I loved MediEvil. It was an original concept with alot of funbonuses. MediEvil II was NOT worth the $.
Daniel Fortesque isawakened for a second time by a wacky doctor so that he can save the Victorian-era world from an evil industrialist who has found the spell pages from the original game. Along the way Dan finds Kyia, a long dead Egyptian cortesan. Together, these three fight evil.
There were several problems with the new game. One is Dan's character. Although he's basically the same, there aren't the endearing little things about him we came to love in the first game.
Second is the bad guy, who is rarely interactive with Dan and never developed very well. Design-wise, you can return to levels, but can't replenish life as you could in game 1. This becomes annoying toward the end when the levels become increasingly difficult. Of course, all that difficulty becomes anti-climactic at the end when the final "bad guy" is easy to defeat.
The worst thing about the whole experience, though, is the camera angle. It's constantly switching randomly, making jumps sometimes nearly impossible. And there are several places where the camera-angle switch will make you stuck irreperably.
All-in-all, I was not happy with the quality. Developers and game-designers really have to learn to work out the bugs of a game before they release it, even if it's a guarenteed seller like this one. I won't buy Medievil 3, that's for sure.

Sir Daniel Fortesque is back, after 500 years of peaceful slumber. The game plays much like the first one, with some cool new moves such as the dan-hand where you take your skull off and place it in you hand and use it to see around corners, down holes and over ledges. The puzzles seem harder this time around, but not too hard where you get frustrated, and the overall feel of the game is very in tune to the more contemporary setting. If you played the first one and enjoyed it, or are a die hard Sir Dan Fan, this game does not disappoint. Long Live Sir Dan!

I am probably the biggest MediEvil fan out there. The game has so many things going for it. It is funny, action-packed, and scary with beautiful graphics and music! It is a perfect game because it is fun. You can get lost in it for hours. Now maybe I'm biased because I'm an autumn baby, so the October/Halloween feeling is a big reason I love it...but any way you look at it, it's a solid game.
When I found out they were making a MediEvil 2, I practically strangled my poor little brother in excitement. I ran out and bought it the first day it came out. Unfortunetly, to put it simply, it's not as good as it's predescessor. Frankly, the sequel could have far surpassed the original with all of it's new ideas...but, what makes it weaker is the fact that they decided to axe out a lot of what made the first one so great! So, without me rambling on in this review, I'm just going to simply seperate it into the good and the bad.
The Bad: -This time around they've decided that once the health stream is tapped...it's tapped forever. There is no way now to go back and get your health filled up. I never, ever, ever cheat! This is the first time i did. Basically, you have no choice if you want to beat the game. Only use it to refill health though.
-They've also nixed the cinematics. The ones they have, they made them using the game graphics. I sorely missed the old ones from the first. We only get one in the beginning and end. The first one is good...the last one leaves us hanging. It didn't tie up any ends and it didn't make any sense(maybe it'll be explained in 3....Here's hoping! )
-The only problem with 1 was that it was too short. The ONLY one. It had 22 levels. ......And for some reason, Medievil 2 only recieved 15.
-The futuristic space ship in this one was never explained. This time around, we're in London in 1886 and there are more advancements in technology since the medieval days. But this is above and beyond even the time machines. (By the way, for 3, let's not get any more futuristic).
-Dankenstein was an awesome idea! But it fell flat. It didn't feel like you were a frankenstein creation. The boxing game came from NOWHERE!
-A lot of times before or after a level, music will be cued and then abruptly stop. It seems like a glitch in the game that makes you wonder if you're missing something. Cinematics anyone?
-I wish all the levels were like Kensington, Wolfrum Hall, White Chapel, and the last.
The Good: -I'm running out of space, so i'll try and sum this up quickly. Overall, there are a ton of good points. Dan-hand, the mummified love interest, the professor, winston, the spiv, double weapons, new enemies & difficulty, and new options were great additions! As were some of the finest levels. Unfortunetly, the bad always seems to outweigh the good in all people's minds. So, to sum it up, MediEvil II is a strong game. What makes it weak is its lack of old features. It almost feels like the team behind the game made it as just an extent off of the old one instead of making a completely new game w/some old ideas. I know I'm leaving something out, but I assure to anyone, the game is awesome, and I truly hope Sir Dan will be around for a long time.

1998 saw the release of Medievil on the Playstation. It was a fantastic game and top of the platform genre, rivalled only by Crash Bandicoot and possibly Wild 9. It was set in Medievil times, obviously, and, although a bit easy, was value for money as it is an enjoyable game from start to finish. The only glitches are the already mentioned lifespan of the game and a few camera angles.
Fast-forward two years and the sequel is somewhat dissapointing. Gone are the atmospheric, 'MEDIEVIL' levels such as 'The Sleeping Village', 'The Pirate Ship', the time zone one and the one in the castle. Instead we have a museum, an observitory and Kew Gardens. These levels were nowhere near as good as the ones in the previous game, for they had a lot more atmosphere and had a more Medievil style about them. There were still a few glimpses of the levels from the first game, Kensington (The Sleeping Village perhaps?), Cathedral Spires and Wulfrum Hall are the highlights of the game.
Apart from the above, there are no major differences. The camera angles are just as good, but can be just as bad. The control of the character is exactly the same and there is little change in the graphics. The major letdown is the length. After the challenge of the first game, this was even easier to complete. If you have the choice of buying a top class platformer then I strongly recomend Medievil 1 or Crash 3 though these can be a little easy. If your looking for a challenging platformer then buy Wild 9.
I know I've slated the game quite badly in this review, but it is still a lot better than some games I've played. A 'b-grade' platformer verging on the edge of 'A'. A few more levels and this is one of the best games ever but after the superb original, this is a little dissapointing.

