THE PS2 RUNE SUCKS

Tell you what, don't think that Rune is a bad game, it is horrible for the PS2 though, because sony playstation 2 is too weak to handle the Unreal Technology...BUT, the PC and MAC versions are a lot better.
OK, why should you NOT buy the PS2 kind? Just because the frame rates are low, graphic details look extremely blurry(you might even think you need glasses, because you won't believe that the developers would actually put such graphics for the PS2), and the controls are terrifying. There is only one, very minor pro there: the game is quite long, but since the two of the most important factors of a good game are so stinking bad, it does not matter.
I RECOMMEND YOU TO BUY THE PC VERSION, WHICH I WOULD RATE 5 STARS, ...

Vikings.Gotta love em.Tearing mutton right off the bone sans utensils,donning ever fashionable pelt and ram horn outfits,and never letting the smell of blood leave their nostril hairs,have established Vikings to some as the ambassadors for masculinity at its mightiest.Unfortunately,RUNE VW MAKES TIM ROBBINS FROM ERIK THE VIKING LOOK LIKE THE HARDEST NORSEMAN TO SWING A BATTLE AXE.Expect to laugh out loud when enemies sprint past Ragnar{so he has to run after them},make a U-ey then decide to attack him.Or how about the annoying falling boulders,oversized carp looking for lunch,and turnstiles that remarkably cause instant death.Weapons,albeit plentiful,aen't thrilling to behold or obtain.And cheesy haunted house style ambient backdrops,as well as voiceovers that come off amateurishly pitched down,not ominously Odin-ish,make one wonder if human head's just being facetious.All in all,since it's hard to take RVW's action or adventure elements seriously,it's snooze city.Shame.Never thought Vikings could be boring.

This game has to be the worst game I have played...ever in my life. The graphics were terrible, not anywhere near what the PS2 is capable of. Game play is very weak and boring, the blurry man viking is hard to control, and you have to save the game every 10 seconds. The load time is very slow, but not as slow as the storyline. The only good thing about this game, is that I rented it first, praise the Viking Warlord.

To quote one of my favorite simpsons characters, the comic book guy, this is the worst game ever. I was at the store and I only had .... I had heard of Rune on PC and it looked pretty cool. I saw it on the shelf and it was only ...I should have known that a PS2 game that is under ... is probably going to ... hard but, i bought it anyway. worst mistake of my life. THE GRAPHICS ARE LIKE SOME OF THE EARLIER RELISES ON PS1!!!! the controlls are allright. THERE ISNT A REAL STORY. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET FAR BECAUSE IT IS SO BORING TO EVEN WANT TO PLAY IT. when I look at my shelf of games the ones that pop out at me and scream "PLAY ME I AM FUN" are FFX (which is the best in the final fantasy series so far), GTA 3, Tony hawk 3, and metal gear solid 2. But little old rune is seperated from the rest. Its in the back collecting dust. I think im going to go spit on it right now. In conclusion: whoever gave this game over 1 star is insane. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!

This game is a waste on most every level

...I admit, the programmers did their homework and many facets of the game are right out of Norse mythology for the most part. But the fact that this game takes so freaking long to load in between levels is really annoying. Especially if you happen to get killed. I can understand a long load time if the level is massive with lots to do, but I swear I had a 2 minute load time for a level that I cleared in about 30 seconds. That wouldn't be so bad, but it happens again and again in this game. Rent this game if you must or wait for a sale, but don't pay more then [alot]for it or you'll be sorry.

Yes I know I wrote already but, I also forgot to mention the loading time of this game is about 1/2 a min every time it loads. Also, It seems like each level only takes about 5 min the you can save and wait another 1/2 a min. The animation is very weak and is a bit choppy and the camra angles while swimming are even worse than if you are on land. I own 30+ video games for the PLAYSTATION 2 and 200+ video games for the PLAYSTAION 1 so, I'm not blowing smoke out of my we'll you know anyways, If you bought it and liked it well happy for you but, I was disapointed. Sad to say $50.00 is a lot of money so, I think I'll read reviews first.

this game is one of the best games i ever played and i own just about every game there is for PS2. the one problem is that it loads/saves way to often. but that can be a good thing if you think about it. because what if you got realy far on a game and then for some reason you fall and die. than the game puts you back to the place were you last saved and you have to do it all over again. that really.... and i think that i speak for every one when i say that repeating the same thing over again can get boring

so thats why i gave it a 5 stare rating

I made the huge mistake of buying something without doing a little homework. Rune has awful control, poor graphics, and is generally a complete waste of time and money. I'm so embarrassed from buying this game, I filed it. There are too many great fight games on the market to bother with this.

Varied and atmospheric

I think what many reviewers here are failing to see is the overall game design and atmosphere. For a start, the graphics are quite beautiful and ground breaking for the time of its release. There are so many differnet locations, from dungeons to lovely outdoor environments. The landscape rendering simply cannot be ignored. One area to note is an ice cavern level where the frozen floors reflect the surroundings. Simply stunning!! Plus, the variety of environments! It seems never ending!! From celtic greenery to lava flows to ice to fantasy villages with fantastic machinery. The depth is incredible and the beauty, quite breathtaking!
The story also is quite deep and invloved which keeps the player interested.
The attack mode is basic but does invlove a lot of dodging which works really well with many of the foes. Also moving the camera view creates different strategic advantages when battling with various creatures.
Rune isn't a classic but it's certainly a beautifully rendered and thoughtful little gem that can suck you in and keep you entertained for many nights. Well worth a look!

the biggest pro of this game is the concept of norse vikings and all. the scenery is real cool. the "battle" or fighting isnt complicated but not too simple. so thats ok too. the controle [is bad], graphics are ok, and the sound is great. my biggest problem is that its so easy to get lost with no freakin clue what your doing. a few hints but nothing real helpfull. the biggest challenge is to not kill yourself trying dumb sh$t to make it through the level. all and all once you find out where your going, whats going on, and make it through the loading times, its a fun game.
