Game lacks in what the first three on the PS1 had

To start off the game shows us just how great the PS2 graphics can be. I don't know if this is because Konami helped out with this or what but the game certainly lacks in what the first three on the PS1 surely had, and that my friends is gameplay.
Crash returns in this game to once again battle Cortex. The formula for Crash isn't changed much at all but this game suffers from what the first one suffered from. That my friends is Tedious load times. It takes a minute just to enter a level for crying out loud! The load times of this game definitely make this game suffer.
The in-game levels are fun, but are immenesly populated. Not just with enemies but with obstacles too. Some levels are also extrememly lengthy and it seems like your going to ask the question "Are we there yet?" several times.
Awkward camara angles in conjunction to enemy placements and platform placements was a pain. The camara would be at an awkward angle and you'd think the platform was in front of you, but you end up having to move to the right or left a bit. By the time you figure it out you'll probably have died several deaths that could've been avoided.
As usual the controls are very easy to learn and shouldn't be a problem to get the hang of. But sometimes the response of the controls can cause you to lose sometimes.
Overall this wasn't a bad game but it certainly wasn't a good game either. The series lost its edge of solid gameplay and went down to the frustrating level.
a review focusing on the GAME, NOT the load time

Since everyone here has already griped about the long load times for the game, which are annoying by the way, i will focus my review on the actual game. The game is great for PS2, crash looks sharper than ever on the PS2. But is it really worth it, if you havent played the regular playstation versions? The answer is probably not. Its still running straight forward or vice versa, and the levels are richly textured and have alot of fun things to do in them. But since all of the Crashes for the PSX go for less than 15 bux now, i suggest saving your money and playing them first. They are just as good, not graphics wise, but gameplay and level wise. Yet if you are a fan of the series this is not one to be missed. If you want a platformer for your PS2, Jak And Daxter is the obvious superior choice- theres no comparison... but if you need another one, this game is actually pretty good!

I would consider myself a Crash Bandicoot fan, so a bought this game, even after reading the reviews, which are less than great. I read about long loading times, no big deal. I read about same old stuff, so what, I like the same old stuff. I played the game immediately upon my reception. 20 minutes later, I was ready to get started. Why 20? Because these loading times are RIDICULOUS!!!! They'll force you to look at a floating Crash for 3 minutes just to get to the screen where you will load your game, which is quick, but then when you enter a level, it's back to the load sequence. When playing this game, get a book, you can finish it in between the gameplay. You may wonder why I still gave it 4 stars. I like the game, yes there is a game. Easy? Yes. But I still find it fun. However the levels are so easy the bosses are something of a shock, as you will have whipped through the 5 levels only to... yes actually lose a life. Crash fans will be initially disapointed, yes, but eventually pleased.
Good game but something is just not right...

I'm a die-hard Crash fan and I can hoenstly say the there's something off about this game. The load times are obnoxiously long, and some of the higher levels are way too easy and over too quick. Coco is now playable but IMHO she's impossible to control and doesn't do any of the "power moves" that Crash gets (Double jump, Wumpa Cannon, etc.). I'm not dissappointed that I bought this game, as it did scratch that 3-d platformer itch, but it's not the same quality of game that Naughty Dog made the series popular for.
Mediocre ... once it loads

Man, this hurts. I'm about to give a weak review to a Crash Bandicoot game. But golly, they've left me no choice.
The load times so many others have mentioned are certainly a huge part of the disappointment. But beyond that, the levels simply aren't as much fun as they were in previous Crash games. Naughty Dog didn't work on this game, and it shows. It ranks last among the Crash games in my opinion, and I was a big fan of all the PSX Crash games. The levels here are uninspired. The bosses are dull. The vehicles are no fun to pilot. You'll be fondly reminiscing about "Crash Bandicoot Warped" before you know it.
This is a game you should absolutely rent before buying. I wish I had. It's not awful -- it's just not worth the price or trouble.

