Over Hyped!

I just got a PC and was looking for a good strategy game to go with it. I already got Black And White 2(great game) and was looking for something a bit more historical. I heard Age Of Empires 3 was great, and was in colonial times instead of the overused medievel. Wrong!

This game has boring and steriotipecle. First thing gameplay is paper thin were all your do is collect resorces and make similar looking buildings. Also the graphics are a huge disapiontment. Realy my machine can run Half-Life 2 whith ease, while AOE 3's graphics look to be 16 bit Genisis style. So either the coverart is a lie or it takes a NASA computer to run this thing. Your home city is also an afterthought with only few powerups to use at a time and is the only pretty looking place in the game, while your village looks a piece of crap when compared.Their is even a glitch where if you save a game next time you load it it would be stuck in pause and you can't do anything.

The game also fails in the main idea, because you never feel like your colanizing the Americas with no historical maps and low influence around your acomplishments. If you play it that long before you throw it in the trash anyway.

So reward your computer instead of abusing it by buying Cilization IV instead.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack alone is magnificently captivating, having subtle hints that remind one of some of the music from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and The Godfather packed with aural authority and the feel-good nature of a Narada Christmas album. I bought the collector's edition, which comes with the soundtrack on CD, and I have been listening to it in my car during my commute. Track 21 is worthy of awards for sure.

Nice Formations, Awesome Soundtrack, Hot key away!

First, I just want to say that the game does have formations. To turn formations on, do the following:
Click [MENU] [OPTIONS] [UI OPTIONS] [Show advanced Formations]. Now formations are on.

I am running this game on an AMD 1.67 (~ 1900 GHz) with 512 MB RAM and a 128 MB G-Force 5200 video card. Since my CPU is just above the minimum specs, and since I like to run games at a resolutions of 1280x1024, I needed to adjust the following:

click [MENU] [OPTIONS] [Graphics]
change 32 BIT color to 16 BIT, and set the following:
Shader Quality to LOW
Shadow Quality to OFF
Anti-alias quality to OFF
Water Reflections to OFF
and basically have everything else Low or off. Just keep switching back and forth between the game and option menu until you have the desired FRAME rate and video quality.

Next [MENU] [OPTIONS] [GAME Options]
set [Camera Z00M] equal to "Very far away". Well hopefully you get the picture. Take a little time and tweek away. With the above settings, my frame rate is fast, and the graphics look good enough.

I do have an occassional problem with my machine getting a little too hot, which result my machine just shutting down. However, I find that if I frequently save the game (say every 10 minutes), the machine gets enough of a break that it does not crash (usually).

I enjoy this game due to the fact that I can play a game on level medium with one ally, against two opponents and finish the game in under an hour. The soundtrack is fabulous.

4.8 really- good, real good, but without that play-whenever-you-want-to quality of its predecessor

I'll try to keep this one breif. Age of Empires III is good- really, really good. Probably the best game of 2005. Great gameplay, great graphics, great fun in general.

Despite all of this greatness, it doesn't QUITE measure up to the Age of Kings. I mean, I still play Age of Kings to this day, I don't know if I'll be doing that with Age of Empires III.

Nonetheless, a great game all around, a must-have for all strategy fans. If you have a good enough computer, a real jewel.

Almost Perfect

Awesome graphics and cool to play. Only thing is some of the old options are missed in this version!

Great, if your PC can handle it.

I got this game for christmas and i was very excited about the RTS gameplay. Just to inform, i have an AMD Athlon XP 1600+ with 512 mb Ram and an Nvidia Geforce 6200. After installin the game i had it running an almost full settings. When i made a mistake with the sound and accidently pressed "Reset to Default" even the graphics were reset. I tried to change them back to the high settings but nothing happened, i was stuck with the "Squares" of smoke and all that. I even bought a new motherboard! Overall, great game but be careful.

boring, all same.

It may be good to just play one campaign. but no interesting to play more.
all campaigns is same from the view of strategy gamer. Home Cities is also bad idea,
that is not naturely embeded in game. C&C series has no such junk, each feature
is coherent with whole game.

Great game, if I could play the whole thing

I really like this game, however it has trouble running on my computer. I have a 2.4 Ghz pentium 4, 512 mb of ram and a 64 mb graphic card. Every time there is a naval fight or a big cannon fight, the game really slows down. Other than that "little" problem, the game is a blast. I had to stop playing in the middle of ACT III because it would literally take me six hours to beat it at the rate it moves (the snow level).

It is entertaining on many different levels. It is different everytime we play a different scene. The large number of maps lend multiple environments for your single player games. The one downside is that this game is a computer resource hog unless you have a gamer computer.

Age of empires III (read this one, it rules)

HI,

Age of empires ,or AOE3 as i will say, is brilliant. On it you can do numerous things. It has excellent graphics and a wicked campaign.

The campaign is in three acts, the 1st is about a man called Morgan Black. You play as him. Hes a knight of saint john, who fights the turks at the start with the help of his boss Alain. Alain sends him to the new world to stop the turks getting the fountain of youth (spouts water to make you live for ever). But Moragn gets ambushed by lizzie the pirate. He then goes on to defeat the turks. After that though he finds out alain works for the circle (evil guys) and has to destroy the fountain.

Scenario or single player.

You custom a game and can make teams and chose what country you are. You also can customise or make your on map , adding nature buildings and units where ever you like. Iwill soon write about the next part of thew campaign.
