online games. this is the case not only on my pc, but my family's pcs (all behind shared internet) and my friends computers that are also behind shared internet access. Hopefully they will fix this with a patch (although from the reading the readmes in the latest patches it seems like they are avoiding the problem).
So overall its a good solid game if you like playing alone or on the lan, otherwise expect trouble if you access the internet behind a router/nat and wish to play online.
Fun but short

As much as I enjoyed this game, I was saddened that it only took a little over a week to beat.
The single player campaign was very interesting to play. My favorite section of course was the Eqyptian campaigns.
I HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone that enjoys the "Age of _____" series.
It's only the best game that mankind has invented.

System Requirements: Macintosh computer with a 450MHz or faster processor, OSX 10.2.8 or higher, 256MB RAM, 16MB video card, and CD-ROM drive.
I didn't have a new version of OSX. It didn't run till I got my new Mac, with the latest OSX on it. Other then that, it is an awesome
game, with lots of new ideas from the AOE2. If you just got your Mac, get this game.
A very good RTS with an fun twist

Developer Rick Goodman has done it again- made a really fun RTS with some important new elements. The most important parts are the three unique civilizations, god powers, and mythological units. For example, if you decide to worship Hera, you can get Medusas and the lightning storm power. There is also a really good campaign, with more than thirty levels, where you play as the greek hero Arkantos. In all, this is a fun game that is definitely worth getting.