I have liked all the Crash Bandicoot games, this one is just as good or even better than the games before it. The one thing that is frustrating about this game is that the load times are VERY long!!!! Thats the only downfall to this game.
The new graphics and 3D worlds and enviornments are really cool. Nothing like the previous Crash Bandicoot games. He has all the same moves, and some new ones that they threw in their.
Crash did not disappointment me at all!!!!!!!!!!

Crash 4 (I don't count CTR as part of the saga, it's just a side game) was what I had to have for Christmas, I thought it was going to be greater than ANYTHING I would have imagined.
And then my brothers and I popped it into our new PS2 and we were very confused and surprised that Konami and Traveler's Tales took the place of Naughty Dog.
It's great! Great graphics, great beggining story (very funny) and most important of all: Fun. The best of the series. And you get to ride in a gyrosphere...how can you not love that.
And here comes the flaw...it takes approximatly 44 seconds to load coming and going from every level! You can go to the kitchen and get a drink of water while the game is loading. It gets very annoying and I'm really mad because we all never had to wait for Crash to load, we were transported to the levels in seconds. I'm very disapionted.
I highly recommend this game, do it for the fun, the gratification, the excitement, the humour, and try to bear with the loading. Crash is BACK!
One of the best "Crash" games ever. But the loading time...?

I have been following the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy since the very first game on the first PlayStation. Most of the games are pretty good and fun. "Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex" was one of the best of the "Crash" games for sure. There aren't many changes in this game from the previous(adventure) games of Crash, except better graphics, moves, and a way better storyline. This game and "Crash Bandicoot 3: WARPED" are the 2 best games of Crash Bandicoot, neck and neck. "Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back" is the 2nd best of the games and then after that is the 3rd best game, "Crash Bandicoot", the very first one. "Crash Team Racing" was okay, for a racing game, but "Crash Bash" was definitely the worst of them all!! The only major complaint I have about this game is the loading time. I mean damn, what was up with that?! It literally took like a minute and a half for that game to load up every time you beat, leave, or quit from a level! It made the loading time for "Medal of Honor" seem short in comparison!
Still, the game is very cool, and what I definitely love most about it is when Crash Bandicoot gets to pilot those two mechs( the red fire-proof one with the water cannon and the yellow one with the fruit cannon). When I heard that Crash Bandicoot gets to pilot a "giant" mech, I was overjoyed, but that changed a little bit when I saw just how "gigantic" the mech really was. I was hoping I would be like the size of those big mechs from "Gundam Wing" or something, but either way, the mech is really cool. Also that thing with Crunch the Super-Bandicoot merging with the Elementals to become more powerful was really cool. I would of given this game 3 and a half stars if I could(mostly because of the loading time), but instead I gave it 4 stars since it's too good to be given a 3. Plus, I love Crash too much to put him down like that.

Before I purchased my Playstation 2, I absoulutley LOVED the Crash Bandicoot serires on the origianl Playstation. Then again, my favorite types of games are mainly Platformers. But after buying this title, all I have to say is that the magic of these games will never die...just improve!
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex truly is just like every other Crash game. It's worlds are colorful, it's enemys are classic, and the variety of each new game increases with new abilitys and vehicles. I felt like I was 9 again, (I'm 13,) when I played this game, feeling like everything was just phonomenal!
The only set-back for this classic sequel is the loading screens. Sure, they're cute and make you chuckle the first couple of times, but it just gets aggrivating to watch this screen for a minute and a half every tome you enter and leave a level.
But dispite this annoying "addition," the same creative and adventourous spark that captivated PS1 gamers in the 90's, including myself, still remains on this Crash Title.
If Crash Bandicoot is what you like, get this game!
The same bandicoot.
The same villians.
A whole new classic!
The Bandicoot is still the best!

i like the gameplay of this game but the loading time is horrible. the loading screens are from forty to fifty seconds long each or more. it is basically the same as crash warped. if you want a crash game, get crash 5 warped for the playstation. it is just as good. without the loading screens.
