A classic FPS but it's showing its age...

Like many other reviewers, I played Half-Life when it ws first introduced on the PC back in '98-99. The PS2 version is indeed bringing to the table nicer graphics,sound,framerate and the multiplayer(albeit two player)option"Decay",making it quite a hefty package. Truth be told,however, HF has since been surpassed by Red Faction, Max Payne and,of course,its many sequels,Half-Life:Counterstrike,Blue Shift,et al.In other words,like the Tomb Raider series,the original that started it all is showing slight shades that it's getting long on the tooth. Also,the PC version(and all of the sequels afterward)has online gameplay and patch upgrades whereas the PS2 is a stand-alone,making its replayability very questionable. It's also best to play this game in small bursts as the levels tend to become VERY lengthy and a bit repetitive. If Vivendi Universal/Valve(the game developers) were smart,they'd of held out on releasing HF until the PS2 network adapter comes in August '02 to allow the aforementioned online gameplay. I bought my copy used so it didn't hurt my wallet too badly. If you're a HF fan like myself(I love CounterStrike as well)there's no reason why you shouldn't own this. If you're just curious what started the whole storyline-influenced FPS craze,you're better off renting it.

If you've played this game on the PC, I don't recommend playing it on the PS2. Although it looks nice, the controls are so difficult. This isn't a game that should have been brought out for the PS2. The game itself is one of the best, only on a PC though.

"Half Life" sure does it for a scary, thrill-ride: this PS2 game has cool graphics, terrific, horrifying creatures, awesome guns and wonderfully-done characters and environments. This game is great for monster-lovers!! :)

This game is so great so let me break it down for you.

Story:Your a new Employee at the black mesa facility, your a scientist with military training your 30 years old and your name is Gordan Freeman.Your called to conduct an experiment by pushing a gem into a laserbeam(don't ask) but then the crap hits the fan.Weird mutations show up all over the building. So you think your screwed right? hell no, you pick up a 9mm and see what the hell happened.Don't worry your not the only one in this survival test, security guards have survived too and plenty of scientists so they will keep you company.The government sees what has happened here and they send in the United States Marines BUT their mission is to wipe you and your fellow co-workers out so good luck.

let me rate the aspects of this game into a scale from 1-10 10 being the best score.

Graphics-9(very realistic, the mutations can be scary at times)
Sound-8(If you hear a squishing sound u know a mutation is near,if you hear walkie-talkies u know marines are near.
Gameplay-8(awesome control)
Fun value-9(very entertaining)
Overall-9(A very fun game worth every penny)

Half life is very much Adventure + Thriller game that I have never seen before. But I have completed this game and I am searching for more 3d Adventure game.