Welcome to 18th century England where Lord Palethorn has found part of an ancient book of sorcery (which should look kinda familiar) and basically manages to repopulate the world with zombies and other critters as he does the "go off and rule the world" thing.
Sir Dan wakes up in a museum with only his own detachable arm as a weapon (to start off with, he finds a sword PDQ) and goes off to fight evil, finding some interesting characters, weapons and puzzles along the way!
This game has some cool elements, like being to pop your head off, stick it on a crawling hand, and basically run around like "Thing" from the Adam's Family. It also has a neat storyline and, of course, hacking and slashing is always a blast...
The play control needed a little help, however.
The camera angles kinda drive you nuts, and life is hard to come by! Some of the bosses are a little hard to kill, and when you go to the next level, your little, battered life-meter is really frustrating as you get wasted by EVERYTHING. Sometimes it's best to make sure you save between levels... them beat the level your on again with fewer accidents.
Also, if you make too many misjumps (which is easy to do), every one costs you an entire bar of life... the green smoke only provides about 200 points of recovery... then it goes bye-bye. If you make a lot of mistakes in a certain area, you'll pay for it later!
Cool game, had a lot of fun with it, looking forward to Midieval III should they decide to make one(Sir Dan in the future with a light-saber or something might be kinda cool!), I just hope they make the camera angles friendlier!

I loved the original Medievil, so I was really looking forward to the sequel. The one star I gave it was for the Danhand ability. Other than that I found it VERY frustrating. Jumping in this game was just miserable. The jumps on this one had to be lined up to be EXACTLY PERFECT, and Dan doesn't jump as well on the trampolines as he did on the cargo nets in the first game. Also the camera angles constantly change on you, which may have been the most annoying thing. Once you finish a level, you can go back, BUT the life fountain is gone. So if you need to build up life, forget it! Of course, you don't start out with Danhand, so to go back and use it you have to finish the level again without any fountain of rejuvenation. You can use the cheat menu to get life, but it stinks that they would make you resort to that to replenish yourself. There should ALWAYS be a legitimate way to do that in a game. They decided to make the bosses harder as well, which got frustrating especially in light of the rejuvenation situation. The only time I really enjoyed it was with the cheats on, as that was the only way it felt a bit more like playing. I think this game had tons of potential (especially the freashow and the costume changes and the girlfriend), but instead of trying to make it even more fun than the original, they just tried to make it harder. I liked being able to just play with the first one without getting stuck in the levels. That kind of gameplay really helps you appreciate the humor in the game. Also, they only did the opening and closing cut scenes in full animation. The others were all done in game graphics, whereas the original treated you to full animation several times when you entered new areas. Pretty cheap.

My wife and I really enjoyed the first game and Medievil II is a great sequel. Unlike Croc II, which changed even the basic movements of the character, MII gives you enough familiar touchstones to feel like you can jump into the game feet first. The ambitious settings continue to integrate well with the atmospheric music on each level (how many people found the eerie desolation of the Naval Observatory as creepy as I did?). The best feature of these games is how fully absorbing each level is because they are all (well, most)so fully rendered; to the extent a videogame can do it, you feel like you are really "there". There are too many nice touches to list: one in particular is how the rain and wind sound increase as you progress up Cathedral Spires and how if you look up when on the roof, you see the direction of the falling rain actually shifts as if windblown. Hats off to the creative team. Criticisms are limited: although I too was frustrated at first by the inability to return and get fountains, you get used to it; as with the first game, you sort of stumble into the last level, without realizing you are near the end of the game; Palethorn, while droll, was a bit of a let down at the end; the game could use a beginner and expert level to vary things when you want to re-play it; the ending of MI was actually very touching and gave a great sense of satisfaction whereas I didn't get that from either ending for MII; the choice of Victorian London was bravely done, but I miss old Gallowmere; the bosses and monsters were nice but it might be good to try some new powers for them as some were more variations on each other than new creatures. Other nice touches while there's space: the Danhead, which finally made you feel like all those severed hands were around for a reason; the Spiv (my boy!); the way the background tunes stick in your mind like peanut butter so that you hum them the rest of the day; the humor that was still there on many levels. Guys: keep makin' em and we'll keep buyin'. For fun, playability and creativeness, M and MII are the best Playstation games I've seen yet.

I just got this game, and have already beaten the first MediEvil and loved it. This one is tougher and a bit harder to beat, and way more challenging but still a lot of fun. Sir Dan has some great new moves including the Dan Hand, and some cool additional weapons in his arsenal.

I will only say this; it is bizarre for a mom to stay in her son's room for 4 hours watching a video game. This game is great. I will watch my son play this game for the graphics, the baroque implications, and because it is the funniest thing to see a hand with a head on it get thrown out the window by a terribly evil little girl, all in fun, laugh sounds included.
For anyone who loves bathroom humor, one scene uses an old man who farts every 10 seconds, and no one gets hurt.
It is tongue in cheek with the challenge to make a player think as to how do I get out of this?
Great game.
I love when my child uses his brain on a rainy day and everyone watching is entertained. Great plus, when the head has to run around the game, he lifts his pinky and thumb every other step so high that I ask myself,"who did this with his own hand to make it so real and so funny?"
This game is wonderfully entertaining for any age, because one must really think to get out of certain predicaments, and because the graphics are like the best of any comic book. Someone must have really been in a good mood when they made this one.
