a little disappointed

I love the TEKKEN series, having worn out TEKKEN 2 and TEKKEN 3...but I'm a bit disappointed by TEKKEN TAG. It looks great...there's no denying that, but the moves are basically the same as the earlier versions. I went through all of Julie Chang's 10-combo moves like I was playing T2. And that's boring. I was also disappointed by it's lack of 3D movement (you still only move back and forth)...I'm spoiled by Namco's SOUL CALIBUR, which has significantly more 3D action. This game is a nice VISUAL overhaul, but control and action-wise, you're still limited to the same old moves with the same old controllers. Too bad.

Tekken Tag is just okay

I rented a PS2 for my 9 year old son for 5 days along with 3 games, one of them being Tekken Tag. He has all the previous Tekken games which are his favorite. After playing for a couple of hours I asked him what is the difference between this and Tekken 1 and 2. He said, "when they talk, their mouths move now." Doesn't that say a lot? To me it means, gameplay is not much improvement and that is somewhat of a disappointment. He is not so impressed with the improved graphics and background which no doubt are better than on the Tekken 1 and 2 on the PS1. I will save my money and buy the PS2 when it and the games are a little cheaper.

Not as good as I expected

At first the game had graphics that I thought couldn't get any better, but when I saw the movies, I was very disapointed, because it looked just like the gameplay graphics, and the begining movie looked real. I beat the game with evrey single character, and saw the same old corny, short, messed up, no meaning movies. The movies lacked the great real 3D graphics of the past Tekkens. And The game puts up no challange, even on Ultra hard. And A big problem is u lose after 1 character is K.O.d. And it has nothing to do with the Tekken Series. The good thing is they brought back good old Tekken 2 characters(including my favorites Kazuya, and Lee) and it offers Tekken bowl. And they, as always, make the fighting graphics look great. If u love Tekken 2 and Tekken 3, this is a game for u. If u haven't played Tekken in a long time, this game welcomes u back with a warm reception, but if u want a Tekken game with meanin' wait till Tekken 4, cumz out September 27.

Can this get any worse?

I don't know why I keep buying games in this series, I now own Tekken 1,2,3,T and let me just say this:

If you're new to console gaming, if you liked games like "Street Fighter I" or "Sango", DO NOT buy this game. this series always lacked on playability and never got over the "click as many buttons as possible" rutine.

It's about time gaming companies like Namco will understand, that it's not about how many 'special' moves you got, and it's not about how realistic you make the game, it sure as hell not about the graphics or sound, and its not actions and reactions that makes a fighting game deep.

Breakthrough In Gaming Material!

I think this game is a great breakthrough in gaming today. It has been thoroughly textured down to each and every hair on each character. If you have ever played the past tekken games and liked them, then you will absolutely love this game! Each character has new moves to dominate all the other characters, and the video sequences are absolutely great! It has been perfected once again by sony. Also, the game speed is inevitable. It doesn't even have that much loading time. If at any time you doubt me, try the game yourself. I am pretty confident that you will change you mind.

Wheres the 3D motions? Wheres the excitement? Wheres my refund?
I bought it, I played it and then I stuck it in a time capsul and buried in my backyard. Hopefully Tekken 4 will have some, I don't know, uhm entertaining qualities you deserve from a PS2 game!

Weak...

Granted, I've never been a huge Tekken, but this game doesn't exactly strike me as being as good as others seem to think it is. The characters just seems stupid to me. They all have serious design problems that just seems to make them unpleasing to look at. Come on, a Kangaroo? A Dinosaur? A Panda? Or even the incredibly stupid looking P-Jacks. Perhaps this seems like a bit of my own opinion, but Namco showed awesome character design in Soul Calibur, I wonder where that went in this game. The graphics are great. From the lighting, to wind effects, it all looks good. My only gripe is the backgrounds. They really aren't 3d, and you can even see the cheezy line where the foreground and the background scroll past each other. It wouldn't be so bad except that you can see this no matter what as there are not boundries to the fighting area. The game is not even really 3d. You tap up/down and you barely move in the appropriate direction. On that note, the control seems stiff to me. I know I have already made one Soul Calibur reference, but watch how smoothly the characters move around each other. Note that position in the arena is important because of the boundries of the area. In Tekken, there is no such thing. The game might as well be 2d with the ability to move to the fore or background. And the moves list, while very extensive, seem to be rather bland and blend togather. A lot of them have almost exactly the same animations and even hit the same. If you look at how many moves are notably different, as in, you would be able to use it differently in a battle strategy, there's fewer moves than you might think. The characters also seemed very shallow despite me trying to uncover their various storylines. Traditionally, fighting games have never been too big on storylines. None of this is more true than Unknown. While her name may say it all, all she is mearly a copy of someone else's style for a short time. That's not being original. In all fairness though, Soul Calibur did the same thing with it's final boss. The final boss should be distinctive, not simply something you've seen before with a little more power. Perhaps a lot of this may seem like personal gripes, but comparing Tekken to other fighting games just seems to show how truely lacking this game is. I would advise you to rent this and compare it to other titles that you would probably be better off spending your money on.

well, i really liked this game when i got it and still play it every now and then, but the initial thrill is mostly gone. There are numerous characters to earn and moves to learn plus an entertaining bowling mini game, but this all becomes old news after a month. Button mashing will get you through this one, same as with all the other tekken games, but i don't see that bug ever getting fixed, so i guess i'll have to come to grips with that. Don't pay too much for this.

Awesome!

Tekken Tag Tournament is a great, action packed fighting game for the experienced gamer and beginner alike! Experienced players can work on their technique, learning all the special moves of each character, or focus on just a few characters to build up their skills and beat anyone who comes their way! Beginners can be just as good players by mashing down random buttons to see what happens! Hey, you learn by experimenting, and besides, who really wants to spend all that time reading the manual! This is a great game that you can start playing the second you take it out of the box!
