I have the patience to spend hours making items in Star Ocean, but I don't have the patience to deal with this game. I got bored so quickly that I eventually just stopped playing and sold it back. There were no mini-games to distract you from the boring story line, and there just wasn't much to do other than go straight through. I need a little diversity in the RPGS that I play, and this one just didn't have it. I am also not a fan of games where you have to angle the screen just right to be able to trigger events or to get items. Some of the features were interesting, such as the different tools each character used, but I just couldn't stay interested in this game.
Oh, the horror...

Okay, so maybe this game is PRETTY good, but it lacked a lot of the appeal from Wild Arms 1. For instance, the opening animation sequence is a lot less artistic and the character designs are a bit less midevilish than the first version. I really loved that opening anime sequence too... Another thing: I wish they would've kept the original characters! Rudy Roughnight, Jack Van Burace, and that one girl with the really long name are the ones that define Wild Arms. This game is more of a separate story than a sequel, though most would probably consider it better fun. The graphics are amazing, but only for the backgrounds. So far, I have only seen two games that have succesfully animated their characters: Zelda (not to be biased) and Jade Cocoon. All the other games have these emotionless little sprites that look like bugs. Visually, the only thing amazing about Wild Arms 2 is the backgrounds and the characters attacks. As for play value, I generally thought it was okay. Puzzle games are just not my thing, but I can take a little bit of that. Don't get me wrong, this game is mainly RPG, but it has more puzzles then the first version. The story was good, and the gameplay wasn't too long or short...for me... Now that I've said all the important stuff, I'll be raving about the character designs (this is because I'm a sort of junior character designer) They pretty much stunk. The anime part was VERY bad. I disapprove of small eyed, large footed animation. I mean, Ashley just wasn't as cool as Rudy, and his hair doo was way drab. Lylka was cute enough, but that umbrella thing? Strikes me as kinda lame. She doesn't seem like the kind of person who'd be a sorceress. Brad was fairly cool. I liked his story, and his character design was good. Not terribly cool, but good. **remembering how cool Jack looked** The supporting characters weren't much better, with one exception: Kanon. GREAT idea. Butt kickin girls are always good, but Kanon manages to be original at the same time. I mean, a bounty hunter who can take out her foes in one hit? That's cool. But WHY OH WHY did they give her blue hair? Ashley and that one other girl had blue hair. Besides, it just doesn't fit her personality. This may sound stupid, but she would've been way better with black hair. As you can see, I'm just SLIGHTLY obsessed with character design. Oh well. They DID have a lot of characters to work with.
An average game, at best

Being a fan of the first Wild ARMs, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel. Sadly, though, it is not a true sequel, as I and many others had hoped, but it is a good game all in all. The graphics are great, the story is..ok, I guess, if you can figure out what's going on half the time, but the translation is horrible. A good game, but it fell short of my expectations.
good, but not perfect

While it delivered many, many puzzles, this RPG took a sharp turn at the second disc. The characters turn into something more like philosophers. The combat is extremely easy, and worth too much money. If you remember the first Wild Arms (which, in my opinion, is far better) the weakest enemy "Baloon" used to be worth 2 gella. Now, it is worth 32 gella. So most of the time I was walking around, defeating normal monsters for as much as 48,000 gella. By the way, I also had $249,321 with no place to spend it. Money is a huge problem. The characters were cool, and the reason I liked this game was its plot in the first disc, but that was all there was pretty much
Pretty Lame considering the Competition

This game, considering the competition, is not that great. First, it doesn't prove to be as fun and original as the first Wild ARMs; this is just re-hash of an uninventive battle system. What sucks is that the acutal battles are lame because you only have a few options: attack, skills, and summons(which can only be accessed by few people and can only be done with Tim in your party!). I admit, when I bought this I tought that it was great, but soon the battles got repetitive and the story got bland. I grew tired of finding new and pointless Guardians who could only be accessed with Tim. Normally I finish all of my games, but I probably won't comlpete this one. I knew I should've saved for Legend of Mana or Legend of Dragoon, but still this is okay if you have already beaten Vagrant Story or Front Mission 3. Oh well...
Not bad but certainly isn't very good.

