Crash Bandicoot : The Wrath of Cortex

Crash Wrath of Cortex has few strengths and many weaknesses. First off the graphics are excellent, with lush backgrounds and great animations. There are few glitches on the surfaces, and the producers have really used the power of the PS2 to the best of their abililty to pull these cracking graphics. However, they are rather childish, and may not appeal to older age groups. Still, with the fluid animations and beautiful scenery this is the best part of the games, and I give the graphics a 8/10.

The gameplay is almost identical to the previous installments, easy to pick up for beginners, acceptable for others. There is a total of 30 levels, five need to be unlocked by collecting relics, which can be obtained by completing levels in a certain time. Smash all the crates in a level and you will earn a gem at the end of the level. There are also various other items scattered around, including colored gems and skills. You can now play as Crashes sister Coco for the first time, as she has the ability to use a scooter and snowboard on certain levels, whereas Crash is involoved in certain places using a hovercraft, Hamster Ball and other stuff.

The thing that dissapointed me was how samey it was to previous titles. The controls had not been revamped, there were no new skills to learn, and it had a very similar storyline to Crash 3, where you had to find the crystal on each level and get to the end to complete the level. This gets boring after a few levels, and adds no replayablity value. The bosses are incredibly easy, and the whole game just plays like a modified version of Crash 3. I give the gameplay 4/10.

The sound is the usual cheerful theme accompanying each level, nothing special. There are some nice sound effects as enemies take a beating, but there is nothing of note here. A 6/10 would be appropriate here, just for average sound.

Finally the lifespan. At the start I was throughly enjoying the game, and enjoyed it all the way up to the final warp room. Thats when things hit rock bottom. As I defeated the final boss I just had no desire to play the levels again, to try and collect all the gems and relics. I just started to find things very boring and lethargic, and it did not make me want to play over again. 3/10 for lifespan.

Overall, average. Graphics and a few bright spots make it worth a try, but don't make the mistake I did and buy it. It has a short lifespan, can get very boring and is just a revamped version of Crash 3 really. Rent, but do not buy.

This is a pretty fun game. It was the playstation standard, y'know? I really wish I could love this game. I really WANTEd to love this game. But I want something more. I've been playing Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank and have been spoiled. Those games push the envelope!

The vehicles are cool, though.

i bought this because i liked all the other crash games. it takes forever to load, and it has to load a whole heck of a lot

I have all the other Crash games and while they are sometimes frustrating and difficult, they have a certain charm that makes them very enjoyable. This game is completely lacking the charm. Crash jumps like his feet are leaden, the jumps are very imprecise and difficult to gauge, the levels are very slow paced and quite frankly, boring. The backgrounds are amazing and the ideas behind many of the levels are very good but the execution is awful. The bosses are incredibly difficult and just annoying, as well. I very much like the concept of the elementals but as I've said before, the execution and game playing are just too clunky and random. To be honest, I am so disappointed in this game that I nearly cried. My son, who is 3, is happy with it but he's frustrated because mommy and daddy can't seem to do the 'hard parts'.

Hi. I'm Aaron. The second best Crash game created. This game makes Coco fully playable. So far, my only problems are: the levels are too hard and you should be able to select a character. Other then that, we're fine. The levels are really hard, but it's supposed to be a grand Crash game. The bosses are really cool! There should be a thing telling you how many gems are in the current level, how many gems are in the level, and if the level has any colored gems. But, the game has a good structure, the graphics are better than any Crash game so far (Crash is the cutest in this game), and the new rides are awesome and levels are really cool! I don't know any cheats for this, but I can give you a hint on beating the bosses. For boss 1, roll on the sides and Crunch should miss you almost every time. Don't let him get all the rocks. Boss 2, before trying to hop over and catch him, let him fire a round of his weapons at you. Sometimes, you need to crouch-jump do avoid having the platform sink. Boss 3, you'll never catch him unless you hold the circle button down when shooting. Boss 4, shoot where Aku-Aku (the mask with colored feathers that helps you) circles. Boss 5, shoot Crunch to make him angry enough to throw Cortex out where you can hurt him. That's a rap on this review.

I loved all the other great crash bandicoot games and got this one and wanted my money back. The lowding takes forever, the bosses are extremly hard, the graphics are still O.K. but this game doesn't have the sprake of ecsitement the other 4 had.

Hello.
Crash bandicoot wrath of cortex is the 6 crash game and is available for ps2 xbox and gamecube for the first time ever.
it's not that good as crash bandicoot 2 and warped but still it is good.
i have this game for both gamecube and ps2.The only problem with this game is the loading time come on it take's 2 minutes 2 load a level or you're load game.
Another thing is that. It's allways the same boss Crunch!
anyways i say that rent the game first and think twise before buying the game.

It's 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other. I love the game, but the long load times are frustrating at times. I heard at the local Electronics Boutique that this game will also be available for the Xbox and the Gamecube in the near future. So, maybe this will correct the problem. I would give the game 5 STARS but I have to deduct a star for the frustrating and unnecessary long load times.

This game should have been called the "Crash Bandicoot" screen saver with interactive extras. The load times on this game are miserable!!! Plus the game itself is not as fun as the Crash previous Crash iterations. It looks like Crash and play resembles Crash but it is just not quite right. If you played the previous versions you will probably be disappointed.

I am sorry, but!!! i have to say what everybody is saying this darn game is just bout loading, the game play is not so bad but i really prefer not watch a bandicoot falling for at lease 2 minutes before i can start to do anything, this game got to me by the third level i am so happy i did not buy this crap well maybe it's good game but!!!!! i had not the time to find out the loading is major set apart from other flaws and i really thought that this version would have been more interactive well,this game is a set back for a PS2 game oh please!!!!!!! what with the 2D anyhow i won't buy this, so if you try this then take whatever load of ???? you get laters folks/ gamers.
