I am 52 and have played many games but this is by far my favorite. I have been playing it up to 8 hours at a time. Most every other PC game I had tried failed to keep my interest or simply did not work. I am addicted to this one. If I was not retired I would probably get fired for stayin home so I can play this game. Fun way to learn ia bit about Mythology too.

Super. This is the only word I can use to describe this super-duper game. For one the graphics are super! The sound is super! And the gameplay is super-duper! Words do not eplain how I feel about this game. It's just so good I almost [wet] my pants everytime I start to play. In conclusion, I like this game!

Excellent Graphics, Soundtrack, & Gameplay

After reading reviews and researching this game before buying it, I can pleasantly say that it met all expectations! The soundtrack is great, the storyline interesting, and the graphics good quality. If I were to have ANY complaints at all, it would be that the ending was really short. Otherwise, I would recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of games like Age of Empires, Starcraft, Command & Conquer, and Warcraft. In my opinion, this one might just top them all...

First off this game is great the cinematics are awesome. This also comes along with a few downfalls, if you do not have a substantial video card it is not worth getting. If you do not have a decent computer with at least 20 gigabytes of memory left on your computer I do not reccomend this. Plan to get a better video card if you do not have a good one with the game or else you might be seeing Age of Empires the first graphics.

Excellent Game

I have played through CnC Generals, Warcraft 3, and Rise of Nations... some of the leading RTS titles today, yet Age Of Mythology has the right blend of depth and simplicity that makes it so much fun to play the single player. However, Warcraft 3 will likely beat it in the multiplayer easily because depth and balance become lot more important than simplicity and fun in that field. Overall, this is a refreshing title for casual and avid gamers alike.

For a quick comparison to the other two titles... Cnc Generals is a resource hog while AoM is smooth. Rise of Nations is tedious and a rehash of Empire Earth... or maybe Empire Earth was a rehash of Rise of Nations, only earlier in time. Whatever, AoM is better than both.

Excellent game, different and more strategic than Warcraft 3

I bought Warcraft III when it first came out, and make no mistake -- I love the game. In fact, when I first looked at Age of Mythology, I was a bit disappointed. I was always a fan of Tolkien and loved fantastic creatures and magicks, and while WC III plays to that love very energetically, AOM if anything seemed rather subdued, with all the civilizations and units looking similar.

But as I started to play Age of Mythology, I have to say I found it fantastically deep -- in many ways, deeper than Warcraft III. First of all, the civilizations really do have very different strengths with very different personalities -- the Egyptians have quick but thin-skinned mortal units, but powerful defenses, exotic units like chariot archers and war elephants, and field perhaps the most fantastic and deadly mythological creatures in the game -- everything from giant eagles to mummies to crocodiles that shoot searing beams of light. The Norse are quick and crafty horseback riders with no archers but the ability to decimate other units with lightning quick strikes and constant movement. Their unpredictable mythological units -- like packs of hungry Fenris wolves or the Valkyries, who double as warriors and first aid doctors -- add spice to their play. The Greeks are the Orcs of the Age of Mythology world -- their troops are tough and powerful and run over the armies of the other civilization if they catch them in the open field. Their mythological units embody this crushing philosophy as well, with minotaurs, cyclops and colusses rounding out their army.

The nice thing, too, is that the game is not prone to mass rushing, moves a bit slower than Warcraft III, and yet not so slow that it isn't as exciting or surprising. Because maps are bigger and units can be reproduced very fast, I find that battles tend to see-saw more in an exciting fashion in this game -- in WC, I found (often, but not always) that if you lose against the initial hero or huntress rush in the first 4 minutes, you've pretty much lost the game.

Check out the game. It's worth it. Hey, I wouldn't spend my time making a fan site about it if i didn't like it a lot, would I?

Loved it! Loved it!! Loved it!!!

I played Age of Empires II (AOE2) and loved that game so much I went out and got Age of Empires I (AOE1). I heard about Age of Mythology (AOM) and knew I had to get it.
I've always been a fan of games that make you think (Zelda, Deus Ex, etc). This game is so much better than AOE1 and AOE2 because the civilizations are all different. Rather than each civilization have 6 or 7 from every other civilization differences each 3 has literally about 100 differences. And the 3 that are similar still have a dozen diifferences. This allows for more variety.

Outstanding game that takes RTS to a new level

When Warcraft III came out, many hailed it as the new way of doing RTS games. After a month or so, reviews and emotions were mixed about the game, almost like it tried TOO hard to do something different.

With AOM, Ensemble has taken an already great product (AOK) and has re-worked the whole thing, adding new mythical elements in an entirely new 3-D engine. The gameplay and feel is very similar to AOK, though it is no longer the same, boring, mundane isometric view you're used to. This game is fully 3-D, and you interact in your environment that way as well.

With three civilizations to pick from, one might think that there is not much choice. But you can chose from 3 different gods within each tribe, each with their own power and bonuses they incur upon the player that uses them. Mythical units in this game are very powerful and can make short work of human units, but this doesn't mean they are invincible. Of course they will need protection and used correctly, you can wreck serious havoc with these units.

The differences between the civilizations was a major bonus in this game. In AOK, the differences were cosmetic at best, the very same at worst (save one unique unit). AOM replaces that. While the tribes do share some things, the gods you choose to follow are what make the differences. Also, the way you gather resources, what resources are needed for various unit/structures (e.g. Egyptians don't use wood to build), and what units do these tasks various from each civilization. Make no bones about it: you will need to gather a lot of food and gold. But the subtle changes in how you do this from each civilization is what makes this game so engaging on that level.

The AI is fantastic, as is the AI that governs your own units. Micromanagement is no longer needed as a #1 priority.

I could go on, but I'm running out of space. This game is an outstanding, solid game that no RTS fan should be without. It will appeal to ANYONE who has even the slightest interest in RTS games. Believe the hype on this game: It is the real deal.

Great follow-up

If you loved the original Age of Mythology- this is a great followup!
It would be better if the campaign part was a bit longer but it is still a great fresh addition to this game. The addition of the Titans adds a whole new dimension.
One can only hope that Microsoft will come out with another expansion with Celtic/Chinese mythology too!

Greatest Game I've ever played!

I've played this for 3 yrs. and this game is amazing. the graphics are great. i play random map and these are good things about it.
1) the different civilazations give u cool my th units whoever u r. here are some tips if your norse
if u play river nile when u advance to the mythic age u choose the god for jormund elvers. then have ulf sarks make like 3 doks and hve each dok produce 15 jormunds. (this shoud use around 120 pop.) now u should have about 45 jormunds. if u make them into groups of 5 or 10 and place them around the enemys side of the river you can keep the enemy from bording ships. also make some kraken or wtv the other naval unit should b. those can harass any ships tht do make it onto waters. this way now tht u hve control of the river u can delete some jormunds for pop. and make a huge army. u board those into transports and overwhelm the enemy. (i reccommend about 20 ballistas in the army bcause massed ballisttas are good to take the enemy out b4 they reach u.

here are greek tips.
i like to make around 30 gold collossus and put 10 into each of 3 armys. sorruond the oher 20 in each army with hoplites for cavalry protection. toxotes for infantry protection and cavalry of both types for infantry and cavalry. if u want also put some petrobolis in them.

for egypt players... sorry i've never played on egypt so your on your own with them.

Happy Conquering!!!!!!!!!!!