I played WA3 before this one and I enjoyed that so much that I had to go back and play the first two. While I could never seem to find the first one, I managed to find this one. While I liked WA3 a lot, this one wasn't as good I thought. True the gameplay elements are top-notch and all, but where it gets annoying are the themes outside the gameplay.
First of all, these characters are actually nicely developed. Something that I didn't very much expect from this game. They were brilliantly done. However, the dialogue was a little annoying at times. There was one NPC character that always started every sentence off with "In my humble opinion" and that got very annoying at the beginning of the game because I ran into him a lot. The dialogue was also weak and didn't get the storyline across fast enough.
The graphics aren't very good for the PSX. This was made in 2000 and we were looking at games like FFIX and LOD then and these graphcis couldn't compare. They're fuzzy. While they aren't that bad, I wasn't quite used to that.
The other major gripe (and the reason I gave it three stars) is the music. The music is by far some of the worst I've heard in an RPG. Seems kind of stupid to dislike the music huh? In an RPG you have to realize that you may need to endure some music for hours. The music in this was enough to make my ears explode!
The other reason I gave this three stars is because the most important element to me was a little shabby. That's storyline. There was a story in this game but it was slow and boring to get to. The story paced so slowly and I couldn't take it!
I was a little disappointed in this game but it really wasn't all that bad. But the music and storyline...something I have to deal with throughout the entire game, were overall weak. So to be truthful this game isn't the most worthwhile in the bunch but for any RPGer its very promising because of gameplay this game is easily a good one to choose.
The good
+Great gameplay
+Good battle system
+Character development
+Not a bad story although...
The bad
-Story moves very slowly
-Music is annoying!
-The graphics aren't the best.
Overall the game is a nice treat for an RPGer but its only worth for me to play through once.
It's allright

I bought this game because it is an RPG. Me,an RPG freak. It's a pretty good game, allthough I don't like anime. I think that there being anime-like graphics is a little annoying. The puzzels are challenging. Characters don't have as much depth as some of the Squaresoft games but,if you don't care about depth in a story this game will be allright. Gameplay is aight. Battling isn't much fun though.
fun at first, but the gameplay fades

WA2 is the funnest thing in the world at first, but the gameplay gradually fades. First of all, compared to games like FF8 the graphics are like Pong, I like the battle system a lot though. See, instead of having a limited amount of MP, as you attack, guard etc. and enemies attack you, your FP (no idea what this stands for) once you get a certain amount, you can cast spells and perform special abilites. Your characters also have 4 special abilites which can be used when your FP reaches a certain "level" This isn't another tactic, when your FP just reaches a certain number, one of the red things will light up to show that a level has been gained. There are three main characters must play solo quests (which the order is determained by you) before they meet up. I think Brad has the best story. Before I forget, there are many puzzles in the game, which will please or displease some gamers. The music and sound effects are pretty good. Overall, this isn't huge, only two discs, but it's worth a rent if you were a fan of the original or not.
This game is okay.

I picked this game up becuase I liked the first one A lot. I hoped that this game would live up to it's predecessor, but it did not. Almost nothing has changed with this game from the first one. There are only Two major changes. The first is with the way you find new dungeons. You have to use a search ability to be able to find them. I did find that a bit interesting. The other thing is that as you gain levels you get points you can put towards special skills, Such as one that increases your Hit points a bit more than usual each level you go up. While this is nice it doesn't help much that the battles are all very boring to fight. I swear I don't remember battles in the original being this boring. Also in order to do any special skills you use force points instead of magic points. To make boss battles a bit more interesting you can hit various parts of there bodies, which will usually prevent them from doing certain attacks. You also get more experience when the battle is over, but you can easily beat all of the bosses in the game without even having to bother with this. I did it on most of them, but later on there just didn't see to be any point to it. It just seemed to make the battles last longer. And I did not want that. Despite the boring battle system, the story is fairly interesting. But I felt the characters were not developed enough. The character dialogue really didn't seem to fit too well. Each charcter also like on the first one, have different abilities you must use to get through certain puzzles.Though, I really felt there were way too many puzzles in the game. I would say the best thing about this game is the music. A lot of it I found to be pretty good. This game has no connection to the first one in any way, except the fact that there is still something with the name ARMS in it. If you have not played the first one yet, you may appreciate it a bit more than I did. Just try not to get your expectations to high.
